Also saw that May 7th is the last day of classes for Students with Reading Day (no classes or exams) on the 8th. Pretty solid timing by the organizers of the show and VT Administration.

I previously told yall to keep May 7 and 14 open, found out the date was the 7th but basically got scolded by my sawce for leaking even the two dates with the hint of a suggestion for Metallica coming to play Lane -- because my sawce got scolded for "the date even being out there". So some ppl read TKP which is good but kinda sucks i couldnt break this/leak this fr fr to all of yous without jeopardizing jobs

it's not so bad -- it's a long story but i actually heard about the potential dates with varying level of certainty from two unconnected sawces, which is when i dropped the tidbit here. But the first one (on the university side) pressed me on it and told me to shut up lmao

one must be on here (or maybe his boss at the university at least) and the other is unconnected to VT but works on the events/entertainment booking side

Meh, not really the same without Dimebag and Vinnie Paul, not to mention Phil's issues over the years. Glad I got the catch them in the heyday back in 97 at Hampton arena.

I saw them with Lamb of God last year (I was really there for LoG) but the Pantera fans seemed to enjoy it. Had a nice tribute to their past members at the beginning of their set.

It is going to be absolutely epic. With the "Snake Pit" and the field being full, I would imagine that this is going to be pushing 80-90k people. I joined the fan club and have reminders on my calendar for Monday - LET'S GO!

I know I am old but I remember seeing Charlie Daniels band and Molly Hatchet at Cassell Coliseum and it was epic so I cannot even imagine what it would be like with 10x as many people. Hopefully someone is making arrangements to record and buy the rights to be able to play a video of the live performance of Enter Sandman on the jumbotron during the team entrance in every 2025 and beyond home game.
Also, some co-branded swag would be awesome.

Whit Babcock said Metallica discussed playing "Enter Sandman" before a game this year. It was too much of a production for just one song, though. Decided they wanted to play a whole concert in Blacksburg. #Hokies— Andy Bitter (@AndyBitterVT) September 21, 2024

Anyone else really annoyed that Whit, or whomever from VT that was in charge of the agreement with Metallica, failed to get any substantial advantage to getting tickets to the concert by having a relationship with VT? Hokie Club members are essentially at the end of the pecking order. So general Metallica fans (or ticket resellers) who really couldn't give a shit about Lane Stadium or Blacksburg will get tickets WAYYY before people who have been passionately waiting for Metallica to come to Blacksburg.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Meh, you pay out of the ass for any premium concert now, regardless. Dave Matthews, Sprinsteen, foo fighters, metallica, taylor swift, etc. Any venue. These were always going to be purchased by bots and promoters- like all metallica shows. This is nothing new. the only top level concerts that everyday joes can log on and get tickets to are the festival ones- 12 bands in a huge field.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
ticket prices are aren't that bad for the show in Blacksburg. Issue will be resellers jacking up the price.
but the fact that Hokie Club members have any kind of pre-sale at all is a win for VT. Metallica is going to prioritize their own fan club (free to sign up too) and their marketing partner clubs for every show.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Do we know whether they have allocated certain tickets to each presale? I was thinking/hoping that maybe more snake pit tickets would be available with the Hokie Club presale.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Tickets will be available starting Monday, Sept. 23 through a series of special presale windows (below). A limited number of tickets are available within each presale so fans are encouraged to participate at their earliest eligible opportunitiy. Be sure to secure your spot early as this show is expected to sell out fast!

Got my tickets, but damn $350/piece is more than I expected (that's just to have a seat). My cousin (grad student) said his are around $140 so at least they're not completely gouging the students.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I wish I had seen that chart beforehand. I probably would have chosen different seats. Oh well. This is likely the only time in my life I'll get to see them in-person so it's worth the splurge.

I feel that. I've not listened to a lot of Metallica in ages (other than one song, of course) and I've never seen them before and never plan on seeing them again. Hell, I live in Raleigh and if Metallica played PNC here I probably wouldn't go, but it's Lane Stadium so I'm in. This is kinda like The Battle of Bristol: something I always heard "can happen" for years so when it actually happened I wanted in the door to say I was there.

Sadly at my age, I would rather have a seat and access to the bathrooms and concessions than be on the field. It is going to be what at least 2 hours before Metallica even takes the stage?
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Oh for sure. I got respect for anyone chasing field tickets to this and they have a birth year that starts with "19". My back and feet aren't "snake pit years young" anymore.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I'll be on the field and expect to have easy access to concessions and bathrooms... Not like they lock you in. Even the snake pit has two passages under the stage to get in/out.

That was the smoothest experience I've had buying tickets for a major concert in a long, long time. Having the prices set before pre-sale stopped all the dynamic pricing bullshit. It also stopped all the certified reselling bullshit that I've seen where tickets get sold at face value, and then those exact tickets pop back up for 3 times the price just a few minutes later.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
We got in, finally - lower bowl, West Stands, towards the NEZ. Was literally the only block of four tickets together left that I could find, was amazed I even found those. 🤘🏻
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Not making me feel good about trying to get four tickets together. If it happens great, if not. I might be sitting in the car in chicken hill and listening for free.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Signed up for the fan club and could access tickets, but everytime I try to add something to my cart I get an error message. Dunno. Doesn't look like there's much left...

Same. I'm getting nothing. Got the pre-sale code but when I click the fan club member to buy I get sent to Hokiesports website and presale code doesn't work.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Rumor has it they have set aside only a certain number of tickets for each group. So it might be they sold out of the fifth membership allotment. I hope so, that might be the only way I get tickets.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
There was some sort of glitch with the system. I was in towards the front of the line (in queue at 11:30am) and it kept showing tickets as legacy fan vice fifth fan. My fifth code wouldn't work. After 45 min of watching tickets disappear, I used a friends fifth code and that worked. Good news is we have tickets. Bad news is we're sitting around the 10 yd line instead of the 40 thanks to a glitchy system.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
So I can't verify that is 100% what's happening here, but yeah that is my experience with an event that has this many different waves of pre-orders. If that's what's going on then I would expect the legacy members to have a set allotment of tickets, 5th member to have their own allotment of different seats, today's citi allotment goes on sale today so that'll be a different set of seats, snake pit packages also go on sale today, Hokie Club presale will have their own allotment of different seats, etc. Then whatever is left goes on a general sale.
If you didn't see any tickets you liked yesterday it likely means that allotment had nearly sold out so you might have better luck on another pre-sale wave (Hokie Club, Spotify, Live Nation, etc).

Other than "Nothing Else Matters" and the opening to Sandman, I've never listened to a Metallica song. I was in a far different place musically in those days and didn't much care for the metal stuff. And yeah, I was at the Tull show in Cassell, so I'm old, and like others, I'm no longer built for such things as this concert, but I am extremely happy that the fans get this pay back for their now decades long love of "Enter Sandman".
Hope you all get tickets and have a fantastic show.

Aside from the amazing Master of Puppets and And Justice for All albums- 2 of the top 10 metal albums in history, some of their recent stuff is very very very good. Check it out on Spotify, etc. If you like heavy rock but not all shredding or inaudible screaming death core - latest metallica is some of the best music out there. They will play several from 72 seasons in Lane- my favorties are Lux eterna and shadows follow. Great tunes. From Hardwired- check out Atlas Rise, Now that we're dead- fantastic. They have written some great songs recently.

