Holy Shit,
down goes Liberty, and thus their playoff hopes - up in... Flames.
You just hate to see it 🤷🏿♂️
Chaos off to a strong start this week. Liberty were a 20 something point favorite.
I hope our fellas keep that in mind for this weekend.
Anyhow, which games are you guys most looking forward to?
Syracuse @ Pitt on Thursday
Boise State @ UNLV
Notre Dame @ Navy ...??maybe?? Navy keeps it interesting? Vegas doesn't seem to think so
Illinois @ Oregon
Texas @ Vanderbilt. I actually think this night be a wash. I think Texas will be ready, looking to bounce back from UGA
LSU @ TAMU ... are either of these two legit?
SMU @ Duke. please, someone finally put Duke down.

Few things in life bring me as much joy as liberty losing
right there with you
Liberty will just have to sit in the corner and watch the rest of the CFP teams have their way with each other in the playoffs.
Liberty didn't just lose yall!
It couldn't have happened to a better group of schmucks
Ain't nothing quite like seeing Liberty get bent over from the comfy confines of the corner chair in the room
If FSU loses to Miami and is eliminated from bowl game consideration they will have been eliminated BEFORE Kennesaw State!!
I didn't think I could love this any more, but Fireman, you found a way!
I'm interested in sPitt/Cuse- for obvious reasons.
BSU/UNLV looks like it could be a good game.
UT/Vandy I think is going to be a blowout. I think UGA caught Texas feeling themselves and don't think Vanderbilt can catch 2 top teams in one year. Wouldn't mind being wrong though!
LSU/aTm I think will decide who gets a spot in Atlanta.
SMU/Duke looks interesting. Don't know who to cheer for- Duke has a trip to Miami and then us in Durham (half a home game for us honestly) still to play. SMU really only has sPitt and Cal left.
Cuse/Pitt time
Both these QBs had really bad first throws
McCord looks fucking awful
edit: early pick 6.
It's almost like Kyle McCord really isn't that good against quality competition, and was able to look great because he was throwing to Marvin Harrison Jr.
Pick of the year by luck holy crap.
McCord 2nd pick.
incredible play by the defender.
Pitt looks.... good
*checks schedule*
Wow, another pick 6 for Pitt
'Cuse has been fraudulent all year. It has all come to a head in nine minutes.
I can't put into words just how bad McCord is tonight.
3 ints. 2 pick 6s.
un-real.
I hate Pitt looking decent but good Syracuse looks horrid
You know Narduzzi is going to put his secondary on an island but man, they are playing man and putting seven in the box and the pressure is getting home every time. That ball has got to get out quicker.
My only concern here is Cause laying a total egg tonight only to figure it all out by next weekend against us
Looks like the key is to pressure McCord.
Can we get the pressure with 4? Our blitzes have been meh.
cuse never got off the bus
These roughing the passer calls are ridiculous we had a couple bad ones last week too
Like the late hit out of bounds they called on us last week. I get they're trying to protect the players, but it's getting ridiculous.
Yeah that one and a roughing call on Fuga that was not at all late
another one.
4 picks, three of those being pick sixes, in one half is an absurd statline.
Trying desperately not to get vastly overconfident watching Syracuse play tonight.
But they look SAWWFT and McCord is a disaster under pressure.
APR could have a field-day.
Yet somehow they are going to transform completely next week in that godforsaken dome
I didn't think... I KNEW that we were going to beat them up there in 2016. That was a good VT team and a total dogshit Syracuse one... no exaggeration. They beat Colgate, UCONN, VT and BC that year. Absolute dogshit team. So is it a curse? In my opinion, yes it is. Too many examples. My fear this year is the way to beat Cuse up there is something we don't do under Pry- play a clean game, no mistakes, no stupid penalties, and play sound run defense to force McCord to pass- like Pitt did. Pry hasn't shown consistency there.
Cuse has run more than twice as many plays at pitt, those pick 6s help, they're just wearing the defense done, pro strat!
This Pitt Syracuse game is straight out of a video game. Kudos to Cuse for not quitting yet.
