Training camps have opened, and we already have news on two Hokies in the League...
As already reported by Hokie Fireman, Tuten has been turning heads in training camp.

Justin Fields was carted off yesterday with a foot injury, and Tyrod is stepping up.
Aaron Glenn on Justin Fields: He has a toe injury on right side of foot. He doesn't know severity. "We have an outstanding backup in Tyrod (Taylor)." https://t.co/Q2OnJiksqF— Connor Hughes (@Connor_J_Hughes) July 24, 2025

Go Hokies!
Hopefully Tyrod gets the chance to shine again.
Give. Tyrod. The. Ball!
Brock Hoffman won't be the starting right guard for the Cowboys because of the Tyler Booker first round pick, but he's still the first backup at all 3 interior OL positions. Cowboys picked up his fifth year option for this year.....we'll see if he gets a new contract next year.....
Being the first substitution for all three interior linemen means he will gets loads of playing time. Good for him!
Looking at OurLads, Hokie alum starters include:
Divine Deablo, LILB for Atlanta
Tremaine Edmunds, MLB, Chicago
Wyatt Teller, RG, Cleveland
Tim Settle, DT, Houston
Christian Darrisaw, LT, Minnesota
Joey Slye, PK, Tennessee
Second Stringers include:
Aeneas Peebles, DT, Baltimore
Yosh Nijman, RT, Carolina
Brock Hoffman, IOL, Dallas
Khalil Herbert, RB, Indianapolis
Chamarri Conner, S, Kansas City
John Parker Romo, PK, New England
Tyrod Taylor, QB, NY Jets
Chuck Clark, SS, Pittsburgh
Jaylin Lane, WR, Washington
Bump Tyrod to starter now, Fields out for the season.
Where are you seeing that Fields is out for the season? Fields has a dislocated toe and was practicing (limited) on Saturday. All reporting I've seen says he will barely miss any time.
You see Tyrod is gonna take his job in the 2-3 practices he gets as the starter, thus Fields ain't coming back this season
I thought I saw that he tore his Achilles and was going to miss the season. Bad info it seems.
Tyrod now going to miss the rest of training camp after having arthroscopic knee surgery.
15 year career with hardly having to do anything for most of it. Glad for him.
his injury rate is pretty crazy, though
When medical staff attack you with giant needles, is that really the same thing as knee injury?
Injuries injure the same
Yeah but that feel like gaming the injury rate
Are we sure it wasnt justin herbert in a dr costume?
Don Strock had the all-time Hokie backup career. Held the clipboard like a champ and always looked like he just stepped off of the golf course.
Ravens traded Clark? Happy for him, I hate the Ravens.
He was on the Jets last year but got hurt if I remember correctly.
As a Steelers fan, I'm excited to have a Hokie. Right now he's practicing with the third string, but should have an opportunity to move up the depth chart since their secondary (particularly safety) is a bit of a musical chairs situation right now
Yeah he has been on Jets since 2023 tore his ACL in 2023 OTA's and then got a high ankle sprain landing on IR last year .. hopefully he can stay healthy and get back to his ravens performance
Kyle Fuller just had a tryout with the Ravens. Hope it works out for him!
https://www.yardbarker.com/nfl/articles/ravens_giving_former_all_pro_cor...
Blackshear had some kind of injury to end the first half during the Panthers-Steelers game. Couldn't tell how bad it was but he looked frustrated back on the bench
edit: internet says a sprain. He was having a decent game before the injury.
Didn't realize Kendall Fuller is out of the league right now.
Had two concussions last year with the Dolphins and they released him in February. Have to wonder if he decided to sit out. He got a $10M signing bonus at start of 2024 so better to be sure he is healthy. Been in the league 8 years which is above average for corners.
It seems to be a common thread among dolphin players
Wilfried Pene was released by New England
Pene may be an easy pickup for other teams as he is part of the International Pathways program so doesn't count as a roster spot. Each team is allowed at least one of these spots.
Josh Fuga was waived/injured three weeks ago by Chargers and does not appear to have been claimed and no news if he reached injury settlement
Hendon Hooker was just released as well.
Norrell Pollard released by the commanders. Wouldn't be surprised to see him picked up pretty quickly as a depth piece.
APR was cut by the Eagles
Damn wasn't expecting that. Seemed to have a really good preseason but they have stars at End
They are saying its because he didn't have a special teams role compared to two of the other edge rushers
Eagles drafting him was always a bit odd as DE wasnt a need. Maybe they graded him high and he was the best player on tier board left when it was there turn, but still it never made sense to me.