I've been through a bunch of genres in my long time playing and enjoying music, from classical and band music through folk, bluegrass, rock, newgrass among others, but now, it's Americana. Tyler Childers, Sturgill Simpson, Jason Isbell, Whiskey Meyers, etc. I'd rather listen to old John Prine than heavy metal I've heard or never heard.
It's such a personal preference thing and it's the old different strokes for different folks. And so on, and so on...

Nothing for me from Spotify either. A rumor I heard was that Spotify was going to give codes to those who streamed a lot of Metallica. No official sauce on that tho
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Nothing from Spotify either. I also read that's how Spotify does it. It would have been nice if somewhere in any of the official websites that had been stated. There's also a "live nation" one but I'm sure it's the same.
I've donated money in the last year, so maybe I'll get a code from Hokie Club Thursday evening or Friday morning.
There's always the possibility of getting them when the general sale goes live. I remember last year, my brother got tickets for green day during the 'citi card' pre-sale, and when the general sale went live, there were better options that were not available for 'citi card'. Same happened for a Paramore concert. All that to say, i'm still hopeful.
Lastly, I guess I can sell my golf clubs to pay for a re-sale ticket. I need new ones, anyway :-)

My recommendation, sign in early and be waiting on HokieTickets at least a half hour before the presale begins, refreshing every couple minutes until you can join the eQueue. I was able to get in the queue this morning about 20 mins before 10am and still had to wait a solid hour for my turn. I was able to get a group of 4 tickets together, but my buddy who joined the queue only 5 mins after me couldn't and the guy who got in a couple mins after that was completely hosed.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
My experiences with friends & family so far have led me to believe that the eQueue thing is random in terms of order. i.e. as long as you're in the queue before 10am, you'll get randomly shuffled in. Join after 10am, you'll be put in order behind the pre-10am crowd. That's just my anecdotal assumption since I joined on one computer at like 9:43am this morning, then on my iPad at 9:46ish, and my iPad beat my computer by almost 20 minutes in the queue.
One thing I definitely don't understand is the random smattering of "premium seats" (the diamond seats). I'd really like to know all the details about how the tickets were divied up between all the presales, how the queue really works, what the negotiations were like between Metallica and VT, etc.

Well, I know they weren't listed as opening until 10:00 am, but I purchased mine at 9:26. Well, I am not sure what happened to the prices people were listing, but my four tickets were $1,650 to get in section 110.

Speaking of which, WTF were those diamond tickets? Completely randomly placed throughout the stadium, and over twice as expensive as any seat around it

I will have to be contacting the athletic department to remove the seats for the concert! I wasn't able to get my season tickets where the seats are being removed already.

All in all I'm very disappointed in how this all turned out. As I stated before, practically ZERO benefit to being a Hokie Club member. Whit apparently only took care of the students on this one...nevermind the thousands of Hokie fans that actually grew up listening to Metallica. This was basically VT/Whit saying "Sure, use our stadium as another venue on your tour."

I was looking at the "Seek and Destroy" package and got in as a Hokie Club member. My brother in law missed in both the Fifth Membership and Spotify draws. I am not sure how many tickets were actually allocated for each lot.

If you are at all familiar with Metallica- Lars Ulrich- not Whit or anyone else on earth- calls the shots from a business perspective. Lars decides how tickets are sold, Lars decides if they will play Sandman or not that night, etc. Make no mistake. Those guys haven't waivered. James Hetfield writes the songs, and has final say on whether its a "metallica" song. Lars runs the business side and makes decisions on all matters with James. Kirk and Robert play their parts and shut up. They don't decide anything at all- they are super wealthy and are in Metallica- that's enough and that's the way it is. This is the band that put out a major album without bass guitar in the fader because Jason Newstead hadn't paid his dues. This is the band that also told Newstead he had no creative input, so he left after the bands most successful run. Whit did not make any significant "metallica" decisions for this show, I guarantee you that. And if for some ungodly reason Blacksburg is the night Sandman is not on the set list, Lars will chuckle into the camera and say "shit we didn't play sandman" and laugh.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
It is on the tour play list. But I think is last. Who knows if they change it up. But I agree that Lars and James run the show. But to be honest for both Kirk and Robert, they have been running the show well for over 30 years.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
They did play it both nights in PHX last year. But a good portion of the set list was different. They will play it- they aren't that tone deaf. Pardon the Pun

It just feeds into the arguments on other threads that VT/Whit can't make power moves that put us in the better position that we deserve.
If I knew it was going to be this bad, and Metallica as a business was as dick-headed as you say they probably were, I honestly would rather never have Metallica in Lane Stadium. And I say that as someone who started listening to them as soon as I was able to start sneaking the tapes past my parents, loves their music, and has seen them many times in concert. If you can't appreciate how much we love Enter Sandman for the entrance and what it actually means to us that they are playing in our stadium, then eff off and enjoy gouging your "real" fans at all your other tour stops.
Maybe I'm just super naive about how musicians/bands are these days...makes me wonder how the ticket sales process went for Morgan Wallen in Neyland stadium recently. Definitely not the same international appeal as Metallica, but I could argue just as passionate for his country music in TN.

Reality is, only Tech and Metallica know how many tickets were set aside for each group. I am stoked that they set some aside for the students and Hokie club members even if we wish their were more. Yeah, my ticket package price was vastly different than was posted in the graphic earlier in the thread.

Was in the queue a little after 930. Got the message that all regular presale tickets were gone as of 1009. Finally got in at 10:20 and the cheapest option was a package starting at $220!? Hopefully tomorrow will have better options, but I'm not hopeful

By the time I got through to the ticket section the cheapest package was like 1500 for 2 tickets. I said thanks but no thanks. Apparently you could line up in the queue before 10 o'clock. Which I did not know.

I have two friends whose circumstance changed and can no longer make it to the concert. They have field passes (not Snake Pit). If you are interested in them, please email vthokiey [at] Gmail. We'd prefer they go to Hokies instead of random third party ticket vendors.

The absolute most Lars Ulrich thing ever would be to not play Enter Sandman. And have his no talent dopey ass laugh about it afterwards. Most Lars thing ever.

That band is run like a mega corporation. I doubt Lars gives a fuck about the VT entrance song. If its not on the rotation for that night of the tour, they won't play it- business. "Metallica playing their most popular song " - outside of VT it is most certainly not their most popular song. In fact among many hard corps metallica fans its a punchline and cliche
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Sure, amongst dedicated Metallica fans, and the "I listened to them before they were cool" hipsters, Enter Sandman is a bit of a "sell out" song, because the Black album is when they got mainstream success. That doesn't change the fact that Sandman stayed on top of the charts longer than any other Metallica song, hence their most popular song.
Dumb anecdote from my high school days: a good friend of mine was in a rock band that would play house parties. When the Black album got popular, they got requests for Sandman all the time. So my friend Chuck, the guitar player, would play the opening riff twice while the drummer started with the hi hat, then suddenly stop and lean over to the singers mic and say, "No, we don't know that one." Thought it was hilarious at the time, I guess we were hipsters, too.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Music is subjective of course, and I am aware sandman has the most all time plays on spotify- yes. But its not anywhere near their slam dunk "most popular" song, IMO and I think if you asked a broad cross section of Metallica fans too.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Yeah, this is a meaningless distinction to me. I don't disagree that it isn't the most popular song to Metallica fans, it's not even my favorite song of theirs. But I was talking about the public at large, and I do think that if you asked most basics to name 1 Metallica song, that one would be most-picked thanks in no small part to VTFB. And in any case whether it's their most popular song or not, it's still good business for them to play it in Lane motherfucking Stadium.

