Hokies wrestling has a big one coming up Thursday night in Oklahoma. Matchups still to be determined but if healthy I expect all the top guys for this one.

OKST has destroyed everybody so far. 30+ to single digits. Includes Oklahoma (#19), Wyoming (#27), Arizona St (#20)
Looks like they also won Cliff Keen in dominating fashion. We were 4th in team standings.
We were 4th at Cliff Keen but did not wrestle in two weight classes and did not have our top wrestler in three other weight classes.
Ok St had all their top guys and entered every weight.
Did the match get pushed back from Thursday night?

If the Hokies can hold serve with their higher seeded wrestlers and are able to pull off an upset, most likely at 174, they should be able to eek out a tie in straight up matches, less all potential bonus points.

Latona wrestled a pretty good match there, was the aggressor for the first 2 periods but just couldn't finish. That was an impressive major because the match felt much closer than that.
This match is showing me just how far we actually are from contending for a national title.
Especially considering OK State won't be close to Penn State in May

The gap between #1 and #2 is vast, the gap between #5 and #6 is vast, but closer.
Wrestling is just very unbalanced.
Our highest ranked team in any sport is probably further away from winning a national title than most of our teams.
Sometimes I just wonder why we do the things we do. Seems like we keep putting our time and energy into fruitless ventures.
Honestly this is why I am OK with the school focusing on academics. There is actual impact to be made in thousands of students lives (and the workforce they go into) by investing in things like labs and research that has a much better return than lighting money on fire chasing athletic glory.
Correct. We have an elite wrestling coach and always have a few elite guys. The problem is the Penn States, Iowa States - insert several teams- because VT sports- have much more depth. So when you get to the natty finals- which is not a dual meet, the team with the most top guys, wins. That is never going to be us in wrestling until we get a dedicated, better regional facility/training ground - like Penn State... and whit offers more than a COLA raise to the coach. Also since we are VT- fucking NC State, Maryland etc will pick us off in any given year.
