Andy,

Is the Richmond kicker, Remington Hinshaw still transferring to Virginia Tech?
I remember it was announced at the same time Wade Hansen was transferring.

VHokie

He's not on the roster and Hansen is, so I'd assume not. But it's not an officially updated spring roster yet. I'm guessing we'll get the answer here in a day or two.

I take it back. Hinshaw is indeed on the roster up on Beamerball right now.

Thanks Andy!
What about kickoff specialist Joey Slye?

VHokie

Slye is still finishing up school. He should be there for Fall camp.

Andy,

Has there been a Spring Football schedule handed out yet or maybe a program with what days things will be happening. I know I can't be the only one wanting to see what's going on so I can plan my days.

Keyserling left? I must have missed or forgotten something.

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

We don't love dem Hoos.

Andy, thanks for all the stats.
A couple observations:
1. Branthover vs Ludwig average distance, # of TBs, and opposing team average start indicates that Ludwig kicks it higher with about the same distance, giving the coverage team more time to get down field (a large 8 yd difference). He gets some kicks with the wind with altitude accounting for the 10 more TBs.
2. AJ Hughes improvement of 3.5 yards and his 22 punts > 50 yds is just incredible from Freshman to Sophomore years . This guys is a true asset (we already knew this from the Miami game last year, right). Andy, if you could include our opposition punt return average vs national rankings we'd understand if punt coverage is an issue or if it improved also over last 2 years, helping contribute to Hughes #s.
3. Punt return average of 5.3 yds seems very pedestrian. Where were we nationally? That has to improve.
4. Did we return any punts or kickoffs for TDs last year? No stats there, so I assume no (can't remember). If no, is that the first year in how long we have that unfortunate stat?

As Andy states, this 1/3rd of our game has to improve in a lot of places. I can see we could have been the ACC Coastal Champion if we had only improved on Special Teams last year. That's a huge impact to our season result and end of season Mojo.

I think Santamaria will bring the foot in the fall to compete for the Field Goal kicker position. He'll need ice in his veins - which may be too much to ask of a freshman.

The only TD we scored in a kickoff/punt return situation in 2013 was an 11 yard return by Derek DiNardo after Kyle Fuller blocked a punt against Marshall:

00:00:03–00:00:30

Our best kick return was an 88 yarder by Demetri Knowles to the 12 against Maryland:

00:12:14–00:12:34

Our best punt return was a 43 yarder by Kyshoen Jarrett against Alabama:

00:19:34–00:19:51

I can't remember, was that a face mask on the Alabama return too?

This is going to be great for the ACC.

As long as we have a kicker not kicked off/suspended from the team, I'll be happy.