To your point:
My family and I were traveling in Houston a couple weeks ago and ducked in to a local market for lunch. There was an elderly gentleman working the deli. When he saw my tshirt (with a VT on it, of course) he says "Looky here, a Hokie". His next words? "Sandman's in the house!", while he offered me a fist bump. Have to admit it surprised me.

Reminds me of the Joe Satriani concert freshman year. Some dude near the front yells, "Freebird, you asshole!" Satriani starts the opening riff, flips the guy the bird, and goes on to his next song.

You got lots of hot takes and many good ones. But if you think for one second they aren't going to play Enter Sandman in Lane you are out of your mind.

It's worth noting that Metallica's M72 World Tour features a "no repeat weekend" policy, which means they change up their setlist each night. This means you might not see all of these songs at a single show, but you're likely to hear a mix of classics and newer material.

We got a UPS shipment notification that I think is supposed to be delivered by next Tues (4/29), but we haven't ordered anything recently. So we think that is probably the parking pass.
EDIT: Wasn't the parking pass...sorry for leading people to believe it was. Wife said she read somewhere, or got a notification, that it was going to be a digital pass, which is in line with how they are doing everything else digital.

All concert parking must depart immediately following the conclusion of the concert. Virginia Tech will have normal operations on Thursday, May 8, and all parking rules and regulations will be in effect.
I anticipate it being a mess getting out of there, but I assume if you come back the next morning you will be subject to getting a parking ticket?

I've heard rumors that Metallica & the concert has been very burdensome on VT since they started preparations; that it is probably going to cost VT a lot more money than they were anticipating.
But, IMO, it's worth it. The positive press, excitement, and general goodwill with the fan base should outlast any financial repercussions.

Concert infrastructure of this scale is no joke. Metallica has so much gear and infrastructure they have two sets of it, so they can set up in one city while they play another. That's what a production this is. NFL owners and cities detest these big concerts unless they have a concrete base floor- like the Arizona Cardinals and Houston Texans- they can roll the turf out, and its not a huge deal. Lane had to be dug up and the trays replaced with gravel- huuuugggee cost . I remember DMB played Gillette stadium once when it was grass. The field was so fucked up, Kraft fast tracked field turf installation during their off week because re-sodding was so expensive. These concerts are a huge construction site that packs up and leaves their wake as soon as they can get out of town.

When I was applying to colleges the fact that Dave Matthew's Band played there was huge for lots of people. Not necessarily the band itself but such a huge act came there, the issues was it wasn't a big act when booked. It's been like 18 years since we had anything like that. Metallica come is a once in a generation thing, it shouldn't be.

I know a lot of folks here are not big fans of Techsideline, but they have a great free article written by Jeff Holland (former VT Defensive Tackle 91-95) all about the Metallica concert and how it came about.
Marching Virginian...whoever you are, we thank you for being cold and jumping!
Per Virginia Tech, the jumping began in December 2001 when the Hokies hosted No. 1 Miami. It started when one member of The Marching Virginians started jumping because it was cold. Then other members of the band started to join in, and it evolved into the legendary entrance it is today.
In a September 26, 2009, article by the Washington Post, David McKee, the director of the Marching Virginians (1986-2018), stated, "The next thing you know, the whole band is jumping up and down, and then next thing you know, the whole stadium is jumping up and down. It was one of those accidental traditions."

How is Uber/Lyft in Blacksburg these days? I'm staying in Christiansburg for the concert and wondering if either of those will work well enough for getting to/from the concert.
Obviously it will be a madhouse when it ends, but assuming I hang out at TOTS or something for a bit after, any reason I should expect to have trouble getting back to Christiansburg?

Serious question:
What was the last good single Metallica put out?
I can't think of one since I Disappear. And that could have been by anyone else. Throw Godsmack's name on there instead, and few regular radio listeners are the wiser.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I mean I thought Spit Out the Bone went pretty hard. The title track to their most recent album did as well.
Comparing Metallica to Godsmack in any capacity is certainly one of the takes of all time. If anything, late 90s/early 2000s butt rock vocals evolved out of a bunch of guys all trying to sound like James Hetfield on Load and Reload.
Whether that's a good thing or a bad thing is up for debate, I'm not going to pretend like it's high art or anything. But just going off timelines of when they became widely known, Godsmack and their ilk showed up later and were clearly influenced by Papa Het at least to my ears. While I Disappear might sound very much like a product of the time it was made in, I would have to disagree that it could've been done by anyone else. At least, that anyone else could've done it half as well.

Personally, I like both Lux Æterna and Hardwired from their last couple albums. They don't get the radio play they used to just because metal isn't 'in' anymore, but those songs fit nicely with their usual rotation.

My only thought on a clear miss is they should have arranged for the concert to be a live broadcast, even if Metallica got all the revenue from it. An opportunity to get Virginia Tech in the news and add a buzz. Should also have set up as many official visits for sports to link in for concert.

A couple hundred people are involved in the Metallica production crew, with the stage being transported in on 77 tractor trailers. By Monday, everything should be operational for the show. Virginia Tech will flip things around starting a week from now, re-sodding the field (at... https://t.co/0rCuuNpfrZ— Andy Bitter (@AndyBitterVT) May 2, 2025
Live Nation is footing the bill to replace the field after the concert, and it will be in place for graduation.

Finally had time to do a little research on this before the show. I did not know that Metallica does a lot of neat stuff for the locations on their tour: https://www.metallica.com/tour/2025-05-07-blacksburg-virginia.html. That's the Blacksburg link. They're listing events, pop up shops, volunteer opportunities, blood drives, and local recommendations of what to do while you're in town.

Yes - Got my info yesterday. Basically it said get to the early check-in, and after that head to your designated package spot where you will get your merch. I did find out that those that got a package with the Yeti cup are getting a yellow cup, and not the same black cup that will be sold throughout the stadium.

In typical VT shit show fashion... I ordered and paid for 3 parking passes. Of course these fucktards send me one QR code with no instructions or no other passes sent. I've been on hold for 30 mins with the ticket office. Anyone else get multiple parking passes correctly?
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I see where my parking pass says I have to leave the lot by 11:45pm. So, if I have a bit too much fun at the show and take an Uber back to the hotel what should I expect the next morning? Ticket, car towed or is this more of a scare tactic?

Biggest non-football event in lane (ever?), 20 years in the making, one of the most notorious rock bands of all time...here have our old jerseys...seems like we could have done better

Was thinking when I saw that on the screen that it be cool to find it as a poster or on a shirt. Not looking like I'll be adding that to my collection.

