College Football Playoff

They actually put SMU in. Twitter about to burn down

Ohio State should not have gotten a home game.

Astonished that the CFP actually made the best choice available when given the option of jamming Alabama in.

Bring back the computers lol

Don't think for a second that if Saban were still HC that the choice would be the same.

If Saban was still the HC, they bama wouldn't have all 3 losses.

Fair point

Obviously, best case scenario for the ACC. More teams = more cash for us.

Yes. And I smell mayonnaise suddenly...

Bama vs VT...lol

I'm surprised at no Bama. Pleasantly surprised.

Good for SMU. Happy to see the field they chose but seriously I wish they would have paired up PSU and Indiana in the first round so that at least one Big Ten team was guaranteed to lose. PSU has SMU and Boise SMDH.

Tennessee going to Columbus shouldn't be too bad from a travel or a weather standpoint. SMU might have it a little rough weather wise up here but its been mild for the past few winters.

Wanting to see Clemson beat Tx because it would be hilarious. Also go ND!

Agree on PSU. They have (on paper) the easiest path which will only make it sweeter when either SMU or Boise St. beats them. And I hope one of them beats the brakes off of them.

To quote the Brothers Osborne: "I'm Good For Some But I'm Not For Everyone"

The garbage BS E$ecPN is still spouting out about not valuing strength of schedule is such nonsense. Bama lost to TWO 6-6 team. They didn't lose to two 11-1 teams. SOS has nothing to do with losing to TWO middle of the road teams.

Side note Oregon already has 3 wins against playoff teams (PSU, OSU, Boise) and UGA has 4 (Tennessee, Clemson, Texas x 2).

For my visual folks.

They got it mostly right imo. I don't understand how Clemson is 12 and SMU is 11 despite Clemson just beating them, but nbd.

I know they show them bracketed this way but I thought they rebracketed after first round based on results.

They do not rearrange based on seed. If Clemson wins, they will play Arizona St.

I agree, that's my biggest gripe and the only thing I think they really got wrong.

I probably would've switched PSU and Texas but the matchups would've been the same. Maybe switch ND and and OSU but I'm not mad at what it is and the IU vs ND matchup will cause a civil war in Indiana that will spill into the streets of Wrigleyville so I should probably board up my windows.

Actually, I think that Clemson ended up somewhere like 16 but got given an honorary 12 for seeding purposes.

This is correct, it goes by ranking and if an automatic qualifier is ranked below 12, then they are given the 12 seed.

Wild to think that if Clemson holds on against USC they would have been the 3 seed.

If Miami hadn't choked at Cuse and Clemson could've held on against South Carolina, you're looking at three ACC teams in the playoff.

Seeing the way this played out, I don't think anyone in the ACC has any room to complain anymore. We easily could've have had just as many teams in as the SEC. I think the ACC got a fairly good shake. The tv deal stinks but if there's a look in window and opportunity to negotiate something better/scheduling partnership with another league, I think the ACC is going to survive.

I kept complaining about cfb25 and having G5 ranked so highly but we'll here we are. Good Job EA.... okay that felt wrong I'm gonna go wash with a bristle pad to get that sink off.

I'll eat my hat now. I can't believe they did the right thing. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.

Yeah, I think a lot of people thought SMU losing would mean them out and Bama in.

Deposit whiskey, receive wisdom.

Exactly what I said in another thread, haha.

21st century QBs Undefeated vs UVA:
MV7, MV5, LT3, Grant Wells, Braxton Burmeister, Ryan Willis, Josh Jackson, Jerod Evans, Michael Brewer, Tyrod Taylor, Sean Glennon, and Grant Noel. That's right, UVA. You couldn't beat Grant Noel.

The biggest comedy on twitter so far are all the Bama fans saying something like this:

Lol like that is the reason they weren't in. They lost 3 SEC games! Couldn't even win their own conference. Bama fans are hilariously spoiled.

Bama didn't exactly have a tough OOC schedule. Only played 1 P4 OOC games, Wisconsin and they aren't even bowl eligible. Saban talked about their tough OOC schedule and teams they are playing in the future, no mention of this year's weak OOC.
SMU played 2 P4 OOC games, BYU and TCU and went 1-1.

Go Hokies!!

Saban is just building up a strawman with that line of thinking. They lost because they didn't have any good OOC wins and had three conference losses. Ironically had they scheduled a stronger OOC slate and won they may have had a more compelling argument.

And two of the conference losses were to 6-6 teams. No team should ever get an at large bid with three losses with two of those being to .500 teams.

Just think that beating Bama is the reason why two bad programs are going bowling.

