I say VT wins 31-27. We go up big early due to the unknown scheme, SCar adjusts, but unlike Syracuse, we manage to run out the clock.
What say you?

One score loss due to Pry messing up.
5-2 VT, we all die of liver failure
You're a sick man, I like it.
Regardless of this game, and at 75 yrs old, if I die of liver failure at anytime, I will guarantee the Hokies have had a lot to do with it.
VT wins 13-0 before going 13-0 on the season
Being honest, I think we are outmatched on both sides of the ball and lose fairly convincingly. With that said, and for all of our shortcomings, the team has rarely folded mentally or thrown in the towel with Pry the way we did with Fuente at times. Also think Shane will not want to run the score up on us too much. So I'm not expected a 51-3 type loss, but something where the final score looks respectable, even though we were never really in the game.
I could roll dice to come up with the final score and would probably be closer than what I can guess, but I'd expect something like losing 28-10 or 35-17.
Hopefully I am wrong and we pull off a huge upset.
Hopefully I am not wrong on the flip side and we do lose 51-3.
I think Shane will absolutely run up the score. This is big dog SEC country, not Hufflepuff SEC. VT needs to buck up and show up.
I expect a 3 score loss. I'm hoping for a cover the spread.
Expect something like 31-14. Hoping to cover the spread. Dreaming for 27-24 win.
Oh, I fully expect us to lose by 17 or more.
Or if it's closer than 10 points at any point in the fourth quarter.
Basically, we only win if we're leading at the end of the game.
The More You Know
42-20
Pry gets out coached, as per usual. Love the guy but he's never won a noncon P4 game for a reason. He doesn't have it
I don't think he's going to start winning those games against an SEC squad qb'd by a heisman hopeful. Would love nothing more than to be dead wrong.
Beamer never beat SC. Clearly means we beat them. The football gods will allow it.
I have a positive feeling about this game. SC buys the preseason hype, lays an egg.
First games are ugly. We win by 10.
French Pry screws up something in final minutes of first half and we lose by 3.
I came here to say almost the exact same thing. My prediction was 31-24. VT shocks people, the new offense blends some spread looks and easier passing game for Drones with an option run element from all these different backs and quick receivers motioning, setting up some big PA pass opportunities for Drones. Siefkes defensive scheme contains Sellers run game enough to get the win.
Prediction: 1-13 in one score games.
Early in the season defense is normally ahead of offense. 17-14 SC.
Good work from OL, kicking and safety play keeps us in the game.
Drones has time for passing, TE and a WR are effective targets opening the run game. Dinks and dunks and an RB to keep the defense honest.
Win by FG in decently high scoring game.
I think the team starts slow. This is Pry's way. He starts games and seasons with the team looking completely inept. SC goes up by 14 to 17 points by the end of the first quarter and then we wake up a bit.
I see us playing competitively from the 2nd quarter till sometime midway through the 4th quarter, when SC's physicality and talent simply wears us down.
In the end I see a 28/31-17/20 type of score.
Furthermore, I see us limping into Lane Stadium with one less day of preparation for Vandy and I think it affects us negatively. We start the season 0-2 and Lane Stadium is 65%-70% occupied for our creampuff matchups.
If we start 0-2, Lane may not even be that full the rest of the way.
He really does just get off to absurdly slow starts each year though. To the point it makes you wonder what on earth they do in fall practice
Reminder that Beamer struggled against Georgia St, lost to UNC and nearly lost to ODU last year. They're not exactly known for their hot start
27-13 South Carolina. They're more talented and better coached. I hope I'm very wrong!
dont care about point total, gamblers are degenerate anyways. we keep it under 5 final score but its never in doubt, we lose
I predict over reaction either way.
Too late.
That's like predicting the sun will rise in the east, c'mon now.
Prediction?
Pain
I know it's a completely different era, but I can't expect to lose just because I don't know all the new players or coordinators. I remember arguing with my roommate spring of 99 because I was CERTAIN that Deep Ball Dave Meyer was the future and he said we had some new guy, Nick, Vick, something, who was supposed to be pretty good. More recently, no one knew Herbert or Tuten were going to show out. I choose to be optimistic. They have more talent? They have SEC money? They have that fancy ranking and a Heisman hopeful?
NOT TODAY.
The GOAT sports movie
If everything goes right, I could see a 27-20 win.
But if it goes wrong? Woof. 41-17 seems like it could be in the realm of possibility.
I think the good news for VT is that South Carolina hasn't really started fast under Shane Beamer. They barely beat ODU in the opener last year. They could be buying their own hype and come out flat against us in a neutral site game. South Carolina is also replacing their entire interior o-line, so that could be an area where an unknown Siefkes defense could have an advantage.
At the same time, I feel like I've have never had this tenuous of a grasp on the VT roster with the coaching changes and transfer players. Are we the good Florida State transfer teams like (seemingly) this year and two years ago, or the trainwreck from last season? Only time will tell.
Neither team has an elite offense, so especially in Game 1, I don't see either hitting 30. Guessing we end up on the wrong end of 24-20.
I'm with ya on 24-20 or 27-24. Just don't know which side we'll be on.
SC wins 34-13.
VTs chance to win is by playing a methodical ball-control offense.
I don't see us scoring 30+ without significant help.
I have huge doubts that our unproven Tackles can protect Drones in passing situations.
The Rushing game is the key. If we can run the ball efficiently and control possession we can be competitive. If we can stop USC and their 9th Year Senior RB (maybe his arthritis will be flaring today?) then it could be a tight game. If neither of those things happen, it could be ugly.
With the above said, I see the Defensive changes keeping them guessing for a while and the game close at Half but the O not being able to sustain drives and settling for too many FG.
VT 16 - USCe 27
You win
The changes along SCs DL lead me to believe that we might be able to establish a ball control running attack. Some quick hitters in the passing game to limit SCs secondary experience and the occasional long ball to keep their safeties honest should help.
Limit SC on offense as best as possible.
Love is Love
VT 19-17
24-21 good guys. Book it.
God forbid SC blocks a punt or field goal and we have to hear about a role reversal of Beamer Ball.
It was a punt return TD but you were on the right track.
We have to exorcise some demons and win this one. If we lose to Shane, the narrative will be that this program can never escape the shadow of the Beamers and its glory days are in the past. A win helps put a lot of that, and the whole "Shane was too good for VT," garbage to rest.