That would be Zack Wylde, and yes he's ripped. Dude did the usual rock n roll lifestyle, then realized ~10 years ago he was driving himself into an early grave. Flipped the lifestyle, he's now a gym freak, and his post concert meal is a bowl of 2 dozen scrambled eggs.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I watched my brother in law crush almost 2 dozen deviled eggs (2 dozen full eggs) i think about 3 halves were eaten and he ate the rest, it was something from a 6'3" 160lbs guy

My favorite Zakk Wylde story is when he went into the studio to record his lines for the episode of Aqua Teen Hunger Force and it was like 9 or 10 in the morning and he brought his own Heineken. Being the super nice guy he is, he offered the studio engineer some. The studio engineer declined....because it was 9am.

Well damn, jealous I didn't go now. By all accounts sounds like it was absolutely epic. Really shows the potential for Lane to be a multi-purpose venue for big concerts. The crowd and light show looked sick. Lane and the VT fan base and this region can absolutely pack the house and rock. VT athletics just needs to give us something to believe in IMO.

Doubtful. They had to take all the sod trays out of the stadium, which is not something you can do frequently, as the grass roots grow between the trays while they're down. Don't see them pulling out the trays too often, it's a large logistical undertaking.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Why is this an issue? Many stadiums replace their grass 2 or 3 times a season. Heck, the dolphins replace theirs like 10 times a year with the play in Hard Rock. If they do big events in the spring there is more than enough time to get the stadium re-sodded and ready for late August football.

Because doing anything at a remotely fast pace at VT is like moving mountains. Just like it's a cost/logistics/whatever impossibility to get LED lights in Lane, and Metallica's stage crew popped up the most impressive light show ever in a matter of days.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Nailed it. Time, cost, quality. You can only have 2 of 3. VT usually always picks the cheap route but results are typically not quality and take a long time. So one of three at best.
Maybe after Fuente we should have changed our slogan from Hard Smart Tough to Cheap Bad Slow /s

The M72 tour consists of 82 shows. Even if we have 7 home games a year, that's 14 years of home football games in one summer. And Metallica will likely sell out every show they do all over the country. VT isn't a national brand in most show locations, nor as big of a unique experience.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Yeah the demand for last night was crazy. Not only did I see people come, tailgate and just set up a chair in a parking lot to listen without a ticket, but I was also told that they completely sold out of their VT specific merch within the first 30 minutes of the gates opening at 4.
Insane
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I can sort of attest to that. There was still VT merch available at various spots, but the one shirt I really wanted (the Hokie bird with the skeleton emerging) was totally sold out at the frantic experience entrance we went to except for the one shirt they had up on the wall, which was an adult S. My youngest (who wasn't there) got a pretty awesome present from last night. I also checked eBay this afternoon to see what was available and the same shirt is selling between $130 and $300.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I'd buy one. It's pretty awesome, but the real concert ones are reselling for ridiculous amounts, and there are a lot of copycats that I feel sure are on subpar t-shirts that I'd never wear.
Anybody know how many tickets they actually sold for that concert? I've seen estimates from 65k, but it looks like the field tickets would have added to that.

From the TSL article written by Jeff Holland: "Live Nation told Virginia Tech that the Blacksburg stop was the fastest-selling show on the tour, moving 75,000 tickets in no time"
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Yeah at the same time, VT also likely made a ton of money on top of their investment, even if you have to factor in the field replacement. Really no reason that Tech can't do a big concert like that every year. There were people there last night from all over the region. You can't tell me this event isn't going to push multiple local businesses solidly in the black that might have had thin margins over the course of the year.
Tech has the venue to host at least one big concert every year. They'd be foolish to not invest to make it happen. Its a money printing machine if you can make it work.

for all the love Bristol got, it took us about 4 hours to even get out of the Red Barn Lot. had a cop knock on my window and threaten to breathalyze me because i put the car in park and fell asleep lol

I'm imagining a fantasy where Lane has LEDs and spotlights installed, SEC logos on the field, and is getting ready to run out to Sandman against Bama in Lane with that crowd on ESPN prime time. Ah a guy can dream I guess.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
yup -- LN invested a LOT of money in this specific show as part of their tour deal w metallica. it would not have happened without LN stepping in to foot costs incurred by the challenging logistics. VT uninterested in paying $$$$$ to host the concert (rightfully so) and the band uninterested in playing for free (rightfully so).

Wow. I was there and this video still gives me chills like it's the first time I've ever heard the song. I hope they release the full concert like this - absolutely epic.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I appreciate this production quality version (granted not super high quality, but way better than all the cell phone vids). I hope they do a whole song version and put it on YouTube. Would be an instant classic for pregame tailgates, Hokie bars, etc.
And I'm sure some version of this will be on the video screen for every home game this year.

Did anyone snag one of the custom guitar picks with the date and Hokie bird on it? I'm seeing them all over Facebook and I'm sad that I was in the nosebleeds. If anyone has an extra that they don't want/need, please let me know.

I can try and find out how many a coworker from the pit got. She and her husband got some there and I know he got some at the Jersey presentation. Helps he was one of the original videographers that started the hole Metallica thing.

Late to these posts but that was an epic concert. I took my 3 older boys and they loved it. Loved the glitching out of Ecstasy of Gold into the VT and Enter Sandman.
We were down on the field and had a good spot minus the mosh pits right besides us but loved it nonetheless. My only regret is that that was the first time I've seen Metallica in concert and now I'm upset I haven't seen them more when I could have in the past.
And VT needs to get rights to that tour poster. They were out of them when I looked around. One of my boys got the last shirt they had with it on it so lucky there.

So I got them downloaded and like the cover art that was made, but I get no audio. The song time shows and it's progressing like it's playing, but nothing on audio. When I go to settings it says Audio: none. Did I miss a step? Possibly m4a format vs player issue?
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Ok. I did not realize that the m4a was Apple specific (I am team Android) and I was hoping that media players today evolved to play nearly any audio type. I will find a way to convert them. thanks!
EDIT: Found an online converter and now I have audio! Thanks for sharing.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Thanks for this. Just curious if anyone's listened through it and noticed a few glitchy moments on a few songs or whether I need to re-download and re-convert to MP3.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I listened to it, had some glitchy moments too. Was not sure if it was the converter I used. Then I realized that I used a free website converter and nothing would stop the site from planting some Trojan horse virus in the song download and I deleted the whole set of songs and everything associated with it as soon as I was five listening.

I purchased the FLAC files and was disappointed in the number of glitches. For Whom the Bell Tolls, King Nothing, and Master of Puppets were the worst offenders. Some songs seemed unaffected. Interestingly, the .m4a files posted above seemed better in some regards, but still had issues.

The ability to cut and paste in pro tools -in a quality way- has really hurt him the past 20 years. He plays like one measure of a double bass lick in the studio, and they copy/paste- true story. Live, well when you are behind the kit for a loud, iconic rock band in football stadiums, let's just say close is good enough. Metallica fans aren't there to see perfect paradiddle rudiments.

So today I learned that Metallica performed Funeral for a friend/Love lies bleeding in my hand for Elton John and Bernie Taupin at the Gershwin Awards last year. VERY COOL!

