This is for tailgate questions and arrangements for 2024.
For those new, many TKP people like to tailgate in lot 18, which is the Duckpond lot. We park near the guardrail closest to the pond. It's pretty much an open invite.

I and Mrs. Egbert along with my daughter and some of her friends will be there on Saturday for the Rutgers game.
We'll be there! Dannycoaleismyspiritanimal's birthday is this week, so I'm bringing cheesecake because it's his favorite.
I really thought you were gonna get through that table
It was damn good to see y'all. Hopefully your group can make it down for another game or two.
Thank you. It was good to see everyone.
I do know that right now, the whole crew expects to be back for the GT game.
Do we need to bring our own tables?
That one looks pretty sturdy. Not sure I will be able to make the trek over. Mom is up for the walk from Chicken Hill to the stadium, but don't think she wants that extra walk.
I'm coming down for my 1st game in over 10 years. Driving down from the Cape with a good friend & Hokie Dad on Wednesday, will stop in Harrisonburg to have dinner with my sister, then on to Blacksburg that night. Staying @ the Hilton Garden Inn for 2 nights, then 8 of us 1978-78 grads have a Vrbo rental for Friday & Saturday night on Forest Hill Drive in Bburg. We supposedly can walk to downtown from there? Would love to stop by your tailgate if we can make it.
Also, playing 36 at the VT Pete Dye course on Thursday. What places would anybody recommend for dinner & lunches on Thursday & Friday?
Meeting my college roommate for the game with no current plans for where to tailgate. Hopefully will get to put faces to usernames Saturday.
Where can you park nearby if you don't buy a pass?
In recent years you could go to the golf course and just pay the greens fee to park there on gameday. That's an easy walk to Lot 18.
The initial vault looked good, and I see full rotation on the twist, but failing to stick the landing is the icing on the cake. One leg.
Note - Lot 18 was the grassy strip between Smithfield Road and Stroubles Creek (connects into the Duck Pond). It's not the "Duck Pond Drive Lot" that is featured in that graphic above.. that is Lot 16 aka The Cage.
I wonder how much a lot 1 or 2 pass goes for, or is that only for mega donors.
I was amazed that as a silver hokie I got in lot 5.
I dated a Platinum Hokie's daughter freshman year and suffice to say, their tailgates in the South Endzone lot were elaborate. They would theme their full spread around the team being played.
Played UNC - Had an enormous amount of the best BBQ from North Carolina ordered and same day delivered.
Played Miami - Fly up fresh stone crabs from Miami.
Etc.
We used to do thay at at our house, but we stopped after making a red velvet tiger penis cake led to being crushed by Clemson. We tempted the gods!
IDK- but one year we bought tickets for the game from a guy parked there in middle of lot 1.
When we planned how to get them from him(this was way prior to e-ticketing), he described his luxury SUV and spot number and said "I'll leave them in the back cargo area(it's unlocked)- just open it and grab em. I'll be at breakfast with Frank".
how were the seats?
Good- well as best as I remember though the alcoholic haze and the fog of 15-20 year' time passing. LOL
A friend of my dad's from the service (now deceased), when his health started failing, occasionally gave us a few tickets (sometimes box seats) and once or twice a parking pass (Lot 1). He had been a gold hokie donor since the 1980's. We had stopped by their tailgate in that same spot in the late 80's when I was student. I had always assumed those passes were part of what you got with the required "donation" for the box seats. He did not have breakfast with Frank that I know of...
Once a buddy of mine got some tickets and a parking pass to a game from his boss. I knew the boss was a donor but I didn't really know that they were a donor until I looked at the pass and it said Lot 1. So we made the trip to Blacksburg and pulled into Lot 1 to park. Security looked at my tag, and then look at my old Impala we were driving, shrugged and waved us through. It was clear from the look he gave me that, while I had the pass and was allowed to park, I clearly didn't belong there!
Yeah-same feeling when we were invited by another friend to a tailgate in lot 1 maybe three spaces in from Beamer Way and against the fence around Hokie Village. Much prefer Lot 18 and the ambiance there.
Now if they only had a moving sidewalk to get to the stadium......(sucks getting older- I can hang out and stay up better than most and drink well but long walks like that do take me a bit including two minute rest stops on benches along the way...)
I just had someone offer me 275 for my Lot 5 Pass for this weekend so can't even imagine what Lot 1 goes for on secondary market.
Let me know if they offer you again that would pay for the entire season parking pass.
At that price I sold. Asked if they wanted my UVA one for 750? Just pay for the one the one game I get to come up for this year entirely right there.
Angriest my parents ever got at me. I had four tickets for the 2005 #5 Miami game at the 40 yard line. They had driven in from Rhode Island for their first big time football game. I got offered $800 each for my tickets and I turned it down so they could see the game in person. That would have been enough to have covered all four of my season tickets plus. They said, if they had know that they would have gladly watched from the house.
In hindsight, after we stunk up the place, I should have taken the money.
Yup. I did not look closely. I have removed it. thanks.
Anyone know if the P-RV lot by 18 is RV only or cars and RV's?
It is supposed to be RV only. That having been said, a friend camped there without a separate car and we were able to utilize that for $50.
My friend and I should be somewhere in lot 18 playing drinking backgammon- anyone welcome to stop by for game or two
I thought I was the King? Which brings me to my point, I may be there this weekend as well.
The king was in reference to the lot tailgating, no individual.
Lol I was kidding anyway we all know you are the king! But I hope to see you there!
King Egbert of Wessex!
need a lol emoji.
Nice! We will have kings and a wedding officiant.
Sorry. Won't be there after all.
ugh.
Tease
As we get older and our bodies start changing... Anyway I'm fine but spend 6 hours in the ER. Friday nights get crazy at this age.
I won't be visiting this weekend. But I may come by for the Thursday night game. Maybe a different one. But I'm planning to swing by at some point this year.
I'll bring my sign again.
I'll hold you to that! We really should have "Hi my name is" stickers with our online handle.
I still laugh thinking who is this dude holding a sign.
Hell yeah! You rolling up in your motorcycle again this year Egbert?
Nope, I'll have Mrs. Egbert and both my daughters and some tailgating gear to drop off.
I rode my bike to VT on Tuesday morning for an appointment at 8 AM. Came down from Daleville on Blacksburg Rd. Ice froze on my mirrors just east of town. I wasn't quite ready for that level of cold yet. My fingers and toes were numb.
Is somebody bringing a grill on Saturday?
Got a confirmation of a grill offline.
Confirmed the whole crew is making it to the GT game. Looks like we'll bring a fairly complete setup to 18.
Kickoff is noon but some of the crew will not be gong into the game. We can refire the kitchen to postgate.
Apparently, none of my people are tailgating. I'll probably wander by and say hi on Thursday.
