Get it started with Ovi breaking another record. Has now scored on the most goalies in NHL history breaking Jaromir Jagr's record of 178 goalies. He is now 21 goals away from breaking Gretzky's goals scored record.
Alex Ovechkin has surpassed Jaromir Jagr for the most goaltenders scored on in NHL history, now totaling 179 after scoring his first career goal against Leevi Merilainen tonight. pic.twitter.com/e5rZwPGfyXโ Capitals PR (@CapitalsPR) January 17, 2025
Surely, only a crazy person would comb through 20 years of footage to find all 179 clips of Alex Ovechkin scoring for the fir-"Don't call me Shirley" pic.twitter.com/wNVYg04G3Uโ Washington Capitals (@Capitals) January 17, 2025

Caps being 1st in the NHL wasn't on my bingo card but I'm here for it
๐คฎthe crapitals
Won again tonight.
Not a crapitals fan, but am a Commanders fan and boy am I not used to seeing them win.

Tonight was magnificent!!!
Same, I was not prepared for this
Today's NHL drama is McDavid going from untouchable golden boy to getting called on the carpet for head shots after three in the last four games.
Well this has been a whirlwind 24 hours as a Canes fan.
Can't spell Canes without Necas, but also Finns for the win!
Really hope they extend Rantanen ASAP, maybe even before the DC announcement...
Rant wants $14M a season. Not sure Canes have the space for that right now. Avs reportedly trying to get Crosby so Necas may move again before it's over.
The Canes will have around $35m in cap space this summer, expecting a few prospects to come up on ELCs, especially on defense where we are very excited for an uberprospect in Nikishin coming in from the KHL.
We can sign Rants and the ones we expect to bring back and still have around $15m in space left to fill out our depth. There is plenty of room to get him signed as well as potentially going after another bigger name or 2 in FA.
Can't see the name Rantanen without thinking about Pierre McGuire trying to announce his names
I just found out their GM is a former poster on Broad Street Hockey. I love Danny B, but it's time to #BringTulskyHome
Lol I've been able to talk to him a few times during games this year. Nice guy, very approachable, but you can tell right away he's a stats guy.
And honestly, the Flyers really fucked up with the Brindy trade back in the day. Between him, Justin Williams and Tulsky, the Canes team is very much what the Flyers should be, culturally and competitively
All the more reason to bring him home, honestly. I want to care about hockey again sometime in my life
Anybody watching 4 Nations? This is so much better than an All-Star Game
USA really ran away with it in the 3rd last night. Kind of the opposite of Canada's fast start on Wednesday night.
Trade deadline today at 3 EST. What moves are you keeping an eye on?
Curious why Rantanen was willing to negotiate with Dallas and not Carolina
Going to be interested to see how Nelson does in Colorado
Caps pickup of Beauvellier is odd and not sure I see the fit
Trade deadline makes it all the more clear how dysfunctional things are in Boston right now.
Did not see Cozens getting dealt by Buffalo happening
Cause he's a selfish baby bitch who got his feefees hurt when he was traded and sulked the better part of 2 months instead of manning up and doing his job.
go Stars
As a Canes fan not the best to see him leave and as Alum alluded too, not give 100% while he was in Raleigh, but glad that Rantanen will either be a huge pain to the Avs or the Avs dominate him for the next 8 years.
Actually now coming out that his golddigger girlfriend didn't want to live in Raleigh, and that's why he wouldn't counter the Canes offer.
And he let her unhappiness cause issues in the lockerroom. What a swell couple they are.
Well I know you didn't like my comment, but with everything that has happened with my Mavs this last month and the fucking Adelson/Dumonts just trying to completely destroy the franchise and spit in the fans faces (just announced a huge season ticket increase too, seriously, fuck them) the Stars and the potential for a run at the Cup is all I have right now.
Marchand to Miami for a second round pick in 2027 that could maybe become a first rounder in 2028.
Since it wasn't a sign and trade that's a decent return
Overchkin just tied Gretsky's record - crazy!
Pretty cool that Ovi refused to go on the ice with the empty net. He knows he can't break the record that way.
Once they went up 2 I was kind of hoping the Caps would pull their goalie with the lead to give him a chance at the hatty to break the record, would have been pretty incredible.
I would expect lots of passing from Ovi on Sunday and then they push hard for him to break the record at home next week.
I went, it was insane atmosphere. When het hit the goalies stick in the 3rd everyone started booing the goalie. It's insane that he got the record AND did it in 1 fewer games. I never dreamed that record would be touched, it was amazing to see it in person.
Being married to a woman from Edmonton, I am obliged to just say ...

Ovechkin breaks all time goals scored record.
He is third in the league in scoring after missing 20% of the games with broken leg. Just incredible
He broke the record in the same number of games Gretzky set it in. So he score 1 more goal in same number of games.
Time for playoff hockey! Let's go caps!
BOGO entrees at Chipotle today if you wear a hockey sweater https://newsroom.chipotle.com/2025-04-16-CHIPOTLES-HOCKEY-JERSEY-BOGO-OF...
Anyone headed to Cancun, keep an eye out for Tom Wilson.
Canes outplayed tonight, but Freddie and pucks on net bailed them out.
Svechnikov is actively turning into the 2nd overall pick we thought he would be. Dominant in these playoffs so far.
Oh, and Nikishin had a pretty damn good game for someone making his NHL debut in the playoffs a month after playing in Russia.
Most exciting part about this year for the Canes is that we have a ridiculous amount of cap space with very few holes to fill.
Welp... Canes are getting exposed as the early 1990s Bills/2004-2011 Virginia Tech Football and/or the Panthers are a dynasty in their way.
Gonna try and enjoy the Canes success over 90% of the NHL, but they need to take a long look in the mirror and hopefully retool to take the next step.
Don't think Florida will fall off anytime soon.
They did the "tough" thing and retooled from a regular season juggernaut to a postseason one and Canes need to try and do the same.
Things are not looking good for my Stars right now. They have only played one good period in the entire series so far.
A suburban team that 90% of people on the street would think was a lacrosse team if you said their name is going to win back to back Stanley Cups.
