Sounds like Miami is in agreement with Duke assistant Jai Lucas on becoming it's next head coach.
Virginia has narrowed its list to Shaka Smart at Marquette and long time former Hokies assistant Ryan Odom currently at VCU. Neither would be good news for the Hokies.
Florida State is still just getting started on its search so no names have emerged as finalists. Their long list has Luke Loucks (an alum), Charlton Young(former asst), Sam Cassell(alum and asst Boston Celtics), Dennis Gates(former asst at FSU), Bryan Hodgson(HC Ark St), Bucky McMillan(HC Samson), Mike Morell(HC UNC-A), Rick Pitino(HC NM), and Takayo Siddle (HC at UNC-W). Only one I wouldn't want their is Sam Cassell. He would make them into a powerhouse in my opinion.

That Milwaukee bucks team with Sam Cassell and Ray Allen was one of my favorites. Also enjoyed watching Cassell play with KG in Minnesota.
One day when I have more free time I'll start following the NBA again.
Anyways, sorry for derailing the thread.
Why would Shaka leave Marquette for UVA? Serious question
instead of coming to VT?
Shaka has been dead for almost 200 years.
I'm not interested in Shaka as a coach. Merely commenting on the fact that Marquette has been a feeder school for VT ball coaches.
How's Marquette's football teams, asking for a friend? /s
The Chicago Bears are pretty bad.
He woulda killed everyone in the ACC
Wasn't that when the walls fell?
Would he be coming back with the iklwa or assegai?
Asking for a friend
The Romans vote for the iklwa.
Because when the ACC implodes in a year or 2, the Big Ten will probably trip over themselves to add UVa, and he'll be set for the rest of his life.
Bingo.
Add Ben McCollum to the potential list at UVA. Head coach at Drake. They are 27-3 this season. Won four D2 National Titles at Northwest Missouri State.
Odom is not getting the UVA job, and anyone on that list will be much less annoying /head ache than Leonard Hamilton... he was a great coach that could recruit 6'09 nba types like I drink beer. ANYONE else is better for us.
UVA finalizing agreement to hire Ryan Odom as it's next head coach
Wasn't he at Virginia Tech? How does this impact us?
He was an assistant at Tech from 2003-2010. Has a wealth of experience in our region with stints at UNC Ashville, UMBC, American, Charlotte, and VCU.
Has had a .618 or higher winning percentage at all his stops as HC outside of the year he took over Charlotte mid-season. At VCU the last two years they went 52-21. (.712 %)
The man can coach and given a healthy NIL will have UVA in top of ACC consistently, otherwise, not good for us.
It's good for the ACC to have good coaches to up the competition. The ACC just got trounced in the tourney and we need more good programs. Would VT rather have Cuse or NC State get back to their historic levels, probably but right now we need all the help we can get as a conference. We need big time teams playing in prime time. If UVA sucks then we will never have a ranked VT vs UVA prime time game. So it while it sucks they might be good again, it want to ruin their season by beating them in basketball
Wonder how long NCSU's coach lasts. Have a friend who coached one of the current freshman there who gets a decent amount of minutes if not starts. Says he hates it and is looking to transfer. Said a lot of the players do not like the coach.
Said VT is one of the spots he's looking at.
Since Keatts doesn't coach at VT, he took a random suck ass team to the final fucking four last year. He's fine.
I am laughing that his contract took him to an automatic extension when the AD wanted to can his ass.
It's just me, but I'd rather my shit coach win 20 games in 20 days with a fat 6th year center and get to a final four, vs. my shit coach being in the NIT. It would be cool to root for the Hokies in the Final Four- once.
You mean again. We have been able to root for the Hokies in the final four already.
nOBoDy CaRes AbOuT WoMEn'S SpoRtS
I remember it well. Of all of the 130 teams we could play, we draw fucking scum Kim Mulkey and her 12 illegal players who started their hack a shaq nonsense with 8 minutes left, in a game we controlled throughout. Of ALL of the fucking teams we draw that scum bitch. Of course we did.
Well you seem to be in a good mood.
Don't know how to embed from mobile.
But he's out.

He was likely gone last year until they went on the once-in-a-lifetime run that auto extended his contract by 2 years. Year later, $7M to get rid of him. lmao
"on the once-in-a-lifetime run" - fucking bingo. They fucking sucked. Tony Bennett gave them a game in the ACC T or they would have been home. Fuck random NC State team
There was this in the Augusta Free Press regarding the UVA search. Interesting because at least Odom and McCollum are near locks for the NCAA Tournament so UVA would essentially be asking them to walk away before the Tourney.
We all know you can't hire someone that is "still coaching".
They are pointing to what Miami did by getting the Duke Assistant to sign to be at Miami by March 10th. The key word there is assistant which none of UVAs candidates are. Should be interesting to see if they are so hung up on the date that they go further down their list until they get a yes. I for one hope they do and it sets them back five years.
Having the portal open March 24 shows how truly out of touch the NCAA really is.
Not waiting until after the championship game would be like opening the football portal before the playoffs and bowls concluded - oh, wait.....
Yea, that's so bizzare. I hate when the CFB transfer portal opens in December, but I get it: Early/mid-December is when fall semester ends at most schools, so (if you assume that these kids are actually students) they leave their current program right after the semester ends.
What's going on with Basketball? Spring Break portaling?
No surprise, lack of foresight by the people "in charge"
I mean, I think it's surprising. This isn't lack of foresight; it flat out doesn't make sense (to me at least)
By the time the window opens 80% of teams are done playing. There are exceptions that allow players that are still playing an extended portal window. The window is also 30 days by which point everyone playing still has over two weeks of the window.
That's works for the players, but coaches get left having to decide whether to play kids that have entered the portal prior to their season being done. Especially the mid-major players looking to find a spot to move up.
FSU search is over. They hired Luke Loucks. He is an FSU Alum and was an assistant coach for the Sacramento Kings.
Did a 180.. 34 years old never a head coach- Hamilton was the opposite and old school.
NC State early frontrunners appear to be McNeese State's Will Wade and Tennessee's associate head coach in former beloved Wolfpack guard Justin Gainey.
I just don't buy these names. Gainey has never been a Head whistle and while Wade is a winner, he did real well at VCU, was ok at LSU and has done wonders for McNeese State but received a 10-game suspension and a two-year show-cause order from the NCAA's Independent Accountability Resolution Panel for multiple rules violations related to LSU's recruiting violations. So he cheated and still didn't deliver the goods at LSU.
Sounds like Will Wade has told NC State he isn't interested. Makes me think he must have something bigger lined up.
I was going to say...I wouldn't be surprised if Wade big-dogs NCSU as after beating Clemson his star has to be white-hot.
From my memory, most of his indescretions were related to player payment schemes...he was the "strong ass offer," wasn't he?
That's easy to sweep under the rug at this point--its part and parcel of being a Coach at this point.
Cheating is a very relative term in modern College Sports.
Maybe Will Wade was just ahead of his time...or maybe College sports are going backwards. My money is on the latter.