He got signed to the PS
According to their tweet about him being cut, he was moved to OLB
That's odd because he definitely was at DE in preseason games.
Go Birds. They just resigned him to the practice squad yesterday! I hope he shows them something and can get pulled up!
Bills cut Keonta Jenkins and Stephen Gosnell
Appears both likely to end up on Bills practice squad
Gosnell made a brief appearance on last week's Hard Knocks.
Doesn't look like Jaylen Jones caught on with Chargers
To the surprise of no one, Parker Clements cut by Raiders. Terrell Edmunds as well, but I would think he might get a practice squad spot because he had a decent preseason, at a position they need depth at.
Needing a guy to run away from opposing DL and LBs while working his a$$ off to block air is not something many teams need.
I think the more surprising thing about Clements is that he was there to begin with
I'm seriously not sure I can think of a more inept college offensive lineman. At least I've never seen one. At any level, really. Even D3 guys look for contact.
Hendon Hooker signing with the Panthers PS
Da'Quan Felton was put on IR for 2025 by Giants. Not sure what the injury is.
APR cut
Dorian Strong making his first NFL start tonight in place of the injured Tre'davious White.
Chuck clark made some good plays today
Jaylin Lane 1 catch for 11 yards and two fair catches on punts for Commanders
Tuten 3 rushes for 11 yards for Jaguars
Woof didn't realize Khalil Herbert didn't even make the Colts roster. He is on the practice squad
Chamarri Conner led Chiefs in tackles with 10 in their loss in Brazil
Divine Deablo had 6 tackles, 1 TFL, a QB pressure and a pass deflection for Atlanta
He's definitely a good pickup for the Falcons.
Peebles got a pass deflection for Ravens but unreal that Baltimore allowed Buffalo to score 16 points on 3 scores in the final 4 minutes. Strong had 2 tackles for the Bills.
Strongs defensive holding was a joke
Jags just traded Bigsby to the Eagles meaning Tuten will be clear RB2 going forward. Toot toot 🚂
Tremaine Edmunds finished with 7 tackles and a pass deflection in the loss to Minnesota while Darrisaw missed the game still recovering from last season's ACL and MCL tear although he is fully practicing at this point.
I've seen a lot of speculation that he was held out to primarily avoid the grass in soldier field. It's notoriously awful and I saw people slipping constantly last night. Not worth the long term risk coming off an ACL
John Parker Romo has been signed to the Falcons' practice squad to compete against Younghoe Koo.
Article: https://www.atlantafalcons.com/news/john-parker-romo-signed-falcons-kick...
While I hope a Hokie benefits...that is COLD BUSINESS... Koo is 104 of 108 on FG inside 40 yards in his career. Outside of 40 is a bit ugly though. 77 of 103 outside of 40 yards. His miss the last game was 40+.
50 is the new 40 in today's game
Especially when there were two preseason kicks of 70+.
Guess so ....Dallas just got a game tying 64 yarder as time expired against the Giants
Eagles kicker hit a 58 yarder over the top of the uprights it looked like against the chiefs today. He was also aiming at the right upright and it finished at the left upright. Wind was crazy there today.
Parker Romo also hit one over the uprights last night. I have no idea how common or not that is.
Tuten has his first real NFL TD. 8 yard reception TD
And he's on my fantasy bench 😭
yup, mine as well
I picked him up. I think he'll work is way into a RB1b situation by the middle of the season. Etienne never impressed me in the NFL.
Trevor really talked him up during the post game presser. Especially his ability to turn a 2 yard run with contact into a 5 yard run.
Tuten can thank Crooks for that ability
John Parker Romo just kicked a FG for the Falcons. Looks like he won the kicking competition in ATL.
And the Blessed Demon just made a nice tackle for no gain on 2nd and 8.
Nice seeing Hokies play well for the Falcons.
They've moved Diablo into the box and he's really thriving in that role.
Deablo gets a fumble recovery for Atlanta. Great to see him still active.
Romo having a night! 5/5 so far
This is freaking hilarious....🤣
https://x.com/mysportsupdate/status/1967433164806332866?s=42
in fairness to JPR, I also have no idea who Leonard Floyd is
Brock Hoffman came in to replace Cowboys Starting center Cooper Beebe who was injured at the start of overtime yesterday. Beebe expected to be put on IR for a minimum of 4 weeks with a high ankle sprain. Looks like Hoffman will be the starting center for a while.
