Marquettes New Coach: Wojo leaves Duke

Guess with Coach K announcing he was going to stay at least another five years might have been the tipping point.

What do you guys think? I think it will give him the chance to establish himself as a legitimate HC before coming back to the ACC. Wont miss seeing him with Duke though.

Now they can hopefully grant some of their recruits releases so we can finish up our class. Coach K will need to find someone else to do his interviews again.

UVA: Jefferson's biggest mistake

Marquette fans think he will be a better coach than Buzz. They seem to think that Buzz isn't a good coach, seems more out of hatred than logic.

Yeah, was seeing the same thing, thought it was out of spite. No way Wojo recruits like Buzz, because he never had to work that hard at it at Duke. Think they are in for an awakening. Not saying Wojo wont do well but comparing these two is more apples to apples than they think.

The easy comparison is to catch a video of a Wojo interview, and one of Buzz. Marquette has gone from a guy who owns every room he enters to a guy whose persona is spoiled but inexperienced rookie. And by rookie, Wojo can be a HC for five years and he'll still seem like he's wet behind the ears. He might do well in W/L, but he'll make Archie Miller seem like an old soul.

Probably making sure he's made the correct decision. Bibbs and Hudson may do the same.

I'd take anything you see or hear today with a grain of salt. IIRC, he was one of the vocal ones that was excited about the Buzz hiring, doubt he is leaving.

Yeah I remember reading that. He's probably just making sure he's made the right decision.

Hmm I am surprised by this. I haven't seen an announcement from Tech that he requested release from his NLI and haven't seen him post anything to Twitter himself and he is pretty active. Going to take any story today with a big grain of salt. Not saying it isn't true but its odd timing.

He had an exchange with Trevor Thompson prior to the news breaking, too. Could be asking for connections to new schools?

@CraigThompsonVT

I think it's a solid move. Like above, I agree with the uncertainty about his recruiting abilities, but is probably one of the best assistants in the country. This is probably a better solution for them than a majority of candidates that were prior HCs at small schools.

@CraigThompsonVT

I see Wojo leading the same type of team as, say, Fred Hoiberg at Iowa State. They have always seemed to have the same demeanor, and has nothing to do with them both being white.

Marquette will be a great place for him to build his credentials.

Lang is gone. He's retweeted everything that's said he has been released from his LOI.

I am sure Buzz will be able to bring someone in that is equal or better. I will be interested to see where he lands.

That's the thing to remember about our current/'old' recruits. In general, they were not on par with the rest of the ACC recruiting classes. If Buzz only nabs mid-level ACC recruits, he's improved on the previous iteration. I'm not at all bothered by the recruits & players that have dropped. Why? Everything in Buzz's history and reputation reinforce that he will replace them with higher ranked recruits & players. Trade a 2-star for a 3-star? A 3-star for a 4-star? I'm all in on that...
