OT: Andor Season 2 (spoilers!)

Just finished the first three episodes and my goodness...what an incredible show. The sizzle of the characters and snap of the plot pick up right away. Can't wait to see where this goes!

I loved them as well and had been looking forward to this for months. First 3 episodes probably more set up for the next 3 parts, but still plenty of action.

Boss Bitch Dedra with Syril's mom might be my favorite part of the first 3 episodes.

Dedra dominating Syril's mom was just the best. In Season 1, I was kind of curious/worried. what exactly the point of Syril was, but I don't even care anymore after this season.

Go Hokies!

i will be downloading and watching this weekend on a plane -- can't freaking wait

now THAT is how you kick off a season.

The parallels between the empire and the Nazis are getting REAL clear which is great, and I love the Mon Mothma story. I might like her arc the most of all so far

Mon Mothma is super qualified. Genevieve O'Reilly's performance is phenomenal...the nuance in her facial expressions throughout these three episodes is so great.

Go Hokies!

I feel like I forgot everything from the first season.

Same. I watched the first 3, and couldn't remember much from before.

Going to have to find a season 1 recap, watch it, then watch the first 3 episodes of season 2 again

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

First three episodes were not only slow - they were deliberately dragging the narrative to get to their Episode 3 destination. The time Andor spent with the rebels was just wheel spinning.

We see this a lot in modern streaming series - we need to stretch this to X episodes, so we'll slow things down and add plot elements that go nowhere. See White Lotus S3.

Reality has a mighty pimp hand.

So, I kind of (just kind of) disagree... a slow burn isn't necessarily a bad thing, and I think, when done correctly, it's a very effective storytelling tool. After all, you have to build characters and storyline in order to have a long term payoff. Season 2 of The Wire is the best example of this IMO.

That said, I agree that D+ is the absolute worst - they always seem to come from the business side first, and creative side second.

I feel like there's something different about the way this should stretches the narrative. Yes, Andor in the jungle wandered a bit, and it's hard for me to put my finger on it exactly, but I just feel like this show has a "snap" and sizzle to it that is just different and better.

Go Hokies!

Because it made sense.

You've got pockets of rebellion all over the place, there's bound to be revels who don't know each other, who are violently suspicious of each other, and disorganized as fuck.

Of course they would know who he is.

low key best performance through six episodes, Kleya.

Her and Mon Mothma are killing it.

I think Vel and Bix are ready for a big arc next week

I don't know if I see either of them surviving next week..

Bix, I think it's going to succumb to her PTSD. Her actions at the end of the episode aren't gonna stop the nightmares.

Vel, I think will probably go out in a blaze of glory. Probably around the time that The rogue one crew assembles.

All right, I'm all caught up on season two and I'm just all around really impressed

  • The acting, the storytelling... It's all top-notch. Mon's facial expressions as she navigates traffic at her daughter's wedding... You can just feel her emotion. The way that scene was spliced with the scene on another planet was just fantastic cinematography
  • It's looking like they're going to continue to release three episodes every week, and each week is going to be one year closer to the death star battle. We're essentially getting a Andor movie every week. I gotta wonder if the acolyte would've gotten renewed had it had this release cadence.
  • I'm pretty surprised that the Star Wars franchise was willing to make a show that was this dark. Not only is this a political thriller, but the adult themes are front and center. they had a literal rape scene. This is a huge departure from Star Wars as we know it. As an adult, I'm fascinated, entertained, and on the edge of my seat, but there's no way you could show this series to a 9-year-old Star Wars fan.

I'm already sad that this season has to end and it's only halfway through.

Go Hokies!

Forrest Whittaker kind of lost me at the end of Ep 5. What was that all about?

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

Showing that you can't be a revolutionary and be 100% sane

explanation here

TLDR the dudes so crazy that he gets high off the shit everyone else is too afraid to try. And that's a sign for how desperate the rebellion is: they're relying on addicts to transfer fuel they desperately need.

Ahh, okay, yeah I see that now

Thanks!

To be fair, I think it's more of an excuse to re-introduce/build upon a character that star wars nerds really like than it is plot device. But still :shrugs:

I think episode 8 and 9 might be the best TV I've seen in years

I caught up last night. I can't wait to see more of K2SO in the final 3 episodes

God damn so good. The actress playing Mon is incredible. The scene as they are leaving the senate is amazing. Episode 9 just had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. Wow.

I didn't love the ending where Bix left. Felt kinda unnecessary. Maybe not. We'll see.

Came here to say just this about Bix's exit. Doesn't seem like what her character would do. I'm sure she'll be involved with ep10-12, but I wish they'd have saved the emotional punch of her departure for later in the plot.