Tyrod Taylor to get the start this week per ESPN https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/46292909/justin-fields-ruled-vs-bucs-jets-turn-tyrod-taylor
It's wild that Tyrod is a perfect .500 over his career (including a tie!)
Toot toot 🚂
Romo is having a brutal day so far. 0 for 2, the first one never had a chance and he overcorrected on the second
At least it didn't cost them the game. They were never in this one. 30-0 was not on my scorecard this week.
Deablo was quiet in this one too. Only 3 tackles.
Tuten on the tracks again today and has only Jags score.
Jaylin Lane with a 90 yard punt return TD for the Commanders!
Too bad our coaches never got that level of excitement out of him. Happy he is thriving away from this mess
Edmunds has been a wrecking ball for the Bears today. 7 tackles.
Now up to 16 with 6 TFL and 2 INTs. Killing dem boys
Jeez, I gotta wonder what performance incentives he has in his contract. Good for him!
Too bad for Tyrod the Jets couldn't play one lick of defense today. Tyrod led two 4th quarter TD drives and Jets had the lead after a blocked FG for TD but defense buckled at the end.
Tyrod had ok numbers but two costly mistakes. A Pick Six and a fumble on a sack.
Tremaine Edmunds with a beautiful shoestring INT on Prescott
Its always a good day when Dallas gets embarrassed on a national broadcast. Pickens is a bum.
Edmunds getting a lot of praise from Brady.
yes, love it
With respect to reesejenks, yes. Yes it is.
Somehow edmunds insane day wasnt even the best defensive performance in the nfc north today... vikings db went crazy
I would argue Edmunds day was more instrumental in terms of changing the result of the game. Minnesota won 48-10. Rodgers had a great stat line, first to ever do it in a game but it was more icing on the cake in a blowout. Bungles were terrible. They didn't even manage 200 yards of offense.
Edmunds took two scoring opportunities away in the 4th quarter, one in the end zone and the other in FG range while the Bears offense went off the rails and didn't score in the 4th.
Birds brought APR back to the practice squad
Khalil Herbert just signed with the Jets after Braelon Allen goes on IR.
One day this old man will learn how to embed tweets.
Got you covered
DUVALLLLL!!
Unfortunately Tuten didn't get much play
True, but did get key 1st down and then 2 plays later he made the key block on the blitzing linebacker on the TD pass.
He tackled the defensive player who caught Trevor's fumble at the goalie (should have given Tuten the ball to run honestly). He is on kickoff return, is getting reps just not carried.
How are Jags fans feeling about the T Hunter trade? He's been good, but had not looked league breaking as was thought.
That one catch he had and then he was helicoptering to the ground (hit by 2 guys) was pretty good. Key 1st down also.
I see flashes as well, but they gave up a lot of draft capital for those flashes while Egbuka is torching secondaries and second rounder Will Johnson has been looking stellar at CB.
Overall I'm seeing the flashes and honestly I'm shocked how good his attitude and "want" are. He has had two catches in a row now where he has but a defensive player clutching at air after a pretty move. His great catch last night. But also his attitude is infectious and his just seems to want to be there. I was worried the Deion stink would be on him , I've been pleasantly surprised and happy.
Ok now Jags fans, why would they make this CB trade? Newsome has been just above average and will be a FA at the end of the season. Cambell looks to be an equivalent player, but with many more years of team control and well below market value. The Jags basically got a late round pick and a first right at signing Newsome for a $8-9M price tag.
Well Tuten will need a massive performance to get Rookie of the Week this week. May already be sewn up by Skatteboo. Not a ton of yards but has punched in 3 TDs tonight.
Scratch the yards piece as he added 40 more in the last drive but Giants did him dirty by knowing he had 98 yards and didnt give him another carry to break 100.
Have watched several Jets games and just don't understand how Fields is still starting over Tyrod. Fields is as bad as Drones on holding onto the ball. He took nine sacks against Denver in their 13-11 loss and almost every one of them he had plenty of time to throw. Jets only had 82 yards of offense and were 2 for 15 on 3rd down. Only reason they got as many points as they did was defense forcing turnovers and a safety for offense getting flagged for holding in the End Zone.
To emphasize how bad Fields was this week...NFL counts sack yards against passing yards.

Who knew a 5'-11" 160 lb 50+ year old could be the 32nd best QB in the league this week! J-E-T-S, JETS! JETS! JETS!
