I don't believe I've ever had a comment go plaid - at this point, I'd take a negative plaid post because I don't think plaid is in the cards for me anymore, what with the key players club being the only source of legs. Ya'll wanna just drill me on this post to achieve negative plaid?

It's still quite possible, though, yes, more difficult. But when it happens, it will be more special.
From my perspective it would have been cool if folks who used TKP every day for years and years coughed up the cash and joined TKPC (way before the site went full paywall), but it is what it is at this point. I really don't want to roll back the change and while I hope more people decide to join, it's going to be tough. Twitter is a no longer a good way to get people in the door because the algorithm is so warped, and I'm running a mom and pop, not a click bait factory so I don't have the resources (or interest) in just pumping low-grade, free content to acquire leads.
At this point I'm dependent on word of mouth. So I'm greatly appreciative of whoever wants to spread the word.

Before the site was TKP members only, there were way more users who could upvote comments. Now there are fewer users, so you have to get a way higher ratio of people to give you a leg in order to go plaid.

I almost never downvote, unless it's a genuinely offensive comment. And on principal I can't downvote you for this, because this would be by far the least deserving downvote I've ever given.
But I admire your self-deprecating humor, it's one of the things that makes this site worth every penny for joining the TKPC.

Many folks around here wouldn't believe this, but IRL I'm mostly a really positive person. I think I treat tkp (and sports generally) as my outlet for cynicism. I definitely paint with a pessimistic brush much more on tkp than anywhere else. Perhaps having this outlet lends to me being more positive in the other areas of my life.
In any case, I posted the "meh" comment partly from that cynical outlet stance and partly to be funny because Joe published the fam thread seconds after I posted the "meh" thread. It was meant to be TIC.
Either way, I really love tkp and the special community we have here. There are lots of interesting people with different lived experiences and life stories. It's the coolest place on the interwebs, hands down.
My sense of humor is dry and doesn't always translate well via text. In person isn't much better, tbh, because of my very deadpan delivery. But I'm glad someone appreciates it!
Cheers to you, stevetheking!

No surprise. Online sites allows folks to dive into personality traits that may not necessarily be how they act in person.
For example, there is no way in Hell that DC is that angry and drops the F bombs like he does on this site in real life. To me, it's part of his TKP persona that's partly self created for effect. Quite frankly, I find it entertaining.
I think this site brings out the best in all of us in regards to cleverness, wit, humor, buffoonery, slapstick, etc.
For the most part, this is quite a civil and classy place that proves daily that humans can be cool without the need of a "looney HOA level" amount of community guidelines.

Burnop and Roth mentioned in the post game that the stats computer went down during the game and stats were being recorded by hand. Not sure if that's why the delay in stats occurred.

Defense played amazingly well, even spending so long on the field! Got up early enough that they had to go for it on 4th instead of kicking a bunch of fgs. If GT knew we wouldnt gain any more yards they would have kicked fgs.

The greatest GIF of all time. You will never convince me otherwise. Which makes me think, that's a good offseason topic, favorite GIF. I don't know how you beat two Fullers, having just done something awesome, finds a way to be uniquely awesome again.
Favorite non-Fuller GIF is Jaire Alexander peacock strutting.

Defense showed up and the offense was meh at best...depending on what happens to Tuten (hopefully he misses just Cuse) we should be okay. Malachi Thomas is solid #2 and has had his best against Cuse...I choose to FAM!!'
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Small things that help - Thomas Williams #23, I've noticed him at gunner on the punt team over the past few games, he is really good at getting separation from the defender and in place to make a play on the punt returner. He's made some tackles and forced fair catches. Won't necessarily win a game for us but it helps.

FAM! I missed the first half and watched something happen in the second half, but I'm sort of at a loss to describe it.
I wasn't worried at all until they changed QBs to the guy who can throw, which happened to coincide with our decision to start playing a lot of zone which I personally don't think we do well at all.
But I'd rather take an ugly win all day long than a pretty loss. I'll go back and watch the first half to see some points get put up on the board.

Everyone mentions what changes could be made for next season, how do we avoid the slow starts, etc. After 8 games I think the biggest changes needed are:
OL is terrible - we should promote Brent Davis to main OL coach and let Crook go. Just inexcusable. Brent keeps some continuity but also allows him to have better input. Frankly, I think his option background meshes (see what I did there?) well with Bowen's offense, so would like to see that.
QB Coach - let's actually hire one. Sorry Crist, but I want us to find a legit good QB coach somewhere. I think hanging on to Bowen at OC makes sense - he has shown some really good stuff. But we need better QB recruiting and coaching.
Defensively - we have improved. We just need to recruit a bit better at certain spots, but I don't think either coordinator is the main problem at this point. They have struggled greatly at times, but I'm seeing growth.

if I recall correctly, Davis took the assistant role because he wanted to take a step back. Not sure he wants to be a position coach again.
I'm also not convinced that BD is the mastermind behind this success. To me knowledge, this entire theory stems from Chris Coleman speculating on the TSL podcast.
I don't have an informed opinion on Crist, but I do think it's going to be hard to find a QB coach to come in and not be OC.
Couldn't disagree more on you defensive diagnosis. Today was good, but the rest of the last 2.5 years have not been.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
As far as Chris Coleman's scoop/analysis on BD, I think he went as far as he could without saying he basically took command of our offense last year. I trust his inside perspective.
I don't disagree that Marve has been underwhelming, but if a defensive guy like Pry has to issue a mea culpa and fire Marve, he better pick a damn good dc. And that likely means someone who might not share his philosophy. I just don't see how he parts with Marve.

