"The entrance is the best part of the game, that's got to change"
"Back with Michael Vick and Corey Moore, it was awesome because they actually won games...they haven't done anything"
"Kyron Drones really struggled last week"
"All we talk about with VT is the entrance...until they actually win a big game, I'm taking Vanderbilt"
...sigh...

On the bright side, Pat McAffee talking up our defense.
Nothing they said is wrong and any VT fan without the most distorted maroon and orange tinted glasses would say the same thing.
I love that Sandman keeps VT in the conversation when the on field product isn't there, but it's beyond frustrating that at least half the time that is the best part of the "game".
Let's start changing that narrative today! Go Hokies!
Facts. Time to do something.
Dear Board of Visitors. I hope you are fucking listening. This is what we've become on your shoe string budget.
Being cheap gets cheap results
Amen!
State law makers too. And boosters.
I think our lack of big time boosters hurts. You'd think with such a great business school we'd have created more boosters.
If you had a boatload of money would you give to this shit show in merryman? I wouldn't trust them to know what to do with a pile of cash.
Yes I would. But I don't have that kind of money laying around.
If you had a buttload of money, you'd be able to reshape Merryman. You could have strings attached to your donation, force changes by withholding, and have the ear of the BOV and AD.
From what I've heard/gathered, with our top tier donors that is just not at all the culture with VT. We're not like Michigan or OSU or other big football schools with boosters that literally command action with their giving and influence. It's more like an access/chumminess with the AD situation at VT for the most part. We definitely need our top boosters to step up and be more aggressive in affecting change.
Every BOV member who spoke at this year's retreat supports investing in athletics. I talked to President Sands yesterday and he is, too. There are legal constraints and lots of moving pieces at the state and federal levels. Sands said candidly that basically we really botched things back in 2012 (three years before he started) and we've been playing catch-up, obviously too slowly. The "do more with less" ethos was on the academic and athletic side. We are pushing forward as aggressively as we can. I know it's small comfort, but any notion that the BOV and administration are an impediment or aren't paying attention is 100% wrong.
What was botched in 2012?
I don't have details. Just a remark he made. But 2012 coincided with the long downturn so who knows.
Yeah, this. What is he blaming Steger for? And why has it taken 13 freaking years to just now start to talk about addressing the problem?
I have no insight but my assumption is extending Frank's contract. I still love Frank and what he did but I've always felt he coached for a couple years more than we needed.
Based on Frank's contract extensions at the time, I still think they had the idea he'd get to 300 career wins before retiring.
Unfortunately, that lead to 10+ years in the Abyss, instead.
I mean, no one thinks that Mizzou was the SEC's first choice lol
I much appreciate your insider knowledge and sharing it with us.
We are pushing forward as aggressively as we can.
IMHO, it's too late. VT is too far behind in the arms race to make a difference now. VT will never be a contender in the college football world again. It was fun while it lasted.
Too late, and "aggressively as we can" is probably closer to a fart in the wind compared to what we should have been doing, which now, as you pointed out correctly, puts us so far behind it's now a Mt. Everest to climb instead of a Blue Ridge mountain peak.
What exactly did we botch, specifically?
2012 was when A&M and Mizzou joined the SEC...unsubstantiated rumors that we got an offer but turned it down. The ACC Grant of Rights deal we're in was negotiated during the 2012 season and signed April 2013
Not sure if that was what Sands was referring to.
Should we, though?
I've got conflicting thoughts about this. On some level, I'm not sure that it's worth taking some $50M from academic-supporting pots of money and throwing them towards this fucked-up athletic funding model that we're in.
Probably deserves its own post, though.
Personally I feel like if we do, we'd be the last of 50 kids running after the ice cream truck. And there's not enough ice cream on the truck to give to everyone, even if the NCAA were to put up a stop sign. There's little return on that. If you want to inject the department, go supplement the programs that are struggling or need just a little push to go get that trophy.
Well, sucks, but they're not wrong
Winning fixes everything.
We're going to start winning today.
:.(
Or we are going to be broken all season
Unfortunately, they only took that attitude for the first half....