Who's going?
Signed up for the reminder and plan on going. Don't really care about Pantera and Suicidial Tendencies.
I picked up tickets last night.
Also saw that May 7th is the last day of classes for Students with Reading Day (no classes or exams) on the 8th. Pretty solid timing by the organizers of the show and VT Administration.
This guyyyyy
Glad we have 3 of these lol
Locked up the other two as this one has the image and some comments
I previously told yall to keep May 7 and 14 open, found out the date was the 7th but basically got scolded by my sawce for leaking even the two dates with the hint of a suggestion for Metallica coming to play Lane -- because my sawce got scolded for "the date even being out there". So some ppl read TKP which is good but kinda sucks i couldnt break this/leak this fr fr to all of yous without jeopardizing jobs
That must have been an awkward situation
it's not so bad -- it's a long story but i actually heard about the potential dates with varying level of certainty from two unconnected sawces, which is when i dropped the tidbit here. But the first one (on the university side) pressed me on it and told me to shut up lmao
lol i can only imagine your buddies reading what you put out
one must be on here (or maybe his boss at the university at least) and the other is unconnected to VT but works on the events/entertainment booking side
How do I apply for the job of reading VT message boards for the University? What is the job title?
Assistant to the Athletic Director
So the Assistant Athletic Director.
I assume the job title is: Chris
And rhymes with Real.
If they don't work with our staff to put together and sort of a VT highlight montage during Enter Sandman, I'll be bummed.
Even better, Pantera is coming to Lane!
Call me crazy but I'm glad we're getting Pantera as support and not Limp Bizkit
This is not crazy, this is the correct feeling
Meh, not really the same without Dimebag and Vinnie Paul, not to mention Phil's issues over the years. Glad I got the catch them in the heyday back in 97 at Hampton arena.
I saw them with Lamb of God last year (I was really there for LoG) but the Pantera fans seemed to enjoy it. Had a nice tribute to their past members at the beginning of their set.
Tickets are going to be hard to get, glad they are setting up student only ticket sections and pricing.
Interested to see how the acoustics will sound within Lane. Hopefully it will be good.
Hey, at least we'll finally have LED lights in Lane when they put up their set
At least it will be after spring ball and we will be getting hype for the upcoming season again.
Really gonna need something to boost my hype between now and next year cause the hype tank is running on E
Enter Night.
Oh my god
Already wondering what the Richter scale at the airport is going to do when Metallica plays Sandman live...
It is going to be absolutely epic. With the "Snake Pit" and the field being full, I would imagine that this is going to be pushing 80-90k people. I joined the fan club and have reminders on my calendar for Monday - LET'S GO!
Why yes, we should go.
I'm glad to see Metallica finally living up to their responsibilities as official band of Virginia Tech.
Also, some co-branded swag would be awesome.
did someone say co-branded swag?
https://www.thekeyplay.com/content/2024/august/9/virginia-tech-and-metal...
I saw the Kinks in Cassell my freshman year!
They Might Be Giants in Squires.
Elvis Costello in Burrus
Allmans and Little Feat split bill in Burruss.
George Thorogood and the Delaware Destroyers in Cassell
Jethro Tull in Cassell. I'm old.
Hard to argue with that.
A separate dedicated concert disconnected from the dumpster fire that is our football program is the correct call.
"This is Soup's raging bile duct."
Joined the fan club to hopefully get first crack at a couple of tickets. Fingers crossed!
Should've signed up for Fifth Membership. It is free on their website, signed up a few days ago and I'm about to secure tickets.
I did, but again, that has nothing to do with being a Hokie.
I was irked that citi visa holders have higher priority? Really, just random credit card people get higher priority than Hokie Club members.
Brother in law has spotify premium so we might go through his before my Hokie Club status. But we are also going to try that Fifth Membership...
Meh, you pay out of the ass for any premium concert now, regardless. Dave Matthews, Sprinsteen, foo fighters, metallica, taylor swift, etc. Any venue. These were always going to be purchased by bots and promoters- like all metallica shows. This is nothing new. the only top level concerts that everyday joes can log on and get tickets to are the festival ones- 12 bands in a huge field.
ticket prices are aren't that bad for the show in Blacksburg. Issue will be resellers jacking up the price.
but the fact that Hokie Club members have any kind of pre-sale at all is a win for VT. Metallica is going to prioritize their own fan club (free to sign up too) and their marketing partner clubs for every show.
Go Hokies
Mine was only $24.50
Stop lying
I got an email stating such- so I guess that was a lie.
Do we know whether they have allocated certain tickets to each presale? I was thinking/hoping that maybe more snake pit tickets would be available with the Hokie Club presale.
Yes, it says so on HokieTickets
Got my tickets, but damn $350/piece is more than I expected (that's just to have a seat). My cousin (grad student) said his are around $140 so at least they're not completely gouging the students.
Well that makes me rethink it a bit. My husband didn't really want to go anyway and I have some trouble justifying $350/person.
Tickets are as low as $60 for not-students. $49 for students. My crew got in at the $90 range which worked out to $106 which includes taxes and fees.
They did play PNC years ago, about 3 years after I had moved away from the apartments that were in walking distance of the Fairgrounds.
Sadly at my age, I would rather have a seat and access to the bathrooms and concessions than be on the field. It is going to be what at least 2 hours before Metallica even takes the stage?
Oh for sure. I got respect for anyone chasing field tickets to this and they have a birth year that starts with "19". My back and feet aren't "snake pit years young" anymore.
We got in, finally - lower bowl, West Stands, towards the NEZ. Was literally the only block of four tickets together left that I could find, was amazed I even found those. 🤘🏻
Not making me feel good about trying to get four tickets together. If it happens great, if not. I might be sitting in the car in chicken hill and listening for free.
Rumor has it they have set aside only a certain number of tickets for each group. So it might be they sold out of the fifth membership allotment. I hope so, that might be the only way I get tickets.
I was early afternoon when I had a chance to go looking. Wondered if that might be the case.
Anybody trying to use Spotify? My brother tried today with Citi and was not able to.
I looked through my Spotify app and couldn't find anything about the presale. Also have nothing in my email from Spotify.
Nothing for me from Spotify either. A rumor I heard was that Spotify was going to give codes to those who streamed a lot of Metallica. No official sauce on that tho
My brother in law is trying through spotify. I might have to wait for the Hokie Club spots...
We are already resigning ourselves to probably not getting tickets.
I was able to get tickets today
My recommendation, sign in early and be waiting on HokieTickets at least a half hour before the presale begins, refreshing every couple minutes until you can join the eQueue. I was able to get in the queue this morning about 20 mins before 10am and still had to wait a solid hour for my turn. I was able to get a group of 4 tickets together, but my buddy who joined the queue only 5 mins after me couldn't and the guy who got in a couple mins after that was completely hosed.
I assume you are familiar with the Infinite Improbability Drive.
Any idea how the Hokie Club presale will happen tomorrow? As others noted I tried to get tickets with other presales using a promo code and I just kept getting error messages that it wasn't valid. Do we just log in to hokiesports and get in a que? Will they issue us a promotional code?
I got a promotion code email from the Hokie Club about 5pm today.
Same. I'm staying logged in but all I'm seeing is note in red that they go on sale at 10am. Guess we just wait and see what happens.
Same, trying to get in queue now isn't working. Will try again in an hour.
Expect the queue to open around 9:30
Theoretically I just ordered my tickets. So I would NOW. just got confirmation!
In the queue. Waiting, waiting..........
I've had my browser open since yesterday afternoon and had to step out of my office for a call at 9:30. I entered the queue at 10:04. FML.
All Hokie club tickets for presale sold out by 10:09. Wtf.
Well, I know they weren't listed as opening until 10:00 am, but I purchased mine at 9:26. Well, I am not sure what happened to the prices people were listing, but my four tickets were $1,650 to get in section 110.
Speaking of which, WTF were those diamond tickets? Completely randomly placed throughout the stadium, and over twice as expensive as any seat around it
Those are the ones where season ticket holders have asked for their new seatbacks to be removed LOL
I will have to be contacting the athletic department to remove the seats for the concert! I wasn't able to get my season tickets where the seats are being removed already.
Fucking awesome.
It is on the tour play list. But I think is last. Who knows if they change it up. But I agree that Lars and James run the show. But to be honest for both Kirk and Robert, they have been running the show well for over 30 years.
They did play it both nights in PHX last year. But a good portion of the set list was different. They will play it- they aren't that tone deaf. Pardon the Pun
Agree on all counts.
It's in-line with my experience/pricepoint as a Fifth Member purchaser, at least.
Was in the queue a little after 930. Got the message that all regular presale tickets were gone as of 1009. Finally got in at 10:20 and the cheapest option was a package starting at $220!? Hopefully tomorrow will have better options, but I'm not hopeful
Figured might be my only shot. only found premium seats available at $480 per.
My package was $350 each plus fees.
Same... I'll see you in line for the one free beverage before heading into the pit
I panicked and paid out the ass. Section 108. I've missed too much work trying to coordinate this shit.
Ditto. In 108.
Once in a lifetime to hear Enter Sandman live in Lane. Will be totally insane, so had to be there.
My sister and brother in law are coming down from Massachusetts to attend. They said Metallica always does a great show. Of course the last time I saw them live they were performing with Guns N Roses and Faith No More on the big concert tour.
HH?
LOL, those were my football seats last year.
JJ 16/17
By the time I got through to the ticket section the cheapest package was like 1500 for 2 tickets. I said thanks but no thanks. Apparently you could line up in the queue before 10 o'clock. Which I did not know.
Anybody know whether we'll be able to enter the queue prior to the sale going live?
You could for all the presales
FYI, for those interested, I just purchased my Parking Pass. They officially open for sale at 10.
I wasn't able to get any tickets. Both presales were gone while I was in the queue. If anyone has an extra ticket...
I have two friends whose circumstance changed and can no longer make it to the concert. They have field passes (not Snake Pit). If you are interested in them, please email vthokiey [at] Gmail. We'd prefer they go to Hokies instead of random third party ticket vendors. They have been sold.
Check out the latest SWVA drop.
Got my hat
Those hats are badass. Have you bought from them in the past? How do their hats fit?
I have about ten of their hats. I prefer the trucker style so my size 8 melon still has two buttons snapped comfortably. They are pretty durable. Definitely good quality.
I also got one of the home plate hats they dropped last week.
Those are nice! I'd like to purchase one.
https://theswvashop.com/products/homeplate-hat
My hat came the other day. Good quality, nice fit, and looks badass.
Got mine yesterday. Glad it worked for you.
Preparations are officially underway
I really hope they are doing some decent documenting and/or timelapse of the set construction. If it is anything like the other M72 shows, it'll be quite a sight inside Lane Stadium.
The absolute most Lars Ulrich thing ever would be to not play Enter Sandman. And have his no talent dopey ass laugh about it afterwards. Most Lars thing ever.
maybe that's the only song they play. /s but seriously lol
I just hope they don't open with it. Because if they do, half the fans will clear out before the second song.
That band is run like a mega corporation. I doubt Lars gives a fuck about the VT entrance song. If its not on the rotation for that night of the tour, they won't play it- business. I will conceed that I HOPE one of their handlers should ensure its on there. Would honestly not surprise me if they didn't play it "oops we forghottt"
Are you ever not in the most miserable mood imaginable?
Not familiar with Metallica I see.
Any successful band that's as big and old as Metallica is run like a business. That's not news.
It follows that Metallica playing their most popular song in front of a stadium full of people that mostly only know that song would be good business.
Playing it last would be great business.
"Metallica playing their most popular song " - outside of VT it is most certainly not their most popular song. In fact among many hard corps metallica fans its a punchline and cliche
Music is subjective of course, and I am aware sandman has the most all time plays on spotify- yes. But its not anywhere near their slam dunk "most popular" song, IMO and I think if you asked a broad cross section of Metallica fans too.
That's absolutely hilarious. Well done.
Reminds me of the Joe Satriani concert freshman year. Some dude near the front yells, "Freebird, you asshole!" Satriani starts the opening riff, flips the guy the bird, and goes on to his next song.
If you're talking Best Song, it's absolutely "Frayed Ends of Sanity" - a pillar of my "Angry Ride" playlist.
That one is way up there for me too.
You got lots of hot takes and many good ones. But if you think for one second they aren't going to play Enter Sandman in Lane you are out of your mind.
Do I think they will play it? Of course I do. Would I be shocked if they didn't? nope.
I'd be stunned.
Are they going to miss the opportunity to see that crowd completely lose their minds?
Nope.
And I do mean by playing it.
It is on the play list for the concert tour.
It's worth noting that Metallica's M72 World Tour features a "no repeat weekend" policy, which means they change up their setlist each night. This means you might not see all of these songs at a single show, but you're likely to hear a mix of classics and newer material.
Scrolling through that twitter page, pretty crazy to see the amount of work going in to getting the field ready for the concert, then imagining the amount of work that it will require to get it back ready for football. Metallica ought to be paying VT to come play there
So.... Apparently this is happening
Got my ticket notification and got them on my phone today.
Tickets arrived last night. Now I am just waiting on the parking pass.
If anybody is looking for tickets, I find myself with 2 available. Section 113.
On Wednesday VT released information about parking for the concert: Parking impacts for Metallica concert: April 30-May 9
Rumor is that Lot 2 is closed for ticketed parking due to around 60 18-wheelers needed for all of the stage & band equipment.
I am waiting for my parking pass that I paid for.
Right, me too- are these electronic? I hope?
Direct link for the parking map for those looking - https://hokiesports.com/documents/06e57730-d742-4373-b132-6992fa588b64.pdf
EDIT: $50 for parking in the public zones
I anticipate it being a mess getting out of there, but I assume if you come back the next morning you will be subject to getting a parking ticket?
Is the BT running that evening?
The FAQ says they will be running extra routes and hours for the event.
I have one extra ticket if someone is looking. Section 129.
I have 3 extra tickets if anyone is looking for multiple. Section 106, row HH.
Anyone just get 2 back to back emails from HokieSports? First one was a few sale items related to the metalica concert and the next was a order confirmation (but I didn't order anything)
Yes, got the same thing.
From them just now:
Hey there!
Looks like we might have sent our "thank you" note a little too soon! If you didn't make a purchase with us, we sincerely apologize for the confusion.
Thanks for bearing with us, and keep rocking — even if your order isn't in yet!
I wonder if that was part of a marketing campaign...like hey I never ordered one and then maybe I do want one now lol.
Hopefully the school and athletic department are trying to maximize the revenue from this event. With our own ACCN studio and camera set up, could they live feed this into Cassell and let in students to watch?
The new long snapper needs his bag
I was more thinking to rebuild Lane after the live Enter Sandman brings the place down!
In typical VT fashion I bet they're only worried about the upfront cost, without realizing the backend revenue is going to have a huge ROI.
I mean heaven forbid we actually do anything in Lane that causes the school to actually maintain it and *shudder* maybe even modernize it a bit