McCords stat line was wild:
54.7%, 321 yards which is a really solid game until you account for the 5 interceptions
Add in 127 yards in interceptions.
Yeah its bad when you look at turnovers....Pitt's defense outgained their offense in the first half.
He did not look good at all in the first half. He had some tough breaks but really made some bad throws and looked lost. Once the game was essentially out of reach and he had nothing to lose he seemed to settle in. I think the key is gonna be to pressure him and hope he makes mistakes. They did not look that scary to me and truthfully even though it was a prison yard beatdown Pitt didn't look like a 7-0 team. Hope they trip up down the stretch. I hope them tripping up stays relevant for us.
Yeah I think Pitt has a legit defense but their offense is liable to stall quite a bit. A good qb that get place a ball on a quick route and fades should have no trouble beating their pressure and man coverage enough to outscore them especially if Pitt's QB isn't 100%
They also appeared to pin their ears back and send the house. I would think some good runs and zone read could slow them down a bit.
Salty Pat blamed the Syracuse turnovers for his offense not getting "on track", LOL.
I hate Pitt just because of that guy
Ugly Ugly game- unwatchable for most of it. Cuse had more yards than Pitt but threw a million picks. Newsflash- McCord will look like 2015 Tom Brady against VT.
Hopefully we can peal and eat the orange just like this in the next week.
HorseOnaTreadmill gonna love the Pitt / Cuse ToP stat line. But holy moly selective stats...
Who's winning? Early in the 4th?
SYR 32m to 13m TOP
SYR 225 to 146 yds
SYR 16 to 9 first downs
SYR 4/5 4th down conversion
Syracuse 5 Turnovers: Pitt 0
3 pick sixes.
Pittsburgh biggest concern has to be the injury to their QB, Holstein. After he went out they were a zero on offense even trying to run out the clock.
Really seems like he's their bell cow
Dammit. Take your leg
This is the premium content I pay money for. Legs, my friend.
We probably can't count on them to turn it over 5 times next weekend.
I nean we should not assume it will happen and actually go make it happen
Yep those turnovers are the achilles heel against TOP. Doesn't matter your TOP if you have too many TO
Talk about a reversal of fortune for Georgia Southern. First to beat JMU last week, got curb stomped by ODU this week. 47-19. It was 44-7 at one point at which time ODU put in all their backups.
The incredible fall of Florida State has been an absolute joy to witness. I 1000% believe they were unfairly snubbed last year and their utter incompetence this year is the funniest story of the year
They paid the wrong QB... and like Saban said, you do that and you are shit out of luck. They got a QB that sucks. bottom line.
There was a reason Clemson moved on from him.
I would have been the first in line to tell you that DJ is NOT IT, but that FSU team has problems all over the place despite talent almost everywhere.
They are a true embarrassment this season on so many levels. 44 blue-chip players on that roster and they are 1-6, haven't broken 20 points scored since week 1 against GT (21), and I think their most likely finish is 3-9, and that's making the big assumption that they beat UNC in two weeks.... or it's 2-10.
Amen- they went from very good to very bad. Kirby Smart literally broke the program. You would think in a mid ACC sheer talent would be more competitive to your point. Norvell better bounce back next year in a big way or he is done.
Even owing him $65M, I am not sure he survives after this season. Must be nice to have a $65M parachute.
Well their performance bonus should cover that... Oh wait.
Maybe FSU is planning on that SEC money to bail them out after they have left the ACC. Oh wait, the lawsuit wasn't a slam dunk like they thought? Oh wait, they have found out their only offer is going to be from the B12 for less money than they are making now.
CFP committee broke them. Half their team opted out of their bowl game because of it. Georgia finished the rest of them off.
UNC has lost some barn burners. I think they outscore FSU.
Seems this will continue.
Still pretty early, but B.C. is handling Louisville.
just tuning in and seeing Boston College is up on Louisville, 0-14.
BC doing everything they can to lose to Louisville in Q3 and 4.
Who are we cheering for here? Assuming BC
to give Loserville that 2nd loss.Edit: misread the standings... still, assuming BC because L'ville just sucks
Hoping that's the case, yes.
