I mean, he's not wrong. I think it sums up our athletic department.

Fire Whit.

We won a few close games in a historically bad ACC to avoid being in the bottom 3. We were in fact ass this year. And the last 2 mins of the game yesterday were flat embarassing. The ACC was awful this year which clouds how really bad we are.

At the beginning of the year I was telling people we might be one of the worst power conference teams in the entire country. We weren't, which is what Lawal is basically saying.

Outside it's night time, but inside it's LeDay

Iconic quote. Hope we can convince him to stay next season.

Every second counts

I hope Joe adds it to the site footer.

Troof. Tech won 8 ACC games. Definitely not good yet it's about 8 more than I expected them to win back when conference play started.

I found TKP after two rails from TOTS then walking back to my apartment and re-watching the 2012 Sugar Bowl. I woke up the next day with this username.

Put it on a t-shirt I'll buy it

Exactly how I feel about this season, haha.

21st century QBs Undefeated vs UVA:
MV7, MV5, LT3, Grant Wells, Braxton Burmeister, Ryan Willis, Josh Jackson, Jerod Evans, Michael Brewer, Tyrod Taylor, Sean Glennon, and Grant Noel. That's right, UVA. You couldn't beat Grant Noel.

What better quote to replace the "This is my school, this is home" that I had as my previous signature

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

What's your relationship with Coach Young like?

"It's not bad, of course, because I'm here ... He's a funny dude, I'll say that."

Assuming this isn't taken out of context, that's not a ringing endorsement.

I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me.

why would you assume it's not taken out of context when you've swapped in a "..." for "It's good, I love Coach Young" in the actual quote

Of course it's not a ringing endorsement if you take out the part where he says the relationship is good and that he loves playing for him twice????????????????????????????????????????????????????

"Why gobble gobble chumps asks such good questions, I will never know." - TheFifthFuller

You think answering "It's not bad, of course, because I'm here" immediately after being asked about your relationship with your coach IS a ringing endorsement?

I'm quoting two separate comments, neither of which were particularly flattering to Mike Young. It's called an ellipse, and that's how it's used.

JFC...

I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me.

I think you're missing Lawal's tone. End of the day a lot of these players don't have a ton of media experience and sometimes things come off a bit awkward. This seems like a prime example of that. For that reason, I'm with GGC here I think you're taking the comment out of context even if you don't mean to.

"Hokie religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid." Han Solo

I'm not taking anything out of context. The whole point of the ellipse is to inform a reader that you are NOT quoting sequentially. It's not misleading, that's the point of using it.

Lawal made two comments out of a string of answers that raised my eyebrows, and I listed them. If Lawal's answer immediately after being asked a neutral question about his relationship with his coach is "It's not bad, of course," that's not a great answer. If the question was a loaded one, such as "Do you have a bad relationship with your coach? What's your relationship like?" then his answer is being taken out of that context. Otherwise, it's an interesting answer to say the least.

I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me.

You do you dog. I really think you're reading too far into that.

"Hokie religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid." Han Solo

The whole point of the ellipse is to inform a reader that you are NOT quoting sequentially. It's not misleading, that's the point of using it.

The idea is to remove information that do not provide useful information, not to remove information that contradicts what you're trying to say.

From UAGC's Writing Center:

Use an ellipsis to omit information from a direct quote.
You may have a long quote that contains words or phrases that do not provide useful information. You can use an ellipsis to remove some of the unneeded words. However, DO NOT omit words in order to change the original meaning or intent of the original author. Take care to preserve the original meaning of the quote.

Idk I think the part of the quote that says "I love Coach Young man. He helped me improve in so many ways, you don't even understand man" seems like a ringing endorsement :shrugs:

Love this quote even more after a good night's sleep.

I sincerely hope this is a wakeup call to our leaders and major donors. Our best player called us out for basically not having enough to compete and putting our coach in a no-win situation. Stop this nickel and diming shit, fund these guys, and if you can't do that, start trimming the fat elsewhere so we can compete in the sports that bring in money.

Its still extremely frustrating that they announced and fundraised for an extensive renovation of Cassell that at this point I'm wondering if it'll ever happen. Its still on the Hokie Club site, but nothing has been updated since 2021, and still has graphics and quotes from coaches who aren't here anymore talking about how it'll help them recruit and attract players to Blacksburg.

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

I dont think it matters whether we play in a palace or inside a shed with an asphalt court - we aren't attracting anything beyond mid-tier talent unless the NIL gets fixed. Personally - I've lost interest in the basketball program. Granted I was never that big of a follower, but I haven't been this uninterested in the program since we were dog sh*t playing in the Big East, and I dont know that I'm coming back from it.

I like this summation. Validates me not having watched one second of basketball this season.

You will see this game, this upset and this sign next on ESPN Sportscenter. Virginia Tech 31 Miami 7

His decision was made after a phone call with longtime Virginia Tech assistant coach Bud Foster. All Foster told him was, "We win. They don't."

Sadly, this is also the boat I'm in.

If it's the Hokies and it's on tv and I can get it, I'm watching or recording it to watch later and if it's just on radio, I'm listening. It wasn't always pretty, it wasn't always that much fun, but it's the Hokies and I've been invested for so long it's a habit I've acquired over the years since '68. All in all, I'm glad of the experiences I've had and I can honestly say it has enriched my life. So next team, next sport, next coach whatever...I'm in.