Jaylin Lane just had a huge catch for 37 yards to set Commanders up with 1st and Goal
Too bad the rest of the Commanders offense couldn't hold on to the ball
Tremaine Edmunds got 4 solo tackles in Monday nights game for da Bears.
Tremaine Edmunds
The Blessed Demon had 5 tackles (3 solo) for ATL in the win against BUF last night, and Parker Romo went 3/3 on XP and kicked a 33 yard FG that made it a two score game late in the 4th quarter.
Jaylin Lane may be the #1 or #2 option for Jayden Daniels today with McLaurin, Deeno Sanders and Noah Brown all out today
Lane with a slick double move to bring in a 35 yard catch. Just chumped the DB
If only Daniels was quasi accurate today
Deablo out for the rest of the game with an injury
Tyrod got in today after the Jets pulled Fields and then he did nothing with the opportunity by throwing 2 picks.
Also underthrowing two receivers on touchdowns. He was straight up ineffective, downright bad
Did Deablo and all the Falcons get wasted last night? Getting their doors blown off by the Dolphins today. Is it all tied to Penix injury? Just don't look prepared on either side of the ball.
Wasn't even tracking Deablo broke his forearm and is on IR. That is unfortunate because he has been a great fit on Falcons
I was thrilled when they signed him because he's a Hokie, and have been even more happy at how well he's playing. Sucks that he went on IR, but he's on a three year deal, so he'll be a Falcon for a while.
Jaylin Lane just mimicked Skippy's kickoff screwup. Touch a kickoff that went out at 1 yard line.
Oof then he drops a 3rd down pass. Throw was offline but he got both hands on the ball. Almost led to a pick.
Lane with a big blunder. Kickoff bounced off his arms and out of bounds at the 1.
edit just missed. drinking
Tuten with a 4th Quarter TD to help Jags go to OT with Raiders
Lane fumbles the kickoff away at 26 yard line with Commanders already losing 14-0
One play later Seattle TD
Washington can't stop stepping and tripping on their own dicks
Edit: this comment applies to every week apparently
They are making our second half defense look good.
He's been a massive disappointment, to be frank.
I was incredibly excited to add his athleticism and return abilities and he's been awful.
Key drops, bad mental errors, fumbles. Incredibly frustrating to watch.
If they weren't down so many bodies in the WR room, he probably would have been relegated to the practice squad by now. But they just need guys to field a team.
Yep had another one go down last night in Luke McCaffrey on first play of game
As a Hokies and DC sports fan, I am in agony.
2 football seasons from hell, a baseball ownership group that won't spend a dime, a completely irrelevant basketball franchise, and a hockey team that should be just good enough to make me believe...but isn't even playing up to those expectations.
They replaced him on punt returns this week with Sanristl....who fumbled away his first attempt in tie game with Dolphins
To be fair, Lane wasn't in at that point due to a hip injury.
John Parker Romo missed an extra point late in the Falcons/Patriots game that would've tied it. The Falcons lost by one. =^(
And like that.....he's gone.
https://www.thefalcoholic.com/atlanta-falcons-roster/88728/falcons-sign-...
Insane tremaine edmunds interception that it looked like a 90+ yard pick 6 but was brought back to spot of int due to very minor contact from WR before the pick that made him "tackled" before the TD.
Still a pick thou right?
Yeah still a pick, but ruled down at their own 4 instead of getting a 96 yard pick 6
pretty impressive on the return that ended up not being a return, one of the DL was out front with Tremaine kind of show boating and Tremaine had to point out Flacco hauling ass to get there so he'd pick up the block
I never saw a replay, but that seemed like a questionable call. I think the contact happened before he really possessed the ball.
Tuten with his train conductor move after the TD
Tuten lead the Jags in rushing yards today. Would probably have 2 TDS but got hurt inside the 10 late in the game.
Tyrod Taylor has had a long career, but has horrible luck......
What happened now?
He's on the Jets
He is still being paid to be in the NFL, and their pension is based on longevity in the league. That alone makes him pretty lucky.
I agree, I'm referring specifically to winning a starting position at quarterback
I know this isn't a popular opinion here, but he really isn't good enough to be a starter in this league. However, he is a great backup because he knows the playbook and can teach other QBs.
I think if he wants to, he can have a successful coaching career.
1. Pro Bowl on the resume
2. Broke the Bills playoff drought
3. Would start for the Saints, Browns and Vikings this week and that's just off the dome
He is a 6th rounder and to my recollection Brady and Purdy are the only two qbs in modern NFL history to break the preferential treatment show to 1st and 2nd rounders over and over. Hence why he is Justin Fields ( a terrible qb) backup.