Well his "solution"' was to play a 10 game conf schedule. Which of course will just further insulate the conferences and allow them to choose based on which league you play in rather than overall résumé. Transparently trying to pitch another change that only benefits the Big 10 and SEC.

Also if he's saying the problem is the SEC not getting enough respect relative to other leagues (ridiculous) how is fewer data points between conferences supposed help that? Of course no pushback from anyone else on set.

What's striking to me how obvious they are about being dishonest and pushing an agenda. If this was how the sport worked when I grew up watching, I would not still follow it today

The only remotely fair point that Saban made was that you could argue SMU - based on his factors- SOR and SOS was ranked too high going into the Clemson game. You COULD argue that intelligently without bias, etc. Point being a loss to Clemson would have knocked them out anyway. SMU did lose to the best OOC team they played, and did not play the top 4 teams in the ACC. If you want to punish them for that before the ACC CG, you could make a case.

But there's an asterisk to that BYU loss - it was before they switched to Jennings as full time QB

LOL- this is the fucking program whose first road game west of the Mississippi was like 15 years ago. This is the program that never fucking plays OOC road games unless forced. Fuck them. Also it's so SEC to pout and whine and threaten us with "well we aren't going to play tough OOC games now"- lol as if they do anyway. lol If they do play a P4 team it's either neutral site or home 90% of the fucking time. Joke.

The SEC is always like that.

Mercer, Louisiana Tech, UL Monroe, UMass (2x), Murray St, Maine, Wofford, UTEP.

Those are SEC opponents IN NOVEMBER so yeah when you add in their beginning of year schedule with power houses like Arkansas Pine Bluff, WKU, Alabama A&M, Tennessee Tech, Samford ect. I can see how the SEC should reevaluate the gauntlet of teams they play OOC.

(add if applicable) /s

I'm fine with Alabama playing a tougher schedule.

I'll believe it when I see it.

It is hilarious that the ACC was in the tank for Miami all season long and they still couldn't get them in the playoffs.

This is my legitimate most favorite thing from how it all shook out. ACC shilled so badly for Miami. Handed them 2 wins (that was absolutely targeting versus Cal, and you can't convince me otherwise) and Miami still said...Nah, we ain't bak yet.

Handed them 3 wins. Louisville game.

Miami O Lineman with Cards DL in a headlock on Restrepo 63 yard TD. No call.

ACC overturned Ward fumble returned for a TD that would have tied game at 45.

YUP

And even better Cam Ward isn't even on the Heisman radar anymore. The league did all that to prop up Miami and it all blew up in their face. And yet, the rest of the league is still good because we got 2 teams in the playoff, which means more money to everyone, and its not like it hurt us at VT that much because we still ended up in one of the higher profile bowls.

All of that manipulation just to have absolutely none of it matter in the end. They can't even cheat well.

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

Lol, especially more money to everyone since SMU (in the playoff) gets 0% of the conference revenue sharing for several years.

I think they get playoff revenue since they made it. They get 0 tv money.

I love karma coming around and cutting Miami out of the CFP, but at the same time it also kinda pisses me off even more that they screwed us for nothing. Either way, Miami continues to be the only ACC team in which my hatred burns as bright as UVA.

If you play it, they will win.

Its been 21 seasons now... ZERO ACC titles for the Canes. LMFAO. You hate to see it.

But they bak!!!

If you play it, they will win.

I actually don't even really harbor that much rivalry hatred for UVA anymore. It's just become beating up on your little brother every year at this point. The Miami game was probably the most passionate I was for any game this season. I feel like that is our true rival and measuring stick in football.

Pry and Co. holding the Commonwealth Cup during signing day and branding ourselves as the flagship VA school to recruits to me is sort of missing the mark. Most top VA recruits don't care and don't view UVA vs VT as a big deal, and would rather just go out of state to a program like PSU, Clemson, etc. and compete for a playoff bid. Beating our chest after thumping UVA is getting a little old honestly. Miami needs to be the benchmark.

I definitely agree another UVA win is nothing to beat our chest about. And I will confess my hate for Miami has likely even surpassed that of UVA. But may my hatred of the Hoos never wane. Miami's just hitting new levels.

If you play it, they will win.

Has anyone done a wellness check on Paul Finebaum? No? Ok I'm cool with that

Pawl is gonna be fine. Sad/Angry Alabama and Auburn fans are his most lucrative raw materials. This is an engagement diamond mine.

FUCK Bama. The more they complain, the better I like their exclusion.

A decade on TKP and it's been time well spent.

It will never happen, but I would love for anOSU to come forward and say that due to the disrespectful way our players were involved in a brawl on the field, they are forfeiting their right to participate in a bowl this year. Imagine the chaos that would cause.

Would be a way for Alabama to get in.