I will note I do think Davis has a large influence on the offense but because he has been the OC of the one of best rushing attacks for a over decade at two different schools. Noting the caveat that he's only been a triple-option offense coordinator, but those concepts are clearly a part of the Hokie success the last two years. I do think VT needs an experienced QB/passing game coordinator to help exploit bad secondaries (like GTs, Vandy, etc.). I think Bowen is the coordinator and primary play design, formation design, etc., but I don't think there is a substitution for an experienced coordinator that has seen various defenses and know how to find ways to exploit them.

To think on it a bit after the fact, give credit where credit is due. GT's game plan....stop Tuten. They did a great job on Run D in limiting Tugboat today.
The good news is our O has found a rhythm where we still have a mobile threat in Drones and have enough of a passing game that allowed Drones to be directly involved with all three TD's in passing for 1, receiving a pass for 1, and rushing for 1.
A team can shut down our RB but still have to account for a mobile QB and decent enough passing game.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
The best part of the game for me was Drones' receiving TD on the "Philly special". My son was QB on his flag football team, and caught a few TD's on a WR reverse pass (Philly special is what they called the play). He was pumped! FAM!

I was working, but had the game going on my phone. There were a bunch of times where I wasn't actually able to pay attention. It seemed like several of those moments were where GT had gotten the ball, were driving, and a score seemed inevitable. I'd come back to the game, expecting all my worst Hokie fears to be revealed, only to find no additional points on the board.
We certainly weren't effective. But we scored what we needed to, and defended when we needed to. Game was won. Fam.

I vote we make the above post plaid as a token of good faith and to propel us to victory this Saturday.
seconded
I've always wanted to go plaid too, but yeah. I can probably take that line out of my bio now, sadly
It's still quite possible, though, yes, more difficult. But when it happens, it will be more special.

Unfortunately going Plaid isn't much of an option anymore. I think maybe one or two instances have happened since the changes.
Say the stuff others are too afraid to and just accept the negative plaid.
What are the changes? I've been out of touch. We don't need to relitigate anything controversial if you could point me in the right direction.

I cuss way more in real life
I just use very colorful language seasoned with Navy.
I too use colorful language with a splash of Army. The F bomb seems to be on semi-auto without fail.
Same. IRL I am both more and less than I appear to be on here.
(Don't worry though, the Beard is real.)
He's not. I have sauces.
A win is a win let's go
1 game away from bowl eligibility, fam.
edit: pls heal up boys, that was ugly
This is what I came here for. FAM
Still in contention for the ACC!
Dub is a dub, even uninspiring ones like this.
Really hope tuten and chaplin are okay ๐
OL was underwhelming FAM
Great job by the defense and punting game. A win is a win. FAM!
We were the less bad Tech today. Fam.
FAM.
A win is a win, and the defense showed signs of life today.
Meh fam. ESPN apparently didn't take any stats for the game today so I'm not sure if we won the TOP or not but it doesn't feel like it.
But hey no TDs and zero points after halftime on D today so not too shabby
EDIT: ESPN updated the stats. GT got bamboozled by the TO margin
Burnop and Roth mentioned in the post game that the stats computer went down during the game and stats were being recorded by hand. Not sure if that's why the delay in stats occurred.
So our offense wasn't the only one that had a bad day at the office
Yes, it very much felt like that.
Everyone wants to go back to the CFB/Bud Foster era should be FAMMING the hell out of this game.
I felt the pain of having no offense.
It was familiar, but I didn't like it.
Defense played amazingly well, even spending so long on the field! Got up early enough that they had to go for it on 4th instead of kicking a bunch of fgs. If GT knew we wouldnt gain any more yards they would have kicked fgs.
Hope Tuten is okay
Hope Tuten and Delane are ok. Fam.
And Xavier Chaplin
Our Brent is better than their Brent.
I still think their Brent is going to mow my grass this week.
FAM FROM RHODE ISLAND!
Time for a good seafood dinner at Iggy's!
You're getting close to the Cape! Next time let me know & we can get some golf in.
I miss Iggy's. They had good food last time I was there.
It was a really good dinner!
A bad team loses that game. We had them scrambling to do anything on offense all day and made sure it was never really close.
Defense showed up today - FAM

Fam. That wouldn't end. Glad to get the dub but I've never been so concerned about a 2 score lead in my life.
To be fair, I was way more concerned in the 3rd quarter last week than this week.
same. I was never really concerned this game.
FAM!
But dear god hope Chaplin and Tuten are ok. Major linchpins to our success.
Somebody needs to linchpin their legs together
Defense showed up and the offense was meh at best...depending on what happens to Tuten (hopefully he misses just Cuse) we should be okay. Malachi Thomas is solid #2 and has had his best against Cuse...I choose to FAM!!'

