We're getting ready to watch last year's game, eat some Chex mix and have a brew or two in anticipation of a wonderfully boring slaughteration of those snotty bastids.
They did show how good UVA was last year.
I see where Drones was listed with the rest of the seniors on Instagram. Guess he will be walking today.
Pry makes all seniors walk regardless of their eligibility. Wants to make sure they get the experience if they change their minds or anything. Think it's actually a good policy.
Know he has been terribly inconsistent and somewhat disappointing this year, but he really helped turn things around last year, had played hurt and was not given a whole lot of support by the OL and some of the receivers. Wishing him the best going forward where life takes him.
No idea what he is going to do. Just wouldn't blame him if he left. His draft stock dropped (at least didn't improve). Not sure if he fits in Bowen's system (because I can't tell you what that is....is it the first four games of last year and this or the adjusted one when nothing worked).
I've heard he's leaving...but he was very loyal to Pry last year, so assuming he keeps the same NIL deal, could see him staying.

Should be pretty easy too. UVA football got a multi-million dollar donation after the loss to us specifically for NIL.
Virginia Tech is the far more balanced offensive attack, at 187.2 ypg passing and 185.7 ypg rushing; whereas UVA has relied much more on their passing game 233.6 ypg than their rushing game 135.2 ypg.
Both teams put up about 370 yards of total offense.
The Hokies have the advantage in scoring offense 29 ppg to 23.2 ppg and in scoring defense 23.3 ppg/a to 28 ppg/a
The Hokies have a decided advantage in passing defense, allowing 271.5 ypg to UVA's 263.9 ypg, while the Hoos have a slight advantage in rushing defense, allowing 140.1 ypg to 149.9 ypg.
UVA does not get after the quarterback much, only accruing 17 sacks for 72 yards on the year, compared to Tech's 31 for 191.
The Hokies have the advantage in interceptions 12-9, Opponent completion % at 54.1 to 61.7, Fumbles at 15-4, and both are roughly the same at Rushing Yards per Carry, hovering right around 4 yards per.
On special teams, the Hokies get about 3.5 yards more on all returns, but UVA does have a 2.7 yard net punting average advantage.

That's the major issue, though. I seriously doubt there was a single person on this forum who was hoping Pry was going to be a failure so we could get rid of him. The hype train was strong, and we were all aboard in August. We want nothing but all the success. But he, and the guys that he hand picked, are consistently underwhelming, making bush league mistakes, and in general just not showing that they are capable of succeeding on the level that the Hokies fanbase deserves.
Nobody is hoping that he doesn't succeed until it's too late. And unfortunately it's been too late time & time again since basically when TT left the campus, which is why everyone's fuse is so short these days.

Throwing on the run

Yeah he looks pretty good. Doesn't seem interested in self-preservation, although limited opportunities to do that to this point.
Yeah it's pretty damning just how much better Pop has looked than Drones. Either Bowen/Crist ruined Drones or he spent too much time with Deion Sanders this offseason. Fully expect him to transfer now.
His decision making has been near perfect. Back the truck up to his house, give him a legitimate three years at the helm, and hopefully see big gains his junior senior year

Pop had one good game against the 80th best defense (per SP+).Pop might be better than drones - at least better fit for the system Bowen wants to run - But I'm not ready to anoint him the starter and indict the offensive coaches after seeing Pop win one home game against a team with a shit defense, who we have an astounding mental edge over.

He was 22/33 for 322 yards and two TD passes against Vandy.
Pavia was 12/16 for 190 yards in that game.
Defense couldn't stop the Vandy run game and we lost TOP by over 9 minutes.
And Pavia is a baller we had no good tape to anticipate for defense.
As well, it was not Drones' fault we have too many "0".
I know UVA isn't much of a test, but Pop just looked more polished and to be operating the offense faster and more effectively than Drones did at any point this season. With one week to prepare with QB1 reps, he looked pretty convincing to me. I would certainly hope he gets a shot at the starting job next year. I just don't see how we fork out big NIL dollars to retain Drones next year, and he's not going to take a pay cut or stay and have to compete for the job. And I think Pop deserves a shot.

That's the second busted play for a first down/touchdown tonight. UVA QB turned the wrong way on a handoff earlier, and ended up getting about 15 yards and a first down. Pop just did the same, turned to handoff to a RB that wasn't there, and just shrugged and ran for the touchdown.

I think the most remarkable difference between Pop and everyone else we've seen so far this season, obviously his decision making has been stellar so far, but his blitz reads/pickup and decision making there is *light years* ahead of what we have had this season...
He definitely has a good feel for the pocket and where pressure is coming from. His quickness has also allowed him to elude a few sticky situations.
Pop is much more heady and polished than Drones. Drones just played so slow this year. Pop plays like his butt is on fire.

He didn't make it all the way to the ground before the ball was out, but it did seem like he got a couple steps in so 🤷♂️

Same exact play happened in the Eagles game last week where AJ Brown caught a ball, made 3 steps and then had the ball punched out of his hands.

Are they gassed? This looks more like we're playing a zone prevent or something that we just aren't good at. Like we have our linemen trying to rush the QB and the linebackers look like they're sitting there waiting for something to happen to react to, only they react late. Our LBs seem much better when they're attacking something. At least that's my take for whatever it's worth.

Why can't we ever play D as well in the second half though? It's feels like we're so much less aggressive. I'd say the players may be gassed, but it also looks like they're in a zone and just not picking up players or reacting well.

Tough to do at the end of a long season when he's been dealing with injuries. You just can't push the cardio when you need to rest the lower joints.
