The 1-1 Ladies host 0-1 UNC Ashville at 6 PM tonight in Cassell Coliseum. The game will be on ACCNx.
This will be the fourth meeting between the Hokes and the Bulldogs. Hokies are 3-0 in the series. The Hokies won the last matchup inside Cassell Coliseum 86-48 back on Dec. 11, 2022. Ashville was 11-20 overall in 4-12 in the Big South conference last year.
Ashville is a mature team. Their starting five includes 3 fifth year players, a senior and a sophomore. All the starters are returnees from last year. There are eight new players on the roster; only two are freshman. The Hokies will have an overall height advantage; but the Bulldogs will have the tallest player on the court most of the time in 6'3" #5 Nycera Minnis.

The Bulldogs have played one game this year losing at Mercer 75-52. I guess I could just post the box score; but they have season stats on their website. So, here they are:

Ashville does not appear to be a threat to the Hokies. Mercer won the rebound battle by 12; Ashville had 6 assists and 16 turnovers. Their high scorer had 9 points.
This should be back to the expected early season type of match-up that gives CMD a chance to evaluate the whole team and try various combinations on the court.
ESPN says the Hokies have a 99% chance of winning this game.
LET'S GO HOKIES!

Comments
It should almost be another scrimmage game. We might actually see both White girls play.
Lani White and Ramiya White. What were you thinking about?
Anybody who does not get in this game probably will not play this year.
Does Suffren wear the tape over her right eye instead of taking out a piercing?
Wondered the same. Doesnt have one in any of the team media posts or website.
At 5 minutes, did not expect to see Hokies with 16 right now.
Micheaux though picking up bad fouls
The first five minutes with the score 4-4 worried me a bit, once it was 16-4, I relaxed.
Yep exactly what I was talking about. Looked at score of 4-4 and then clock and went WTF
We had a lot of very sloppy passes in that first five minutes.
We had a lot of very sloppy passes in the game....19 turnovers but should have been 20. They didn't count the steal dribbled out of bounds late in the second half.
Defintely was a very sloppy game.
Ramiya sighting
Damn, I can't tell if it's a hip or knee issue but she appears to be swinging the leg with the sleeve rather than bending it
She looks......not fast, sorry to say.
I didn't expect her to be fast but she is hustling up and down the court. And playing pretty physical underneath the basket
18-6 at the first break.
13 TO's...need to be better.
23 turnovers between the teams and it's not even halftime...ugly
Cassell Guard is embarrassing tonight. There were even a ton of giveaways before and during this game
sloppy
has hazelton played?
No which is odd given that Ramiya White did
Leila Wells also has not played yet.
Not in the box score.
Dribbling just not looking natural for them tonight.
67-42 end of third.
Still no Hazelton. Everyone else has played. Is she hurt?
Not sure I even see her on the bench
Been looking at timeouts and subbing situations
Sighting on the bench.
Was she in uniform or one of those gray sweatshirts?
If she #21, she was in uniform on the bench.
Did not look hurt on the high five run with the fans.
Not sure why a 23 point win felt so bland. Only major issue was the turnovers, definitely why they didn't get to 100 points.
They are going to have to play much better against ACC teams. Encouraged, though. I think they are still learning who they are and how to play together. Defense is ahead of the offense on that, which may reflect CMD's philosophy. Work on the d first; then develop the offense.
I got to sit right behind the bench for the game. Was interesting to hear the coaches talk. CMD was upset with the tentativeness on defense for most of the first half. Ramiya was getting coached up on the sidelines in between her time on the court. Wells (#3 I think) was also getting coached up a good bit. Felt like the energy and engagement was there from the team for the most part.
I was glad to see Ramiya get some play time, but I think she is going to disappear as the games get tougher this year unless we are serious foul trouble. What are the rules for redshirting in BB?
Should she redshirt with clear mobility issues...absolutely
Can Duffy afford to let her with the dirth of size on the roster, especially if Hazelton is sitting any more? Not likely
Too many ACC teams are going to be able to do what Iowa did if she sits most of the season.
You have nailed the dilemma for Duffy.
Any idea what the deal with Hazelton is?
