I want to say take the under but this administration makes me feel like it's the over.

There's always a lighthouse. There's always a man. There's always a city.

If we get the news before Thanksgiving I'll be honestly surprised.

A decade on TKP and it's been time well spent.

Wish it didn't take that long but until shown otherwise Merryman is business as usual and nothing happens

sadly, you might be right

Seconded. I'll believe it when I see it.

Under. No way they do their job

I'd say Pry tomorrow morning, and Whit announces "retirement" on Monday.

Fire Whit.

i feel like one of them will be out by Monday...I'd think Pry

Over. As with offense in Blacksburg, I'm not going to believe that this administration is serious about football until they actually prove it.

Onward and upward

Happily, I stand corrected. Ish. The fact Sands made the announcement tells me Whit has effectively been relieved of duties, even if he's not officially out. I expect he'll be gone at the end of the month

Onward and upward

I'm hoping for an announcement Monday morning for Pry to be gone. But Whit needs to go within a similar time frame.

Over with Whit not being able to fire Pry without firing himself it'll take more time

Yes,that's the Hokie Bird riding a camel. Why'd you ask?

Im thinking Monday.
And it has to be both.
Kinda like when an HR director lets people go knowing that his job is gone too.

And if not, then it'll backsplash on Sands.

Over. This administration let this garbage fester. I have no faith they'll attempt to fix it.

If a change isn't made this week I'm legitimately turning my back on the school. I'm fucking done with this.

I'll also believe that when I see it lol

I get what you're saying, but TKP has been hemorrhaging members for a long time now. Regardless of if you didn't mind him or hated him, DCWilson leaving is a real red flag for me in terms of the apathy this fan base is reaching.

Did he leave the site?

I was wondering why I had not seen any comments from him lately.

Honestly I thought about it, but mine just renewed before the season started when there was actual possible expectations. I skim the posts now but really don't know why I do because it's just 90% pessimism with the occasional joke. There's nothing to be excited about which means there's nothing to want to read about.

My personal Hokie expectations of doing anything great ended before Beamer ever left. Then I had a family and weekends became more valuable than sitting down all day watching college football and waiting for the Hokies to play. Then combine all of that with the fact that College Football as a whole now just downright sucks as a product. Basketball is way more enticing and attainable to me to be excited about. Games are not a huge time commitment and the hope that "all you need to do is make the tourney to make a run" helps keep some of the excitement alive most seasons.

I hope football becomes a force to be reckoned with again but honestly the last 3 seasons, "going to games" was just an excuse to day drink in college bars and much less tailgating and watching the game.

Over. I was among those hoping Pry wouldn't come out for the second half. Now I'm hoping he's gone on Sunday, but who are we kidding? Change will happen in December, after the buyout drops.

Would firing a coach at halftime have the same effect as pulling a goalie in hockey? "You schmucks just got coach fired! Now let's go out there and take our anger and embarrassment out on the other team!" What's the worst that could happen, the team quits more? They've already quit.

Change will happen in December, after the buyout drops

They can put him on administrative leave now and officially terminate him later. If he wants to start working officially on his next chapter sooner than December, he can negotiate something. They can also do the same with Whit.

edit: seeing Frank Reich as the placeholder at Stanford...wonder if Arians would agree to come in and baby sit through the end of the season...maybe even lead a coach search

There was some program that just hired a new coach and didn't fire the other one, I want to say it was Vanderbilt like 15 years ago.

Over, but that's because I think it happens Monday. Details of the move need to be finalized, and a press release needs to be made. The situation is now dire enough that I wouldn't wait to hold a press conference to make the announcement, but I know the tendencies here and I'm certain nothing will be released publicly until a press conference can be held. I think that happens by noon this upcoming Monday.

Are we talking how many times we'd like to fire both of them? Because I'm thinking I'd like to fire them every day for the rest of 2025.

I can't believe that it's even gotten to this point. The team checked out this year after SIX quarters of football.

There was a lot of skepticism about how real the 2023 turnaround was. And after the wet fart of Pry barely getting a "dark horse playoff contender" to bowl eligibility last year, that should have erased any doubt about his lack of HC ability. WTF are we doing right now? 2025 is going to be a completely wasted season.

Every second counts

I was debating whether or not to post this, because I don't have full information, but I was told last night to be ready for a full BOV meeting by the end of the month. The topic will be athletics. Tentative for 9/30. The full board would not convene if there were not going to be action items, so this isn't some kind of informational session. This is being put together in a hurry.

"Exit light..."

That great but pry needs to be fired last night. Whit can go on the 30th.

We got zoom, meet tomorrow and can Pry

I hope the BOV is feeling the heat. They have been asleep at the wheel for far too long.

Hokies United l Ut Prosim

9/30 seems about 16 days late unless that is the hiring of the new AD that is rumored to have been searched for

Danny is always open

On one hand I think 16 days is not enough urgency. On the other hand, what's going to change in 16 days?

I have no information so this is speculation.

Firings can be done at any time. But if a buyout package has been negotiated or some contract modifications have been made, the BOV would have to approve them. So this meeting may be final approval of an action to be taken soon.

"Exit light..."

Glad to hear it might not drag out to December. But given how underperforming last year was compared to expectations, I would have hoped they had already had a summer meeting that put in guidelines of what to do. Especially for the worst case 0-3 scenario we're in now.

I guess they could have had that for Pry but the wrinkle now is adding Whit to the chopping block

Here lies It's a Stroman Jersey I Swear, surpassed in life by no one because he intercepted it.

I legitimately don't think this is soon enough/shows enough urgency.

But of course I also don't think they have any type of contingency in place for this, because of course they don't. I've come to expect nothing less at this point. So that's why they have to drag this out instead of making decisive changes and taking immediate actions.

Yep I'm with you. Waiting til the 30th is not good enough. If the decision is being made, give me one good reason to wait 2 weeks to make this happen. If the decision needs to be made, don't wait.

Call an emergency session today and get it done. If this is inconvenient for the schedules of the BoV members, tough shit, being on the board means you need to be able to meet on a moments notice during emergency situations, and this is absolutely one of them.

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

Public meetings laws require posting of open session materials several days in advance. At least three, as far as I know. And then there are likely many legal issues being sorted out in house. I get the desire for urgency but I think there are practical and legal hurdles.

"Exit light..."

I find it unrealistic that the BoV is incapable of having emergency sessions.

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

Firing people doesn't constitute an emergency. In the event of some legitimate institutional threat, yes, they can convene. This is, from a matter of law, a fiduciary and personnel issue so it is routine business.

"Exit light..."

If you don't think that what we are seeing out of football is an institutional threat to the entire athletic department, then that's all I need to know to understand why the BoV has VT positioned the way it does.

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

I know I'll never convince you about process. Your mind is made up. The BOV has specific fiduciary and oversight duties. They are bound by law. A threat to the institution is a VERY different thing than what you're arguing. We all get the importance of football. Several BOV members have said football is the most important priority of the institution. I don't know what else to tell you at this point.

"Exit light..."

END OF THE MONTH??? This is a "RIGHT NOW" thing that has to be done... Do we need to sack the entire BOV while we're at it?

I think it comes about 4 days after we lose to Wofford

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

Is my understanding correct that Pry's buyout is just 75% of his remaining contract? If that is true then the cheapest thing to do is to just fire him now and save 25% cost for the season.

Danny is always open

Yes it's about $6m to fire him per multiple podcasts.

Yeah my point is just that you have to pay him regardless, so its not really a benefit to keep him going

Danny is always open

Where do I go to collect my winnings for the under at 18 hours? Although maybe I wasnt specific enough and lose on the whit over
