The Ladies travel to Athens to meet the Georgia Bulldogs in Athens at 5 PM in the ACC/SEC challenge. Hokie Sports says the game will be on the SEC Network; my schedule in western PA says I will get Vanderbilt/Miami. The game is listed as available on the watch ESPN app for streaming on the SEC network. Georgia is 5-4 with wins over North Carolina Central, Houston, Furman, Tulsa and Prairie View A&M; and losses to Georgia State, Georgia Tech, Penn State and Hampton. VT is 6-2 with losses to Iowa and Michigan and wins over some early season cupcakes. Georgia appears to be between a cupcake and a program about the same as the Hokies.
Georgia is a mix of tall and short, young and old. They start 2 seniors a redshirt sophomore and 2 freshmen. Their backline is 6'5" RSoph Fatima Diakhate and 6'2" junior Amiya Evans. Mia Woolfolk, 6'3" freshman only played in the first game. Their guards are 5'6" freshman Trinity Turner and 5'8" senior De'Mauri Flournoy and 5'7" senior Asia Avinger. The Hokies will have to fight underneath; but should have an advantage outside. Since UGA is shorter, I assume their guards may be quick. I hope our taller girls can stay in front of them on defense.

Bulldog scoring is led by their guards, who all score in double digits; the two forwards score 9.2 and 8.4 ppg. So overall a balanced offense. They only shoot 40.8% overall and 32.7% from three; they only average 18 attempts from three per game and 6 made threes. All of the three point shots come from the guards; Fatima and Evans have no attempts from three. Evans averages 9.3 rebounds per game, almost as many on offense as defense. The Hokies will have to deep her off the boards to limit second chance opportunities for UGA. Georgia only shoots 68.9% on free throws.

Georgia is 4-2 at home with losses coming to Georgia State and Hampton. I think this is a winnable game for the Hokies; but they need to clean up their defense and turnovers. I hope they are still learning to play in Coach Duffy's offense and will start to look more comfortable. It would also help if they could make open shots and layups.
LET'S GO HOKIES!

Comments
Let's Go
Hokies!
But boo to a 5pm start.
this court is hideous
Holy jesus that is a disgustingly awful basketball court for TV.
Go watch the Pelicans at home.

This was for the NBA Cup tournament.
I hate the cup floors.
All the cup floors are awful.
The defense has been questionable again. Dawgs shooting 60%. Tough to win that way.
If I had hair as long as Samiyah's that kept hitting the back of my arms I would be so distracted
Their big is getting away with moving screens every possession
This led to UGA last two baskets in the half as well. On one she rolled Suffren over her hip.
And several over-the-backs.
But they also haven't called a few questionable OTB against the Hokies. So I won't complain.
The fact that they didn't call a foul on the defender earlier is the only reason there was even a chance to get elbowed in the face.
That should be a block as a cylinder foul but we know they won't call it that
And there it is. Womp womp
I thought they were going to say they changed it to a defensive foul because the defender was so far into the cylinder
Should have
Suffren really adds a ton to this team
mack just got a steal playing 1v3 that was incredible
This SEC Network coverage is nauseating. Of course, the ACC has looked pitiful the last 24 hours
missed an offensive hook on that georgia drive
back to back terrible passes by wenzel
Ekh allowing herself to get trapped on the baseline with 4 seconds on shot clock is just a really brain dead move
Wenzel looks like a zombie today
Yeah. We either get like 60% effort from all 5, or 100% effort from 2-3 of our 5. But never anything all out from our entire 5.
That UGA player went over Rose back for that ball.
That's a dagger. Bad end to 3Q
So many turnovers in a row. I feel like we figured out the middle pass a few times and then noped out of continuing to break the defense
WTF was that from Wenzel? There wasn't anyone within 25 feet of that ball.
Wenzel comes clear of the scrum quickly with ball but official with Uber quick 50/50 whistle
If they could put four quarters like this 4th Quarter together they would be running away with games.
Yep, 13-2 to close out the game
ESPN just threw up a graphic saying SEC 1-ACC 0. Did we jump conferences today?
Fu*k e$pn and the $ec
Jeez- couldn't watch tonight and assumed we lost based on everything on this thread.....checked the score and we won? What's the problem? A win is a win!
They were losing for all but about last three minutes. Thread is accurate. It was not good basketball for most of three quarters. See note about closing on 13-2 run. Hokies trailed 59-57 and won 70-61.
18% of their scoring was in final 3:29.
They averaged 1.58 points per minute for first 36 minutes.
They averaged 3.25 points per minute to close the game.
Allowed 17 turnovers that turned into 19 points for UGA. Created 13 turnovers but only got 9 points.
Ok- thanks lieutenant- got so much going on right now I couldn't watch. Just happy we got the win regardless. Sounds like we still have a bunch of work to do.
Yes. Good true road win against a decent opponent to boost their confidence. But still tons of things on the punch list for Duffy in upcoming practices.
Gotta raise one for the Lady Hokies for hanging in there and taking care of business when it mattered most!
Traveling for work and just now getting free to check in. Sounds like I may need to rewatch the last couple of minutes while waiting for my flight out tomorrow. Any win is a good win.
Any word on Micheaux? I never saw if she came back in after the two GA girls fell on her
She returned to the game.
she came back in and finished the game
SEC leads the challenge 4-2 after day 1.
We did our part even if ESPN gave the win to the SEC at the end of the game.
Congrats to the Women's basketball team.
Nice win!
Bottom line: found a way to come back and win a tight game on the road against an SEC team, in Coach's first season. That's a big deal!
UNC about to put down all the former Hokies in the challenge. Tarheels up 16 with 2:30 to go.
Former or formerly pending Hokies really rough night.
Hassett, Strack, Amoore, Blue and Silva shooting a combined 11 for 36.
Will be their first loss.
72-53 final
Gooood
With all the discussion about NIL money, it occurs to me that we maybe should not be as upset about KBrooks leaving the way he did. If they were doing the same thing to him they did to the men, his choice was to stay at VT and watch his team leave to the SEC or go to the SEC and take his team with him. No sauces, but it fits with the way he left. I would have felt like leaving too, if I just took a team to the final four and was told the AD was pulling my funding.
I didn't have a problem with him choosing to leave. It was the way he left that didn't sit right with me. Be pissed at the administration, but just ghosting the fan base was pretty bullshit.
Fuck Kenny Brooks. I hope he loses every fucking game. Go to Kentucky- a lateral- fine... Don't take our best fucking players asshole.
Precisely correct. If Beamer had gone to UNC in 2000 and taken Michael Vick with him we wouldn't be singing his praises today, would we?
We would not- however taking Vick with would have been a lot harder. Vick would have to sit a year, etc. But the difference between Beamer and Brooks was that Beamer actually values loyalty.
Wait are you trying to tell me that the guy who preached family and then ghosted on the fanbase he preached it to while cherry picking our best players on the way out the door was a 2-faced asshole?
Why I never
in that case, you still post something thanking the fans...and not mention the administration at all.
ACC loses the challenge 10-6
Better than the men's 14-2 shellacking. ACC is basketball conference isn't aging well.
We're a women's soccer conference.
Finally got home and had a chance to watch the game last night. I thought we played much better than the comments on here would suggest. They definitely got a little official home cooking early on, and Wenzel did not do much all game, but we knew we were more of a committee team this season. Complete lack of offensive rebounds off the missed threes stood out to me. Would have been a comfortable win with a few of those. Samyha did a better job offensively at point than Carleigh, but Carleigh's length really bothered their guards and made a difference defensively.