They both already have two conference losses. I want BC to win to make our win look better.
BC's def right now seems to be using the end zone to make stops.
They both already have 2 (lvlle: Miami and any; bc: us, uva)
Edit: shit, go to look up the Ls and you miss out
BC's punter is out. The guy doing it now is punting less than 30 yds.
Hoping we get the same postgame rant like we got last week from Arizona State
Wow thought that they were going to call BC for Defensive PI which would have been bullshit
Yeah, it was uncatchable but the Louisville WR did a good job of trying to draw the foul.
That might have been called a roughing. Guy that size.
Should have been
There are times to slide but that wasn't one. He had one guy to beat to get the first down and end the game.
BC gets the ball back on their own 35 with 1: 25 left.
1 TO.
Don't understand Castellanos always escaping to the side he has to turn to throw. He has done it five times in the last two drives. Just ugly.
I noted the same thing. He could have slid out of pocket to the side he wanted to move to. Did not.
Bad throw thru the end zone, it was not catchable.
Wow that hail Mary was terrible
I know. The refs didn't even have a chance to make the wrong call.
he missed the whole end zone 🤣
Navy caught the fumble bug today
TD LET'S GO
I just noticed that Tony Elliott has a great constipated look.
UNC has opened it up over UVa. 24-7 now.
loluva
Oh man UVa had their wheels fall off today
Man, I left it on ACCN after the VT game, and I saw that Wake at Stanford was coming on. I immediately almost died of boredom and had to change the channel. Wonder what the viewership for that one is going to be.
11....people....combined.
Now that it's tied at 2 mins left in the 4th....16 people...combined.
Cal takes the lead on a "perfectly" designed play call
That's a lot of backyard football right there.
Oregon punishing Illinois 35-3 at the half. Cal doing the same to Oregon State 31-0 at the half. Vandy is trying, down 11 at the half to Texas. Pavia went out temporarily with a knee issue (has a sleeve type brace on now).
I'm a little surprised by Navy today. I didn't necessarily expect a win, but I did expect to see a closer game, especially their D against ND's offense.
Right now the only bon-blowout on tv is Wake-Stanford
Normally wouldn't watch this one, but literally everything else is a 3 score game
Vandy Texas is only 2 scores, but I'm watching Stanfords comeback, too
Make that one... Bevo sweatin' a bit
Go Vandy
I didn't see how much orange was in that stadium til just now. Damn.
Vandy is having a year
Damn thought Cal would win but picked Oregon at to cover. Whoops
Dammit Vandy I was rooting for you
Kansas just did one of the dumbest things I've ever seen.
Guy caught the ball in the corner of the field on a kickoff and immediately ran OB. 1st down from the half yard line, Safety.
And this was right after Kansas St tied the game
Right now the safety is the difference in the game
That play was the difference...Kansas loses 29-27
Anyone have a clue just what the heck the Arizona coach's neckwear is all about?
Looks like kelp (just caught about 20 seconds of the game flipping around)
Should have been offensive targeting on the play where the FSU defender got hurt and had to leave the field. Offensive player lowered his head and drove it into neck area of the defender.
Saw a post on Twitter about the Toledo and Bowling Green rivalry.
Toledo Rockets have a disarmed rocket near their stadium that is pointed in the direction and elevation that would fire the rocket to midfield of Bowling Green's stadium. That's some excellent add in a rivalry.
This is actually pretty badass.
Can't believe how weak the FSU interior defensive line is. Miami has +4 or more up the middle every time.
Duke SMU in a tie game with 9m to go. Hokies need Blue Devils to get the win.
Duke kicker has choked twice now.
He's probably wondering why their team, with the winning record they have, can't draw more fans against a ranked opponent than UVA usually gets at their spring game.
It's crazy seeing these teams with decent records in metro areas with half a million or more people not able to get even 75% of their stadium filled.
People around here (Durham) don't know what football is... 🤷
If Duke goes 0-5 on converting turnovers into points then they absolutely deserve to lose this game. They should be up by 3+ scores with those numbers.
Edit: 0-6, and Duke kicker will be getting absolutely zero postgame action tonight, this week, or possibly the rest of this season.
