I think Dough Gottlieb(someone on ESPN Radio) talked about this on his show like a year ago. There are some rivals you want to win so it makes the rivalry more interesting and competitive(ie they go 11-0 and you give them their one loss) then there is your true rival who you hope goes 0-12 and everyone stomps them into the ground. That is UVa for us...in every-sport.
Side-note: My one friend stuck to his guns and in a money bracket picked UVa to lose first round.

I am pulling for them to get as close as they can and then be decimated in the worst one-sided loss ever seen in the history of college basketball, quickly followed by substantiated rumors of recruiting violations that make UNCheat look like a nunnery. At which point Coach Bennett will resign in humilitation and the NCAA will impose the death sentence to all of uva athletics. Then the major donors and the state will withhold funds causing uva to wither on the vine like a bunch of dehydrated wild grapes.
So, yes.....I am pulling for them.

I like watching their hoops team play ball. They rebound, play D, execute bounce passes, and run nice plays out of half court sets. It's like watching college basketball back when the sport was good and I'm jealous of it. They have sucked so much the last decade it doesn't bother me if they win some games. They still have London and are a joke at football. Football is the sport that matters to me and I would never root for them to compete in football.
I will never root for them, but Bennett is one hell of a coach and them boys can flat play. I hope they lose, but I definitely enjoy watching them.

Not sure how this can be down-voted. Anyone that knows the game knows that Bennett is an excellent coach and is doing a lot with the talent (or lack thereof) that he has to work with.
I am OK with them winning a few more games, especially given how poorly the ACC has represented in the tourney thus far. But I absolutely DO NOT want them winning the whole thing.
But really, as it relates to basketball, I am already in the 2014-2015 season. And, I am seeing us beating them in basketball next year when BOTH teams are ranked. I can already feel the Cassell shaking for that one.
Hopefully, in the near future, we're exactly like Florida, Michigan, Ohio State, UCLA, and a few other teams that have big-time teams in both revenue sports year in and year out. #WHITFRANKBUZZWIN

Sparty has looked like the best team in the tournament so far. If they continue playing like they have so far I look forward to LOLUVAs heartbreak.

I always hope UVa loses. In the last couple of decades, though, when they play Duke in basketball, I am presented a conundrum. Both are teams I want to lose every game. Every...game. My solution is to ignore the game until completion, then take joy in the loss by one of them, not the win by the other.

There was a UVA fan on the Sabre who thought it would be a good idea for Bennett to join CBS for the FF and he would definitely be better than Buzz. Even if he does join them, there is no chance he does better than Buzz.

Someone said on another VT site that if Bo Ryan retires after the season Bennett will be his most likely replacement.