Just realized that Yosh Nijman is still rostered. Playing for Carolina right now.
Jaylin Lane takes another punt to the house. Another example of how bad STU was at his job.
Flag was on the giants?
Yes
Herbert vs Tuten today!
Welp that was a disappointment.
Herbert 2 carries 5 yards
Tuten 1 carry 7 yards
Tuten did catch a 16 yard TD FWIW
Thanks missed that
Jaylin Lane out with an ankle injury in Commanders vs Eagles
Tuten out for Broncos game too.
For no better place to put this....
Some smoke on both Belichick and Matt Campbell being on short lists for NFL HC jobs. Belichick with the Falcons and Campbell with the Browns.
How glorious could that implosion be if both were to leave now?
If Campbell ditches PSU after a month and that saga continues, there won't be enough popcorn on this planet for the hate watching I'll do
Totally Agree
As a Falcons fan DEAR GOD NO
.....but as a Hokies fan DEAR GOD YES
Are we sure we dont want unc to continue to smolder? I have zero confidence of Ol Bill turning around a college program (or really any program at this juncture)
Yeah agreed, let Belichick stay at UNC please; don't bail them out of their disastrous hire.
Matt Campbell however - yes please hire him away so Penn State is searching for a coach again (seems very unlikely he would leave for one of the worst job in the NFL)
I go back and forth on this. He's bad. But unc trying to hire someone this late in the cycle...
Apparently Arthur Blank really wanted him last time but ultimately allowed his execs to make the decision. He may be more involved this time since the Morris tenure didnt go so well.
Arthur Blank may have wanted Bill but in what world has the last 12 months shown him that "yep old Bill Belichick still has it!"
I agree but can see Bill getting in a room and then laying it off on how different a model the NCAA is and forced him to divide his time to so many other aspects outside of coaching. The Jordan Hudson part alone should put every team NFL and NCAA on high red flag alert.
I hope Arthur is smart enough to steer far far away from the Bill and Jordon show, but at this point I won't be surprised by anything the Falcons do.
As my wife often reminds me, "you choose to love this team that makes you miserable"
Oh, shit, didn't notice the Falcons reference. I retract my earlier gif, and substitute this one:
UNC fans would rejoice even if the admin hated it.
Interesting that Harbaugh (John) got fired for not making post season. Apparently his agent had 7 calls fifteen minutes after the news broke.
The more interesting part of that (I don't have the link in front of me) is the reporter also noted at the time, there were only 6 job openings.
This is who I hope the Browns go after. Just the revenge chip on his shoulder in division would be amazing.
I hope the Falcons hire him. Rumors are that he was asked to fire Monken, and he said no, so he got the can himself. Let him bring Monken to ATL, and keep Ulbrich as DC, and I'll be happy. Still would need a ST coach, though, as the Falcons' ST were worse than the Hokies' ST this year.
As a ravens fan i'm very torn on how to feel. Definitely surprised since he was a 44 yard field goal (should be made) from winning a 3rd straight division title (in a good division too). But it also didn't feel like he was going to get this team over the hump. It's strange man
It feels a lot like the James Franklin firing from PSU.
I sure hope the two cases go in opposite directions with PSU down and Ravens up.
Well apparently he and Lamar don't get along any more. The owners value the QB more than the coach. Not sure I agree with the decision, but it was theirs to make.
Lots of good coaches out there, not to many MVPs out there. There are 7 active coaches this season that won a superbowl, only 4 active MVPs
Tuten 3 carries for 47 yards on 3 straight plays in the 1st quarter against Buffalo down to the 3 yard line. Then they don't let him punch it in. Pass to someone else instead gets the TD.
He's having a good game. Nice to see.
Goes for 47 in three plays to start the game....
.....gets ONE more carry the rest of the game. Did Brent Pry take over Jacksonville today?
Crazy.
They've got too many running backs IMO. The Jags need to cut someone. I would love for Tuten to get a legit chance somewhere
RBs only had 15 carries. They ran two gimmicks to a WR. I just dont understand why they dont get more. Etienne averaged 6.7 ypc and Tuten 12.8 ypc but they only got 14 touches.
Etn is unrestricted fa
Franklin should try and pick him up. He probably still has eligibility
Edmunds on the field for da Bears today.
No SB for them....only glad to see the fairytale end because I want Daniels to do it first between him and Williams