Anyone get their parking passes yet?
Not yet. Haven't even seen a UPS notification... Starting to worry a little.
Me too- although aren't they an email you can print yourself? I hope so.
I didn't get one, hoping that wasn't a mistake. Just gonna stay at my sons apartment and take the BT to campus early. Hopefully we won't have issues getting out but if worse comes to worse we can always walk...
I got the email, it is a QR code getting emailed that we need to print.
Same. Just got email.
Work has been slammed and haven't thought much about the concert but now that we're less than a week out I'm
starting to get excited. What's everyone's pregame plans? I've never attended much outside of football game so was curious what others were doing. We may hang out downtown to eat/drink before we make our way to the stadium. Kind of weird being on a Wednesday. Any TKP tailgates/pregame going on?
Well, if you want to swing by the office, I can get you some lunch.
Don't tempt me...
Bought the combo pack.
I know a lot of folks here are not big fans of Techsideline, but they have a great free article written by Jeff Holland (former VT Defensive Tackle 91-95) all about the Metallica concert and how it came about.
https://virginiatech.sportswar.com/article/2025/04/30/holland-everything-you-need-to-know-metallica-playing-in-blacksburg/
Good question - I'm in the same boat.
Serious question:
What was the last good single Metallica put out?
I can't think of one since I Disappear. And that could have been by anyone else. Throw Godsmack's name on there instead, and few regular radio listeners are the wiser.
Atlas Rise, Moth into flame, Lux eterna, shadows follow- all great songs
My only thought on a clear miss is they should have arranged for the concert to be a live broadcast, even if Metallica got all the revenue from it. An opportunity to get Virginia Tech in the news and add a buzz. Should also have set up as many official visits for sports to link in for concert.
All of their shows are available to their fan club members (pay subscription) if not live, near live in 4k.
Yeah not the same impact. ESPN just broadcast Bananaball from Clemson. Got Dabo involved, had other part of football involved. Did the run down the hill from the Rock. Just feel it's an opportunity missed.
correct- point is Metallica is not going to agree to that since people pay for it.
The hardback seats ....gtfo
Oh, also, about some of those costs.....
Live Nation is footing the bill to replace the field after the concert, and it will be in place for graduation.
Too bad they couldn't have just used the Metallica stage set up for graduation. Missed opportunity.
Has anybody seen any information on the yeti cups, etc. that were part of the packages?
Yes - Got my info yesterday. Basically it said get to the early check-in, and after that head to your designated package spot where you will get your merch. I did find out that those that got a package with the Yeti cup are getting a yellow cup, and not the same black cup that will be sold throughout the stadium.
In typical VT shit show fashion... I ordered and paid for 3 parking passes. Of course these fucktards send me one QR code with no instructions or no other passes sent. I've been on hold for 30 mins with the ticket office. Anyone else get multiple parking passes correctly?
did not order, but absolutely willing to pay to take one if anyone has decided they wont be needing one of their spots.
Looking for one ticket NEZ I think sections 117-125. Email me v t b e e r at v t dot e d u
I see where my parking pass says I have to leave the lot by 11:45pm. So, if I have a bit too much fun at the show and take an Uber back to the hotel what should I expect the next morning? Ticket, car towed or is this more of a scare tactic?
Worst case, towed.
I read somewhere that all parking lots would be back in normal operations for VT staff on Thursday morning.
BT concert announcement
For anyone interested in taking the BT to and from the concert
It won't let me embed, but if anyone is able to get an extra Puis Calzada poster at Kent Square today, I would love to buy it off you. Link is here: https://x.com/Metallica/status/1919474809156567224
Those #72 jerseys are pretty dope
Got deleted not sure if related but why did we give them the old jerseys?????
Because jerseys jers the same.
Had to get rid of them somehow 😂
Lmao I thought the same thing. Hey easier than putting them on GovDeals.
Biggest non-football event in lane (ever?), 20 years in the making, one of the most notorious rock bands of all time...here have our old jerseys...seems like we could have done better
I can't imagine they care about that at all. They're nice jerseys and have their names on them. It was a fine gesture.
Valid
We were giving them #72 jerseys for the M72 tour.
Also I'm sure Nike wasn't handing over stuff to us to give to them. Heck, Nike hasn't even thought about making football jerseys for this season yet.
That is particularly cool.
I just couldn't pay $50 for a poster...
Wow, those folks are printing money...
Still, that's a cool poster.
There are some reprints on Etsy I might test out for $30
Link? I'm assuming folks that get these from the concert will be trying to resale at an insane value.
Disclaimer: I have no affiliation or idea of quality https://www.etsy.com/listing/1891814624/custom-metallica-m72-tour-2025-p...
All good. I've been looking on ebay as well.
Dang that link sold out this morning....
Found another here:
https://www.etsy.com/listing/4302324357/new-metallica-m72-virginia-tech?...
If you had a chance to buy one then that was probably a missed opportunity. They only made 900 of them and I imagine they are 5-6x that on eBay now
Was thinking when I saw that on the screen that it be cool to find it as a poster or on a shirt. Not looking like I'll be adding that to my collection.
So Tech needs to buy the rights to sell prints. Only make them available to Hokie Club members. Watch Hokie Club add 20k members.
Can't find any videos yet. Anyone got links?
Great show and Pantera kicked ass as well
My daughter was just able to text me and expressed that the show was outstanding.
Edit: She scored a guitar pick.
I just got home and only live about 10 miles from campus... Great concert. Wish they had two different warm up bands.
Yes they did

