Not surprising considering Trace McSorley also from Briar Woods will be in State College starting this fall.
Garrett Taylor recently visited Michigan and committed yesterday and Polk recently visited Penn State and of course now committed. Both schools were considered to be underdogs before Taylor and Polk visited. One visit can change everything I guess.
We were never going to get Garrett Taylor anyways. I don't think losing out on Polk is that big of a deal.
Yeah I know but Taylor was considered a Stanford lock and one visit changed all of that. Polk wasn't really considering Penn State seriously before he visited. It's just interesting to see how quickly these kids change their minds.
Garrett Taylor wanted to go to a USNWR Top 25 school. He really wanted an offer from Michigan or Notre Dame because those are the only two "football schools" that fit that criteria. He was a considered a Stanford lock because UM didn't show any interest until now.
I wasn't surprised at all he committed early. I'll put it this way: If Oregon was a USNWR Top 25 school, he would have committed there in a heartbeat. It was cut-and-dry with him.
This recruiting year could be a struggle. Getting close to the end of Beamers tenure, the harder it will be to sell the vision if the future.
yeah, but, BATTLE AT BRISTOL!!!!
You'll be surprised.
I don't think that's true at all. Since everyone presumes that Bud is the "coach-in-waiting", I think most recruits believe if beamer retires while they're playing there, bud would be the new head coach.
It hasn't been my experience that everyone presumes that (Bud is hciw).
Whit's hiring of Buzz Williams could be foreshadowing of how the next coach transition will happen.
It's as uncertain as ever right now.
We never really had a shot with Taylor, we would have taken Polk but there are better out there we are in on! I may get down voted by saying this but, we really need a younger HC that can relate to these kids. Don't get me wrong Beamer has brought us from nothing to being one of the best in the ACC, and I like Beamer. But I just wonder when he meets with these kids if he can relate to them like Moorehead and little Beamer can. When Beamer does decide to call it quits, I expect Babcock to go aggressively after one of the best young coaches out there.
Brandon Polk really liked VT, he was offered his sophomore year by VT and I heard about him from my cousin who's one of his friends. Trace McSorley being at Penn State probably helped them a lot.
He would've fit a need as a fast slot WR especially since it looks like VT has missed the boat on Jalen Christian.
Welp...next.
Its March, there is snow on the ground, we haven't even had the spring game, which these guys are probably invited to, so until the NCAA passes an early signing period I will consider these guys leans to the schools right now. Too many things can change between now and next Feb. They both have another season of football to play, they have additional official visits. They have opportunities for a ton of unofficial visits. One thing this just confirms is that our coaches really need to make some headway into the Loudoun County recruiting. Too many good recruits are not coming to Tech from this area. Remember with Polk that they have Coach Choppin Wood and Torrian Gray working on him so with those two on the job I will let things play out.
With the way Loudon County has grown in the past decade, it's almost a stretch to consider in Virginia.
It's more like DC and southern MD than VA.
Eh. It's just as much Virginia as Fairfax, Prince William, Alexandria, Arlington etc.
There's just not a lot of H.S. history/tradition there with the population growth over the last decade, so its easier for out of state schools to make inroads there - for now.
We basically have two WR slots to fill for 2015 - there will be lots more for AM to evaluate before Signing Day.
Yep might only take 1.
It's pretty apparent and pretty well known across multiple sites that Amo is looking for 1-2 WRs in this class .. and considering the fact that this past class is chock full of shorter slot receivers, he's looking for 1-2 bigguns. Seems the same kind of thing happened with Jalen Christian ... depth chart doesn't look good, he's a smaller slot type, and he wants to play WR (VT would've taken him at DB in a second). It's all good. WR is not a huge need. Felton Davis looks like he's near the top of the want list.
Losing on other prospects at this point (other than WRs and DBs) would be much more of a sting. If we can't pull Austin Clark from an hour up the road, that will hurt.
If we can't pull at least 3-4 4+ start caliber defensive lineman, that will hurt.
But I think at this point -- both of those will happen.