Genevieve O'Reilly better get some awards buzz. She's absolute box office.

Go Hokies!

It's not even that it's out of character for Bix... why does Andor need Bix to disappear to buy in to joining the rebellion? He's already been radicalized???

She's not in Rouge One so they had to explain it somehow. Most people online expected her to die because of this. I think it's good that they didn't fridge her to move Cassian forward.

"He's already been radicalized???"

But he specifically told her that he was done. He wanted to just run off and be with her and wash his hands of the whole thing. She knew that he would never fully commit to the rebellion with that option on the table.

RIP Syril. I am so taken with his character...completely different from any other SW universe persona. I still cannot get what the show was doing with him; utter plot chaos! I wish this show had more seasons to tease him out more. Completely stunned when he died.

Go Hokies!

What do we think the grand finale will be about? It feels like it's time for the Death Star to become the center of the plot, but it's hard to imagine how Gilbert ties up all these rich characters.

Go Hokies!

Feels like it has to go right up to the beginning of Rogue One right?

My guess is Dedra finds out the real purpose behind Crennic's Ghorman operation, realizes everything she's believed, and Syril's death, was all for a lie. So she confides in Loni, whom she's been suspicious of all along, this gets to Luthen, and then to Cassian just in time for Rogue One.

I was wondering if we were going to see Galen Erso recruiting the pilot to steal the Death Star plans and take them to Saw. That would make a lot of sense.

Got the first two episodes from last night. I'm still not sure what I think is happening to Miro at the end.

Best SW show ever. All praise to Tony Gilroy

Perfection. I almost went right into re-watching Rouge One last night when I was done but it was too late.

I would have done the same thing if I hadn't finished it at 12:30 in the morning

Me and the family did the other day. R1 is by far my favorite modern Star Wars movie. I'm 54, I can't relinquish the original trilogy (minus the Ewoks). As a kid those movies were so ahead of their time and are held dear to me.

I immediately watched the first 30 minutes of Rogue One after the end of the last episode. The seamlessness was amazing.

"That's my school, this is HOME"

Yup, I watched Rogue One the day after finishing Andor. Forgot how awesome K2 is

I don't think I've been alive long enough to see a show wrapped up so perfectly.

The final montage, alone, deserves an award.

Never Forget #1 Overall Seed UVA 54, #64 UMBC 74

Absolute fkin box office. Holy wow...not even sure where to start. Except that I'm bawling my eyes out at the last scene.

Go Hokies!

While this season didn't have an individually elite monologue like the Andy Serkis and Stellen Skarsg monologues from season 1, it wrapped the story nicely. I enjoyed it.

Five star get after it 100 percent Juice Key-Playing. MAN

"...the monster who will come for us all, soon enough" is living rent free in my head right now.

Go Hokies!

I can't claim to be a big Star Wars buff but damn was that fire! Learning about the backstory between Luthen and Kleya in ep. 10 was just masterclass storytelling. More like this!

If you're reading this mail me West End London Broil pls

y'all don't know how hard it was to swerve spoilers left and right. basically, I had to wait til the whole thing was out to begin watching after some unforeseen circumstances and annoyances getting in the way. wound up watching episodes 1 or 2 at a time instead of in 3 ep arcs like intended.

but I am all caught up and

OH BABY

this show is so good. I am really sad they didn't give it the room to grow and breathe like it could have warranted. each one of the "one year jumps" could have held an entire season and I would not have been mad. still some unanswered questions for me, which is how it should be!!!!

most underrated part of this season for me is Partagaz listening to Nemik's manifesto recording right before he ends himself to avoid facing accountability for the security nightmare that happened underneath him

"Why gobble gobble chumps asks such good questions, I will never know." - TheFifthFuller

It's a shame they couldnt have the time and money to tease out Dedra closing in on Luthen. Would've loved more of those two circling each other, move and counter move.

Mad respect for avoiding spoilers that long!

The scene you mention with Partagaz is great, I really liked the little back and forth with Krennic and Partagaz right before that as well.

Go Hokies!

I was highly distracted by the recasting or Bail.

I love a good nap. Sometimes that's all that's getting me out of bed in the morning.

Scheduling conflict for Jimmy Smits

I'm glad it was only that. Initially, I thought he died 😬

"The Big Ten is always using excuses to cancel games with us. First Wisconsin. Then Wisconsin. After that, Wisconsin. The subsequent cancellation with Wisconsin comes to mind too. Now Penn State. What's next? Wisconsin?" -HorseOnATreadmill

Good to know, but damn he wasn't in it that much seems like they could have figured it out. Jimmy Schmitts just has personality hard to duplicate. I know he is supposed to be reprising his role in the new Dexter series.