Another turnover after playing scared with that punt, can they score a point to win the game here?
Completely agree
Duke's defense just created a 5th turnover with less than 2 to go
After your kicker has missed two kicks you let the clock run down to kick?
Fucking serves Duke right...blocked kick for third missed kick of the night
After that TD run from SMU the Duke possession in their half of OT is just a formality.
Manny with all the "Go for Dos" balls hanging out here
Duke absolutely deserved that L. SMU gave them that game and they couldn't do a damn thing, not one damn thing to convert any of those TOs into a single point.
Duke going for two....definitely out on the kicker.
Jeezus the SMU defender couldn't have had more early contact on that conversion. Both hands tugged, went over his shoulders with the arms.
Duke should have had another chance. That was a horrible no call.
Its absolutely incredible that duke was not able to score on one of the THREE turnovers in llus territory that their defense forced in the last few minutes if regulation. Not trying to score a TD was egregious
And we need help from someone (2 someones probably) to beat smu to keep our hopes alive for an unlikely trip to charlotte
They play Pitt next weekend but we need both those teams to lose
It's really a shame Duke couldn't take advantage of that turnover luck. The second tie breaker after head to head record is record against common opponents, and both VT and SMU play Duke, so it would have been an ideal loss for SMU to have.
We ain't going to Charlotte. Not only do we need to be perfect the rest of the way, we need at least 3 of the four teams ahead of us to lose twice because we play only 1 of them and they would all trump us on record since we lost to Vandy and Rutgers.
It would take a minor miracle for VT to get to Charlotte and I just don't see it happening
Maybe if we start next year with wins instead of losses we'll have a shot.
I think there are several plausible scenarios for VT to make it to the championship game, which do assume VT winning out. The Vandy and Rutgers losses don't factor in at all until possibly the 5th tie breaker, and the most likely scenarios should be resolved by the first and second tie breakers. If VT beats Clemson, VT has the head to head tie breaker. If Clemson also beats Pitt, VT would win the record against common opponents tie breaker. If Pitt beats SMU, VT might win the 4th tie breaker (win percentage of conference opponents) because SMU's record is saddled with FSU (lol).
Since 2000, teams that lose the turnover battle by six turnovers were 1-124. Duke is the first to lose since 2009 in that situation.
The one time I was really pulling for Duke.
Honestly, I'm surprised there was even 1 team that was able to win a game losing the turnover battle by 6.
Not sure where to put this, but do yourself a favor and watch the last 3 min of Commanders -Bears game. Holy crap. Great finish.
Vandy beats Texas and falls OUT of the rankings has that ever happened before?Well shit
I must be living in an alternate reality.
Vandy lost the game 27-24. They're now 5-3 overall. Outside of beating Bama, their wins are certainly not impressive. And they were ranked 25th in the AP and Coach's poll. They were leapfrogged by 7-1 Washington State and Memphis in the Coach's poll and a 6-2 Colorado in the AP poll. I don't have a problem with that.
Yea completely read that score wrong. Didn't get to see many games this weekend before the night games thought Vandy had pulled that one off.
lol- I was wondering what you were talking about so I had to go back and look it up too!
Interesting after Cuse got boat raced by Pitt and we covered GT vegas only liking us for -3.5. That being said I think they're right, our DBs haven't shown the ability to cover like Pitt and our offense looked completely inept against GT.
Downvote this all you want. The oldest player on the 2024 Hokies was a sophomore in HS the last time we played at the carrier dome. The only person on the team to play there is Peebles ( a duke win up there BTW). So I am saying this now. If we lose this game it's 100% mental. It's Pry not having the team mentally prepared to beat an inferior Syracuse team. Bottom line. Mental. Beamer and Fuente were both guilty of this too. Were not mentally prepared to beat fucking Syracuse in football on the road without Jim Brown or Donovan McNabb.