He's made some tackles and forced fair catches. Won't necessarily win a game for us but it helps.
Lovett is also a beast at gunner. I've noticed him on several plays this season.
Yeah, he's been great as well, had a huge tackle today.
FAM !!
FAM! I missed the first half and watched something happen in the second half, but I'm sort of at a loss to describe it.
I wasn't worried at all until they changed QBs to the guy who can throw, which happened to coincide with our decision to start playing a lot of zone which I personally don't think we do well at all.

The Gosnell's are continuing to establish themselves as another set of brothers succeeding on the VT gridiron FAM.
The Gosnells are certified beauties.
That's three straight conference wins that were relatively stress free (albeit ugly today).
Also the first 3 game win streak since 2019 according to Andy Bitter
Fam.
Glad to beat gt EVERYTIME!
(Doesn't always happen.)
In fact they were on a 4 game win streak in Lane...
Fam. We are complaining about a "weak win". That hasn't existed for us for several years!
FAM! Ugly game on offense, but we scored TDs when we got down in the red one and they didn't. The D and Special teams showed up big.
Hope Tuten, Chaplin and the other banged up Hokies heal up quick.
This thread is what I was looking for FAM.
Get that meh thread out of here.
I win is a win, and I'll take every one we can get FAM!
FAM! Defense kept their offense out of the endzone all game. Crowd was great again!
It looked like most of the students stayed for the 2nd half, which was surprising as normally the homecoming crowd leaves after halftime.
Winning ugly games is still winning and sometimes you have to win ugly
VT has a strong tradition with this. Also, sadly, losing ugly in one score games.
We should've let them score a garbage time touchdown so Pry could finally get a second one-score win.
Too risky.
FAM! First 3-game win streak in the pry Era.
And it is a conference win streak!
FAM should be undefeated in ACC play!
We ARE undefeated in ACC play. Da'Quan Felton caught that ball.
FAM!!! One step closer to that rematch with Miami.....
Even if it was a step that would get you a breathalyzer test....
FAM, it was ugly but no Tuddies allowed and we won the Techmo Bowl. Just Win Baby.
Bump FAM!
Still the greatest FAM gif. FAM!
I'm all about the FAM and not the MEH!
Polyteching > single teching
It science (or engineering, I you will).
THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE TRUE TECH FAM BACK TO ALLANNA WITH YA G_

Caught this one on the radio doing the leaves. Proud of our team fighting the whole way and beating a decent team. FAM!
We ALL appreciate your sacrifice. FAM!
How's Tuten FAM?
Seriously, how's Tuten?
FWIW, it was walking around downtown this evening
This is news we all need. Thanks. FAM!
In a boot? (Precaution likely but asking for a friend)
Sorry late to the fam thread. Had an all day softball tournament. My daughters last 12u tournament before moving to 14u.
You have your priorities straight.
I know we wish it would have been 35-6, but a win is a win.
Especially in a game where in the past 5 years we could just have easily lost. We are the superior Tech, FAM!
To think on it a bit after the fact, give credit where credit is due. GT's game plan....stop Tuten. They did a great job on Run D in limiting Tugboat today.

Weirdly we're ranked 24th in SP+.
According to SP+:
VT SP+ rating score: 12.5
VT Defense ranked 29th, Offense 34th, and ST 21st.
VT's opponents:
Vandy rated 3.9 (ranked 55th)
ODU -7.3 (91st)
Marshall -4.8 (82nd)
Rutgers 0.7 (67th)
Miami 23.3 (9th)
Stanford -9.3 (97th)
BC 1.0 (66th)
GT 3.9 (53rd)
Cuse 3.2 (61st)
Clemson 18.2 (14th)
Duke 7.3 (43rd)
UVA -0.5 (71st)
Not sure what to make of this. Lost opportunities? Maybe SP+ overly favorable to VT this year?
VT is closer in rating to Duke than Clemson, but it's close. Based on ratings, VT is projected to be a 5.2 favorite over Duke and 5.7 dog under Clemson on a neutral field.
Receiving more votes than the defending national champs Michigan - hang the banner!
Pretty sure we were receiving votes in the preseason T25
They don't ask how. They ask how many.
In other news, no GIFtory?
lol - there would only be like 4 GIFs
No GIFtory this week. I didn't seem like there'd be much appetite for it and it takes a decent chunk of my day to do, so I enjoyed the weekend. At some point I got into the habit of doing it for every win, when VT was good, it was only for big wins.
Save your time for the smack down we deliver Clemson
Let's go 1 and 0 this week first. Try not to get to far ahead of ourselves.
It would be pretty on brand for VT to lose to cuse and then beat Clemson