I love a good nap. Sometimes that's all that's getting me out of bed in the morning.

This series was fine in my opinion. I know for most it was just awesome but I still found parts of it to be slow. I also was really big into the old legends stories where Kyle Katarn was more or less who Andor is. That aside, it was really more of a Mon Mothera backstory than anything else. The episode that ended with her just raving on the dance floor was interesting lol.

I love a good nap. Sometimes that's all that's getting me out of bed in the morning.

raving on the dance floor and drinking while she pimps off her daughter for the cause and implicitly (but not complicitly) signs off on the murder of her childhood friend (also for the cause) because he got cold feet about the cause. it was riveting character building

"Why gobble gobble chumps asks such good questions, I will never know." - TheFifthFuller

Sure it was. Just not what I am looking for in Star Wars. Too each their own.

I love a good nap. Sometimes that's all that's getting me out of bed in the morning.

One of the most interesting takes I've heard on Andor is that it's too dark for Star Wars, a series that is supposed to be for 7-15 year olds. I've talked to dads who have gotten their kids into Star Wars but don't feel comfortable with them watching Andor.

I do think it's interesting that Star Wars decided to do a spinoff that's basically a political thriller. I found it fascinating and exciting, but I get that it's a departure from the norm.

I agree. It's definitely a departure from the classic Star Wars plot and story line, however for me this was a not a bad change. I do enjoy the older movies/stories and all they entail, but after watching them my favorite remains Rogue One. It makes a lot of sense that I would therefore really enjoy Andor, which I did. It also appears to be a series that a lot of people that couldn't get into the classic themes can enjoy as it is a bit more akin to current series content themes.

I've talked to dads who have gotten their kids into Star Wars but don't feel comfortable with them watching Andor.

I remember when Revenge of the Sith came out and my boss at the time had a 8 year old that wanted to see it but he did not feel comfortable with the scene where all the younglings were slaughtered. It was a bit much for a young kid.

That's a good take. It is a good show there is no doubt. But there isn't really any rewatchability about it in my opinion. No scenes where I'm running to YouTube to see again. Rogue One has lots of those scenes.

I love a good nap. Sometimes that's all that's getting me out of bed in the morning.

No scenes where I'm running to YouTube to see again.

This... is not something that has ever occurred to me, outside of sports highlights lol

Oh man. Sorry to say I am big on that. Awesome scenes (in anything) I will look up and rewatch until I can remember ever nuance. It's a compulsion lol.

I love a good nap. Sometimes that's all that's getting me out of bed in the morning.

I can't tell you how many times I've YuoTubed the Darth Vader light saber scene in Rogue One. I mean goose bumped every time. That is the scene that shows just what a total badass DV was. One of the best scenes ever created.

The first time I saw the end of R1 when the dude handed the Death Star plans to Princess Leia totally took me out of my seat. I didn't/wasn't able to put two and two together as to the timeline of R1 and when I saw her and she said, "Hope" it immediately took me back to 1977. It was a surreal feeling. It what makes me see R1 as a "masterpiece"

I don't think there are highlights that you just need to go watch snippets. But, after a couple months I suddenly felt the need to watch the first season again. I've actually watched it three or four times now. I feel certain I'll do the same with the second season.

interestingly enough i find that outside of a few scenes (the aldhani heist + eye and One Way Out being the most notable) i find the most rewatchable parts to be the monologues and voiceover scenes -- moments of real weight and gravitas. we get Nemik's manifesto, Luthen's monologue to Lonni, Maarva's posthumous hologram to the Ferrix insurgents, Saw's Rhydo-fueled diatribe, Bix's farewell to Cassian

"Why gobble gobble chumps asks such good questions, I will never know." - TheFifthFuller

The Aldhani heist and escape through the eye might be my favorite Star Wars moment ever. I've rewatched that episode maybe six or seven times.

Go Hokies!

Those who don't feel comfortable introducing their teens to Andor must have a hell of a time discussing current events with their teens

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

I mean, I think a 15 year old can watch Andor and get it. My kids aren't 7 yet, but I don't live the idea of my 7 year old watching a show with a rape scene.

I get that. For most of the modern SW shows I would consider them "enjoyable" if they made me feel like a kid again, watching the OG trilogy on a CRT in my parent's basement.

Andor is absolutely not that. Hell of a good show, but not that. And that's okay. To each their own.

I found TKP after two rails from TOTS then walking back to my apartment and re-watching the 2012 Sugar Bowl. I woke up the next day with this username.
