For those of you who were around in the day and don't know it, Randy King, sportswriter for the Roanoke Times, passed away Wednesday night. He was an interesting and entertaining fellow, old school reporter, and pretty much gave VT good and fair coverage. Much could be said about the man, but maybe reading the RT's write up would provide a good starting point.

I remember the '99 season quite well, and I remember well the worry we fans had at our tailgate that cold day we hosted Syracuse. We fretted and were jittery about the game while we froze our butts off sippin' Wild Turkey and Jack and wondering if we were about to get our clocks cleaned. The result was, of course, a 62-0 absolute clobberation of the 'Cuse and a glimmer of the season to unfold. I'm borrowing King's opening lines in his story for the Roanoke Times of the game. Hope they don't mind. Randy was one of a vanishing breed, and I personally think that ain't a good thing, but yeah, I still read a couple of newspapers every day. I miss stuff like this:
"Any more questions, America?
Ask now. Virginia Tech's football program wants to hear 'em.
Certainly, Tech seems to have all the right answers these days."
Man, what a year, what a team. What a difference 25 years have made. All the right answers? Oh well.....
RIP Randy King! I always looked forward to reading his Tech articles. Informative and fun reads.
Love this clip that Andy Bitter shared. Corey Moore in the middle of his rant against the media says "How you doin Randy?" I always liked Randy King's articles and he always had a great presence in the press conferences.

Rest in peace, Randy. As a kid I'd always pull out the sports section and read Randy's articles. Between him and Doug Doughty the Times used to have some excellent writers.
Damn I saw some people randomly put out some messages this week but didn't realize why.
