Crazy how much variance there is in things like that. I was maybe 5'5 at the END of my freshman year of high school. When I started 10th grade I was over 6ft.

I'm not expert in the area, but I think, generally, a later growth spurt tends to also coincide with a longer period of growth (growth plates staying open longer), compared to early growth spurts.
However, I think the variance in the matter is what makes it so fascinating. Sometimes the kid who hits 5'10 really early never gets much/any taller, sometimes they end up an NFL left tackle.

Have heard the same. I was 4 ft 5 at age 10; 5ft 5 at 14 and maxed at a bit over 5 ft 8 (which is a blessing in my later years as I became my true self as it turned out!)

Sophomore year was tough, I was 4'10" & less than 100lbs...got severely bullied by a couple of jackass seniors. Still bitter about it even though I'm turning 40 in a few years (which is why I give Whit a pass in the Whit / Stiney beef).
Grew close to 10 inches before the start of Junior year.

Apparently Stiney when he was at JMU was mean to young Whit who was a ball boy or something and he has some sort of petty grudge against Stiney. Seriously the dumbest most small potatoes crap you can imagine.

Oh no absolutely not. I think Stiney would have had some value Pry's first year as a behind the scenes analyst or a positional coach though. He's not a great OC by any stretch, but he was always a very solid TE and OL coach and has connections throughout the state. A GM like you said also would make some sense.
But yeah give me Monty and Moore all day as our offensive brain trust.

This is an interesting stance considering that they haven't coached a single game for VT yet. And unless you're spot on and they're absolutely grade A coaches, this is likely the only year they'll be on Tech's sidelines.

Moore is one of the best oline coaches in the nation. Montgomery has a history of fantastic offenses, the question is how fast can Moore work and does Montgomery still have it.

Counterpoint. Searles, Grimes, Rudolph were all supposed to be OL savants and all of them completely failed in Blacksburg. Fuente was supposed to be one of the best offensive minds in the game when he was hired and our offense floundered under him in Blacksburg. Pry was regarded as one of the best defensive coaches in the business when he was hired from Penn State and our defense hasn't once resembled even a mediocre Bud Foster unit.
All I'm saying is I'm tired of anointing coaches before they even coach a single game for VT. I don't give a flying fuck what a coach has done before. Until they prove they can win consistently in Blacksburg I'm not sold.

Oh I agree, but searles came from Texas and VT isnt Texas, Grimes did well here and even better after he left so it was just a stepping stone job, Rudolph was a mess but so was that entire staff as im not surrounded anyone knew what to teach. And he came from Wisconsin which haf a history of big oline before him.
Fuente had a 1st and 2nd round QB, some of that was development but you dont get that high with out pure athleticism. You cant teach 6'5". And Pry has easily been replaced at PSU.
Moore did this at WVU which is more apples to apples than all the other places coaches have come from, but will he have time to fix the oline is the question.
Montgomery has concerns as he isnt the Montgomery of 2012 cause the game isnt stuck in 2012. But there hasn't been an OC in VT history with his kind of resume. He's got a lot to prove but he's actually proven it before. Cornelson hadn't, Bowen hadn't, stiney hadnt Loeffler hadnt.

I actually like Stiney as a GM...point being, it's not like the pettiness is costing us an elite piece to the coaching staff.
