2025 NFL Combine

Tuten went off at the combine.

Peebles and APR had noteworthy performances too

For comparison

On APR overall against Edge, 40 yard dash 5th, 1st fastest to ten yards, 5th in broad Jump, 6th in the Vertical

Peebles was 4th in 40 yard, tied for 5th in 10 yard, 7th in vertical, don't see Broad jump

Saw conflicting data on his 40. They run two attempts. His first was a 4.80 which would be best time for DTs, second run was 4.95 which is 4th.

4.34 official

We had the fastest RB and the 3rd fastest WR at the combine, both were in the top 10 overall.

Felton and Strong both with a 4.5.

Felton's speed and size should get him a mid to late round flier

Lane and tuten looking fast.....and we were a .500 team lmao

Based on our o line play, we were a .500 team because we had players like tuten and lane. They propped up what would have been an abysmal offense.

Tuten is a beast. And I'm glad he is a HOKIE!!!

I seldom speak to loluva grads, but when I do, I tell them I want large fries.

And here I was hoping the Browns could steal Tuten and Peebles in the 3 and 4th round. Not anymore!

Plan for the worst and hope for the best, not the other way around.

Damn man, not sure why you'd want to do that to our Hokie Bros. They deserve better!

I would love the Cowboys taking Tuten or Jeanty at 12.

Jeanty struggled against better teams. Why do you think he would succeed at Dallas?

I'd rather have tuten for O&M reasons, but I can't see him going high first round. Dallas needs a RB in this draft no matter what.

Did he struggle? Or was he just fine and it wasnt 9 ypc like it was against the Rocky Mountain Techs of the world

The Washington commies should draft tuten. Brob ain't it and ecekler is old.

Tremendous performances, glad these guys are doing well for themselves.

Hopefully will also catch some attention that it is actually possible to make the NFL without going to Ohio State, Texas, or Alabama.

But seeing how much talent we had also just makes the outlook for VT going forward more bleak. We couldn't win with these guys--our coaching is far sub par.

Confirms my lack of concern about losing Bowen. He had the two fastest people on the field and 4 months to prepare to beat Vandy. He concocted a Gameplan to throw 15 screens behind the LOS. Not necessarily saying Montgomery is going to be a godsend but he's got to be better than that.

Agree. Truthfully I thought it would have been justified to let go of both Marve and Bowen after this past season. But I'm sure Pry didn't want to conduct two coordinator searches and saw Marve as the bigger concern. Well these things have a way of working out. See Montgomery as an enormous upgrade over Bowen.

It would have been justified but Marve had to go while Bowen needed to improve (which he has since the first year). So i thi k Pry made the right choice to start. I think Bowen has the chance to be a decent OC in the future, I dont think that of Marve (decent DC).

he's got to be better than that

All I can say after watching the combine results.

We should have won a lot more games last year.

If we had a solid OL that would have been possible.

Yep, all the talent doesn't matter if you can't get them the ball in the second level

We lose any close game we are in, so bringing that win total up is kinda hard.

As much as I would love the Falcons to be drafting Tuten or Lane, if they draft anything on the offense outside of a single OL, I'll be pissed.

Would love to see APR go there.

Yep, Falcons need DL/OL and edge rush. I'd love to see them grab a stud OL in the first round and snag APR in the later rounds as I think he can be a decent rusher if he plays in the right system

Is there any place in this conversation where it's appropriate to bring up the question whether Gault was really a bad S and C coach? I mean these guys are killing it on the national stage. But then our o-line was so non-conditioned, I guess.....

The only legit NFL players we have had since Beamer retired have been transfers. Think about that. Pry and Fuente are not elevating the HS talent on this roster in any meaningful way.

Pry's first season at VT was 2022, so any of his HS recruits would have been sophomores at best last season with players like Delane, Chaplin, Phillips, Stroman all transferring out to P2 schools..... seems to have done pretty well with the young talent that was here when he arrived and it will remain to be seen how his recruits develop. The real challenge from Fuente was a huge lack upperclass talent and a set of weak recruiting classes leaving pry with lots of projects. The fact that Pry took those young projects and turned some of them into valuable P2 targets and has been getting transfers into the NFL (transfers that many on here complained weren't any good or worthwhile as transfers bc they were from lower levels of football) is a good thing.

We have to be better at recruiting and retention, but many of the position groups have been progressing well. The gaping hole of OL development has been a real failure, but hopefully that is under control moving forward.

"The real challenge from Fuente was a huge lack upperclass talent"- because he was a shit recruiter. No need for anymore excuses, he's out of work for a reason

100% agree. It is exciting that this season we have the most players at a combine that I can remember in a while. Yes many were transfers, but that means that pry was able to get high value transfers to join and then get them to a point where it is feasible for us to have our most draft picks in forever.

There is an open question of "did Pry use all his good will on keeping the good players here for a 6-6 season and cant do it again"

Man I am with you on this - mostly, but this would seem to logically assert that were Tuten and Lane sub-4.4 runners when they came to VT 2 years ago, or perhaps even faster, since we didn't develop them. I doubt that is the case, and I don't want to take away the hard-ass work Tuten and the others put in on their own. But I still have a hard time saying Galt unequivocally sucked when we are seeing gaudy (and rare even in the Goforth days) numbers like this.

The flip side is that combine isn't actual football and is only loosely predictive. You can jump really far and run really fast, but it's not the same as breaking a tackle (or making a tackle). That's the whole thing about skinny legs -- does it translate to actual football

TBF... tuten can straight up play football

Yeah they aren't exclusive, but game strength is a subset of S&C

Maybe Tech is such a trainwreck that their 40 times reflect just how fast they are trying to run up out of there. /s

Latest ESPN NFL Mock Draft claiming to take combine into account doesn't have Tuten in top 2 rounds with 7 running backs in those two rounds.

Someone going to get a starter for cheap then

I feel like Tuten has all the little things that make backs good, he doesn't go down easily, he hits holes quickly, he doesn't dance in the hole, he follows blockers. His broken tackles number was insane last year and that plus the really good combine numbers should make teams take another look at the tape.

Jay Gruden was on the afternoon drive show on 106.7 The Fan in DC and Tuten was the first running back he rattled off amongst several that he thought the Commanders would take a close look at.

So then the Eagles can grab him in the second round to have a ridiculous 1-2 at RB to go with their ridiculous 1-2 at WR.

make it so, Howie

Honestly think Lane would be a solid late round fit for the eagles too

Here lies It's a Stroman Jersey I Swear, surpassed in life by no one because he intercepted it.

Oh yeah, I hadn't thought of that.

Yeah with the weapons the Eagles have, if they could get Lane with a mid round pick, he could be set up to have a wonderful career. A HR hitter on a roster that requires a defense to key in on at least one of Brown, Smith and Barkley?

NFL scouts are absolutely horrid at scouting QBs. You can't do worse really. But they are much more effective at scouting other positions- like RB. My guess is that Tuten would best fit a hybrid role in the NFL - fast, elusive early downs, reverses, outside zone. With that, he probably doesn't have enough tape catching the ball, used in the slot etc as opposed to some other backs because VT doesn't feature its backs the way we should beyond pounding them into a medicore line. Someone is going to get a very very good back at a bargain.

I think there's a decent amount of time he was used that way but, it was only for 1 year.

If it was for 2-3 years there'd be plenty of tape in many different roles at the coaches would have that additional time to evaluate his best use in actual game.

This is going to be great for the ACC.
