Debated posting this, as it does discuss politics, but there is significant interest here in the Commanders returning to RFK Stadium, that I thought this might be appropriate.
A provision to transfer the land that is the site of the old RFK Stadium from the federal government to the District of Columbia is included in Congress' short-term spending bill, which lawmakers are racing to pass.

This is only the first step, getting the provision into the proposed Continuing Resolution, but it's a start.

This is the way. Bring the Skins back to RFK (a rebuilt version please).
Only ever went to FedEx for the Bosie St game. It was bad enough my family swore never to go back there again. Besides being a shit experience for the fans, I'm also convinced FedEx field ruined RG3's nfl career.
I sat 7 rows back on the same yard line that Adrian Peterson tore his ACL. I have a picture of him coming out of the huddle the play he did it.
That turf is where knees go to die
Dan Snyder - among other things- was a cheap bastard and spent the least he could on everything. He sat in a cherry wood skybox straight out of the ritz carlton while the stadium was crumbling and the media box had limited views of the field. He used the grounds crew from RFK on the cheap.
I still think that even if this gets through all the wickets, DC will have to sweeten the pot significantly to convince the ownership group. In this scenario, the team wouldn't own the stadium or parking and would not get the revenue for non-football events. That was a big issue with Fedex or whatever the new name is.
Guess we will see how it plays out. They have to make it a dome or retractable roof though to make ut year round use.
They're also limited in how much they can expand for a bigger stadium and more parking and things like that because of the golf course right there that is a historical landmark. That was another part of the reason they moved out of DC, Jack Kent Cook wanted to build a bigger stadium and couldn't. If they're reasonable about it, they can probably do it (the Vikings built US Bank stadium on the same site as the Metrodome)
They would also desperately need to improve driving access. Sure the metro is there but that part of 295 is not built for the sheer volume of people who drive through it right now. I can't imagine what it would be with 50,000+ people arriving/leaving at generally the same time
One option for more parking would be bulldozing the soccer complex next to it. That was the DC United academy/practice field but they moved the Academy to Loudoun FC. Do not believe DC United still practices there. It's still not enough so most likely they would need to build garages in addition to the stadium.
those soccer fields are located on former RFK parking lots. If a new stadium gets built, some or all of those will have to get converted back to parking
The NFL- the untouchable behemoth that takes your money for 1. Cable or streaming local channels on Sunday. 2. Some type of EPSN package for Monday night. 3. Amazon subscription for thursday nights 4. NFL network package to see the brilliant London and German games 5. Netflix subscription to watch late season and playoff games... and 6. In your lifetime the Super Bowl will be pay per view- and one of them likely not played in the United States. The point I am making is that pesky fucking soccer fields and anything else really won't stand in their way if the Redskins want to build a 2.5 billion dollar retractable roof stadium at RFK.
This is why crackstreams exists.
Parking is not an issue anymore. Just have no fucking parking and let the fans figure it out. That is seriously the new thing with stadiums. The fans will figure out how to get there. The days of arrowheads million acre parking lot are over. There is basically ZERO on site parking for the raiders now or sofi.
This is where Baltimore was so smart with
Ravens StadiumM&T Bank Stadium, building onto the existing Camden yards infrastructure and being able to share the parking lots solved so many problems right away.Edit: I have called it Ravens stadium since they built it and it's become engrained in my mind lol.
And a train station in the parking lot.
That doesn't go southbound after 7pm on weekdays.... so fuck off orioles fans....
How's mass transit at Chase Field? ;^)
Awful. Mass trans in Phoenix is basically non existent. This is a drive your car city.
Agreed. Had to use the Jaguars that drove themselves to get around.
Kim and Kanye's daughter's stadium.
It's named after my credit union now, which has focused on growth recently (as evidenced by buying naming rights to an NFL stadium) at, in my opinion, the expense of their existing customers. It was disappointing to see them spend that kind of money instead of improving their services. But, I guess that's the nature of commerce these days. Don't get me started on Ticketmaster. However you feel about their music, Eddie Vedder was right.
Harris should demand the Nats deal.... yeah DC owns the stadium, but he gets all of the parking, concessions, signage, etc. It's s very owner friendly-not city friendly deal
Nationals as of now own the majority of the parking as it's all Lerner properties other than the garage attached to the stadium.
Not so fast, my friend.
Yeah. =^/
Well President elect Elon Musk didn't want it to pass so he made sure it didnt
Because he, and idiots like him, are convinced the bill would pay for the new stadium with federal money...which of course is nonsense.
A bit of volatility in the past few days, but the Senate passed the D.C. Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium Campus Revitalization Act by unanimous consent at around 0115 this morning. Since the House passed the standalone bill previously in February, it's now on the President's desk. Looks like this is a go.