If I remember correctly from what I saw it was more about pressure than coverage (not to discount that coverage would still be necessary) so assuming we get better pressure than against GT I think there's a good chance we can control the game. Asking for 5 picks and 3 tds out of it might be a stretch though, that was excessive
Yeah they pressured McCord well but that came with glued on DBs so he had to take a sack or make a bad decision (which he did a bunch)
Don't teams get 3 for homefield advantage? If so, that implies that we would be close to a touchdown favorite on a neutral field. Nonetheless, it's a house of horrors, and every longtime VT fan knows that. I don't buy anything that says we're a favorite until a VT team proves otherwise.
"Don't teams get 3 for homefield advantage?"- categorically NO and not since 20 some years ago. Vegas uses billion point algorithms now to determine spreads. The 3 point home field thing has long been abandoned/debunked etc. It started in the mid 70's in NY with underground bookies, Mike Francessa, and Jimmy the Greek- their 3 point home secret leaked and it was used to set games. Now in Vegas- there are billions of other, more accurate data points used to set lines.

Cuse had an insane amount of turnovers that led to points. One would expect a regression to the mean. Anyone who actually watched GT vs VT would know that the game was much closer than the score. VT hasn't won a game in the
carrierdome since 2000.Basically, Vegas has this pretty right. If they're wrong at all, they're wrong in the other direction. Cuse could win this by a fg
We have only been there twice since 2000. Eight years ago and in 2002. Not exactly a huge statistic to go 1-2 in the last three. Hokies fans are scarred from the Big East days when the Orange had VooDoo magic going on up there.
We are 9-11 overall and 5-5 in the last ten matchups. It is a bit ugly long term up there at 2-8. Most of these players weren't even alive for the majority of those losses though. Pry is 1-0 against the Orange.
Granted, we don't play often, but winning only 20% up there is pretty horrid, especially the last couple when we've had the much better team (interestingly, both cuse teams were 4-8 and both tech teams were 10-4). The only wins were 1986 and 2000. That place is a nightmare for VT. Even with the relatively small sample size, my point stands. VT just does not win in the dome most of the time, even when our team is clearly better.
Our record in Pittsburgh is pretty bad too
Yes- it must be the swaths of empty seats in both places.
I would say: Then why do we always dominate at UVA. But then remembered the stands are full of our fans.
I'd be with you...but 2016- same old fucking thing. Zero reason to lose up there that season. It IS a "thing" sample size or not. Let's see if Pry will have them mentally prepared.
I, for one, still have PTSD from the 1998 game in that god-forsaken dome. Makes me want to imitate McNabb.
Well we have never LOST in the JMA Wireless Dome (ignore the fact that we have never WON there either)-
the name was changed in 2022 and we haven't played there since then.
https://apnews.com/article/sports-syracuse-university-949906458f3e5af8f8....
thanks. fixed
They are 12-5 at home since the name change but 9 of the 12 wins were their OOC schedule.
They are 3-5 in ACC games since 2022 at JMA Wireless
"They are 3-5 in ACC games since 2022 at JMA Wireless"- because largely since McNabb they have fucking sucked. Dog shit program. They will look great Saturday though - bank on that.
It doesn't matter what their record is. The last two Tech teams to play @ Cuse were 10 win teams. Both of those teams lost to 4 win Cuse teams. Regardless of how good or bad Cuse is, VT loses. Death, taxes, Yada yada
Maybe that's just synonymous with the 5-12 curse in March Madness.
Maybe As long as we don't already have 10 wins, we won't lose to a 4-win SYR team.
Syracuse is in 9th place in the ACC. They are 2-2 in the league. Their best win is GT, whom we just beat and held out of the endzone. They lost to stanford, whom we also handled easily on the road.
Syracuse is not: 2015 Alabama. 2023 Michigan. 1998 Syracuse. 2011 Virginia Tech... they are not close to that good. So I am saying this now. Lets see if Brent Pry has the team prepared mentally to play Syracuse. Period. It's not about talent or them being superior to us. See above. If we lose, it's because we are mentally weak. To weak to impose our running game, too weak to not commit stupid fucking back breaking penalties, etc. Mental toughness is why they own us in that fucking dome that will be half empty.
Got it. Syracuse bad. Virginia Tech not so bad. No such thing as curses. Dome > Mental Toughness. No like dome. We lose = We weak team.
