Hokies get passed over on hosting a Regional with Duke surpassing them to get the 15th seed to Host. Stanford also jumped them essentially as the 17th seed to face 16th Oregon Regional.
Hokies are the two seed in the Alabama Regional. They face Belmont at 330pm on Friday. It's not the worst Regional to get and doesn't require cross country travel as in years past. A win puts them in the first game Saturday against either Jackson State or Alabama. Sunday would be the finals if they make it.
Still sucks that by seeding they are viewed as 5th best in the ACC after having an ACC Regular Season championship on the line the last weekend of regular season.

Yep, that's the deal. I can watch the espns but not the +. My likely move will be to see if we keep advancing, but if we go to ESPN I'd hate to have bought the + for nothing. As unpredictable as this team has been, I'd hate to bet on them just yet, but I hate that with the +, I can't even choose to listen to the game on the computer. It does frost my rear endage because I've followed them faithfully all season, and usually can at least keep up with them on ACCN.

Cornell lacrosse did the impossible yesterday- won a national championship.
Cornell has been one of the few lacrosse entered sports programs for decades. They were a major player when I was looking at colleges back 40 years ago.
It's a relatively small niche group.
If I was to use a sport to jump in and target getting Natty as fast as possible at VT, I would make the Men's Rugby club an NCAA sport, get coach (right now they do not have one) and a budget for proper training and transportation.
Collegiate club national champs over and over again and a club sport powerhouse for decades. Slightly niche and relatively inexpensive.
There's also bowling, fencing and rifle. Any of those would be cheap and easy to get into and there's a relatively small number of schools competing.

The only thing about the conference that "just means more" is the revenue. Money drives it all and with an extra $30M, they can push $1M more into each Olympic sport than teams from other conferences. An extra million into a sport like softball means A LOT more

Top talent will eventually go elsewhere because of the $ec glut. All good things come to an end; all dynasties; all empires, the $ec is no exception.

The SEC has had an advantage- a significant one for decades. Back to Bear Bryant practicing with 200 players because academics didn't matter in Alabama. Warm weather, less than IVY priority for academics, a sports centric culture akin to English soccer hooligans- where soccer matches are life and death, High schools that are part of the complex- the football QB in mississippi high school is a legit celebrity, etc, etc, etc. Culture eats performance for breakfast. A conference in the south made up of largely public schools is the prime athlete factory. Been that way for decades and will never change. The TV money won't dry up. Why? More people will watch the Iron Bowl than game 7 of the world series. That's why.
