6 transfers in under 36 hours.
Yeah these guys have to know something on the OL and DC hires that the public doesn't. That's a ton of very quality commits in a short period of time for a program with coaching vacancies. Very encouraging.
I'm choosing to read it as- we have our guys locked in, and they've given the okay to let the recruits know, but they're still in the hunt for the natty and they don't want to go public with it yet and have it become a distraction for their current teams/players
Soooo...Poindexter for DC. Who for OL?
Based on the portal commits we've hired a second RBs coach and passed on the OL altogether.
Saw on some other boards/X that supposedly some VT staff have started following Matt Moore on X. Same allegedly with at least one possibly more of our new transfer commits following Dex. Who knows with social media detective work though lol.
Andy Bitter and David Cunningham at TSL are also now following Dex.
It's happening. Done deal. Start celebrating. Twitter never lies.
But my buddy that reads Twitter tea leaves assured me yesterday that the DC was going to be Geoff Collins.

Seriously, I don't want anyone that has a 70 Burger scored on them, much less with the talent disparity between UNC and JMU. I don't think he's going to come to Tech and magically become his 2016 self and anyone that does is fooling themselves.
2 very good football rules that people never follow. 1. Don't draft a QB that sucked in college. Don't. ( Levis, Tribisky, Richardson) sucked. Watch them against good teams - suck. 2. Don't hire a defensive coordinator (Collins) that sucks. Sucks. Don't do it Pry. Don't. UNCs defense sucked and were softer than ours.
Hey, JMU scored 53 of their 70 points in the first half, so at least he can make adjustments at the half...
Collins ain't got no good followers, PAWWWWWWWL.
If it does end up being Poindexter - how do we feel? One of my biggest concerns with the Pry regime when it was first announced was a first-time HC with two first-time Coordinators. Hiring Poindexter as DC will be hiring another experimental first-time coordinator. Is Pry willing to bet his job on it on this first-timer panning out?NEVER MIND - I posted a question without looking enough into Poindexter's history to realize that he has DC experience.
I feel a lot better about him than Collins. I don't really have an opinion on Quinn. I wished we would've gotten Dex instead of Marve from the get-go and worked any kinks out these last few years.
The Collin's thing was a joke right? There's no actual smoke there is there?
I was joking about it, but I've talked to a couple friends that thought it was really happening.
That's terrifying.
I cannot have a year of my GT family trolling me because we were stupid enough to hire Collins.
Also, Pry will def be fired if he hires Geoff. I've never seen a team more finesse and less physical than a Geoff GT team.
He's kind of been on a similar track as Pry. DC at a lower level (UConn for 3 years), then co-DC for a while at lower P5 program (Purdue), then big P5 program. He's seen how things can and can't be successful at various levels and has familiarity with Pry's system and has connections in VA. To me this is a much lower risk compared to hiring Marve who had never been a DC before besides "defensive run game coordinator" for one season.
My bad - didn't look far enough into his past roles, didn't catch that he has some lower level DC history.
Changes my perspective
"Hiring Poindexter as DC will be hiring another experimental first-time coordinator"- the definition of insanity
He's not a first time Defensive Coordinator. Tons more experience than Marve
Has lot of Co-DC @ B1G programs on his resume and a couple years as DC @ UConn
UVA (2003 - 2013): RBs , DB's, ST, Safeties
Connecticut (2014β2016): Defensive coordinator & safeties coach
Purdue (2017β2020): Co-defensive coordinator & safeties coach
Penn State (2021βpresent): Co-defensive coordinator & safeties coach
Yeah, I guess disregard my question - I didn't look into his history enough and didn't realize he has DC experience..
"having DC experience" immediately qualified everyone on TKP........................................................................
yeah, and you are better/tougher for it, damn it
not only am i a more effective person, i am also more efficient
Welcome Home!
Commits landing
Let's go
Welcome home indeed. Open arms. Very happy to add him to the exclusive team which is Hokie Nation.
Next question is, how many years of eligibility are we talking about?
Has played two....so nine? Right? That's what we are doing now correct?
But I think two.
Position of need!
There's a lot to complain about with pride, but when it comes to addressing a position you need in the off-season he usually goes out and gets it done.
I like what you're saying, but I would really love to see a couple of OL road-graders join the fray.
It's really the only position that pry hasn't been able to address in a single off-season (or at all really).
To be fair, no one has really been able to do this. Our real problem is that high school recruiting for the offensive line has been nonexistent. And that's why Ron crook was fired.
But to show you how bad it is across all of College football, Braelin Moore was the highest rated interior offensive lineman in the portal.
Good to have a Flowers back at Tech.
I'm liking the way this is shaping up, and the implications that some good stuff is in the works.