Damn that second guy is ripped. I'm assuming he's got unlimited years to play unlimited years?
Let's bring him in at MLB
That would be Zack Wylde, and yes he's ripped. Dude did the usual rock n roll lifestyle, then realized ~10 years ago he was driving himself into an early grave. Flipped the lifestyle, he's now a gym freak, and his post concert meal is a bowl of 2 dozen scrambled eggs.
Scrambled no I could not buy deviled. I could crush two dozen and be happy to tell you about it.
I watched my brother in law crush almost 2 dozen deviled eggs (2 dozen full eggs) i think about 3 halves were eaten and he ate the rest, it was something from a 6'3" 160lbs guy
Everybody knows, man. You don't mess with Slim.
Everyone's schedule is different.
I commonly have a beer in hand at 6 AM.
I get home from work at about 5:45 AM.
I hear ya. To be fair, there isn't much better than a greasy country breakfast with a stout. Bonus points if it's a breakfast stout.
I really like the creaminess of beers brewed with oats.
From WDBJ:
That was just the intro... the exit was even larger
https://x.com/wattsupbrent/status/1920315744388038741?s=46
Lane was clearly rocking.
Yeah that show kicked so much ass. They still got it. Unforgettable night
Had an old IT colleague who had two favorite phrases.
1) "Enough time and money an d we can do anything"
2) Cheap, fast, good. Pick any two (cause you can't get all three).
So you're saying that VT only picks ONE (presumably the 'cheap' option? s/sorta
To be fair... It was the fastest sell out that Metallica has ever had in all of their years of touring.
Yeah the demand for last night was crazy. Not only did I see people come, tailgate and just set up a chair in a parking lot to listen without a ticket, but I was also told that they completely sold out of their VT specific merch within the first 30 minutes of the gates opening at 4.
Insane
I can sort of attest to that. There was still VT merch available at various spots, but the one shirt I really wanted (the Hokie bird with the skeleton emerging) was totally sold out at the frantic experience entrance we went to except for the one shirt they had up on the wall, which was an adult S. My youngest (who wasn't there) got a pretty awesome present from last night. I also checked eBay this afternoon to see what was available and the same shirt is selling between $130 and $300.
VT should license these.
From the TSL article written by Jeff Holland: "Live Nation told Virginia Tech that the Blacksburg stop was the fastest-selling show on the tour, moving 75,000 tickets in no time"
Should have done 2 nights. Thursday night in Lane with Metallica! Would have to make a no repeat exception though.
I keep saying these same things about Bristol Motor Speedway. The Battle at Bristol was an amazing weekend!
https://www.bristolmotorspeedway.com/events/mlb-speedway-classic/
Can't believe MLB is doing this before the Bananas.
If only there were an engineering school nearby that could come up with a solution for that. Wait a second...😄
Rumor has it everyone is still waiting to get out of their parking spots.
Got to my car about 11:20 up above Chicken Hill and was on 460 at 11:30. Shocked, I tell you, shocked.
I went from my seat in the stadium to my drive way in Cave Spring (Roanoke) in under an hour.... I was flabbergasted.
Even better than me. Seat to Hanging Rock (Salem) in about hour. I too was totally stunned.
for all the love Bristol got, it took us about 4 hours to even get out of the Red Barn Lot. had a cop knock on my window and threaten to breathalyze me because i put the car in park and fell asleep lol
I have to believe that the band enjoyed that concert. That's a lot of love for Enter Sandman and for the band in general from 100,000 fans.
I'm imagining a fantasy where Lane has LEDs and spotlights installed, SEC logos on the field, and is getting ready to run out to Sandman against Bama in Lane with that crowd on ESPN prime time. Ah a guy can dream I guess.
The band even mentioned they had to widen the entrances for the equipment trucks.
https://twitter.com/AndyBitterVT/status/1918347763173241104
Live nation is paying for putting field back together.
yup -- LN invested a LOT of money in this specific show as part of their tour deal w metallica. it would not have happened without LN stepping in to foot costs incurred by the challenging logistics. VT uninterested in paying $$$$$ to host the concert (rightfully so) and the band uninterested in playing for free (rightfully so).
Can't wait to see how creative VT is using footage/sound from this concert.
So, if you hold off on enter sandman until the end, the students don't leave at halftime. Good to know.
Ok. Take your damn leg.
Wow. I was there and this video still gives me chills like it's the first time I've ever heard the song. I hope they release the full concert like this - absolutely epic.
Zakk Wylde was the guitarist for Pantera??
My god I missed the best show ever.
Zakk's amazing. But...
This dude low key might have been the best of Ozzy guitarists.
That's not Randy Rhoads. That's Jake Lee.
I know! Jake seriously underrated.
I was saying that Randy Rhoads was the best Ozzy guitarist.
Lol agree. But had to give some love for Jake.
And for those who need a grin today, check this out.
https://augustafreepress.com/news/virginia-tech-has-enter-sandman-uva-ha...
the rest of the link is uva-has-nothing-we-can-call-ours/ if the whole thing doesn't come through.
Thanks to my Hokie bro Phil.
Edit: sorry for my lack of computer skills.
Reading this made my morning.
Lol, love it. Especially since AFP is the most whiny sad sack UVA supporting rag in existence.
I'm sure UVA could get DMB to let them use "Crash Into Me" for their football entrance
DMB should make them use the footage of their tour bus going over the bridge in Chicago.
Or "Let You Down."
I think 'Don't Drink the Water' might be good for UVa
'Stay or Leave' would be the official song of the break between the 1st and 2nd quarter at Scott Stadium
"I'm a Loser" by the Beatles, maybe? Who knows, maybe Ringo would come and drum it with Bruce Hornsby singing or something.
Edit: Forgot Dave Mathews. How 'bout Ants go Marching or whatever that song is?
"Ants Marching"
Absolutely epic concert. Just killed it. The props they gave to VT throughout was really special. Just a once in a lifetime experience.
This dude must've been really close to us; that was just about our exact vantage point
Field has already been resodded
I'm shocked! Things can actually happen quickly?!? /s
When LiveNation is in charge of it.
Cool writeup about the seismic activity from a small regional magazine called Rolling Stone:
Metallica's 'Enter Sandman' at Sold-Out Virginia Tech Concert Sparks Seismic Activity
Did anyone snag one of the custom guitar picks with the date and Hokie bird on it? I'm seeing them all over Facebook and I'm sad that I was in the nosebleeds. If anyone has an extra that they don't want/need, please let me know.
My daughter grabbed one but I think she'd only give it up for a semester's tuition
Understandable! Prized property for sure.
I can try and find out how many a coworker from the pit got. She and her husband got some there and I know he got some at the Jersey presentation. Helps he was one of the original videographers that started the hole Metallica thing.
That would be amazing, thanks! Please let me know if they'd part with one.
We are Natty Champs in one arena!

