Any rumors circulating as to who Buzz will bring on as assistants? I've heard the name Jerry Wainwright floating around, but I don't know how much truth there is to that.

Wainwright is one of his current assistants. I would expect to see Scott Monarch get a shot. Not sure Brad Autry will come. Per my writeup I also want his other two staff members to come with as well.
Any idea how serious Monarch's recruiting violation at MU was? Marquette fired him because of it, but I don't know the whole story. I can't imagine it was anything very serious - did the NCAA do anything or just accept Marquette's self-imposed punishment?
The other article said it was a secondary violation.
A recruit left after a visit and took some Marquette gear with them and same recruit had some travel expenses paid. I think I read in another article it was cab fare to the airport. I wouldn't be surprised to see Buzz hire Scott Monarch at Tech
So nothing of significance. I think our compliance people are on top of things, so something like this wouldn't (hopefully) happen at VT. Thanks for the info. I haven't had time to read up on a lot of these side stories.
That is correct. The recruit took a t-shirt and was given enough money so he could get to the airport. Marquette self reported it, as well. It's the type of violation that requires context, and that reasonable people would say - 'yeah, you're not supposed to do that, but it's nothing...'
I'd have no problem with Monarch coming on Buzz' staff, and I'm old school about that type of thing.
Maybe a sign of things to come?

I would have rather seen Wainwright follow Buzz here. He is the one with the big time Virginia connections already due to his past coaching stops. Him and the Director of Basketball Operations. Chew is supposedly a top recruiter but I haven't really found much that makes me go Wow on Autry.
I read an article on Wainwright where he emphasized he was going to stay at Marquette until the coaching transition was complete. He didn't say he would stay longer, but he didn't comment on VT, either. It would not have been prudent to do so, as it was evident he wanted to help in the transition. Had he mentioned VT, he would not have that opportunity. He might still come, but Buzz has a personal relationship with Boo Williams, so Wainwright wasn't the sole connection to Va, at least.
I know but I worry that it limits us to a sole connection to an AAU program to start out and to lose that kind of local connections between Wainwright and Jeff Reynolds although they have now pulled down Jeff Reynolds information as well so he may also be on the move.
Buzz is probably explaining that Blacksburg is in southWESTERN Virginia, not southern WEST Virginia. I know, cheap shot - but hey, they're (sort of) a rival and he danced NEAR their logo.
Wainwright might come eventually. At 67, though, he might decide to stay and quasi-retire. I'd prefer to quasi-retire somewhere warmer, but to each their own.