If anyone wants a copy of the soundboard recording for this show you can download mine: link.
File sharing. Just like the days of Napster.
Leg for Napster reference
Thanks!
So I got them downloaded and like the cover art that was made, but I get no audio. The song time shows and it's progressing like it's playing, but nothing on audio. When I go to settings it says Audio: none. Did I miss a step? Possibly m4a format vs player issue?
My cousin had the same issue and he said converting them to MP3s fixed it. Something about "that dumbass proprietary apple format"
Ok. I did not realize that the m4a was Apple specific (I am team Android) and I was hoping that media players today evolved to play nearly any audio type. I will find a way to convert them. thanks!
EDIT: Found an online converter and now I have audio! Thanks for sharing.
you are such a homie for this. a thousand thanks
Thanks for this. Just curious if anyone's listened through it and noticed a few glitchy moments on a few songs or whether I need to re-download and re-convert to MP3.
Lars makes mucho mistakes live and even skips entire parts. He improvs and plays sloppy now. Always has really. He's not Peart live put it that way.
If this isn't used in the intro...well, we ran out of money!
What was up with Lars? That didn't sound right.
music fans have been asking this since 1989
It's crazy. He can't even keep time.
I thought it was fireworks or something in one song then realized that the drums were just way off and not even close.

enough to buy one mid level 3 star transfer back up QB
all reported NIL figures are fake, but I get what you are saying.
So today I learned that Metallica performed Funeral for a friend/Love lies bleeding in my hand for Elton John and Bernie Taupin at the Gershwin Awards last year. VERY COOL!
