I think this is encouraging. Glad he'll be a part of it

I'm also encouraged by this

Outside it's night time, but inside it's LeDay

Doing the smart things along with the cash.....some folks are getting to it. Sands, BOV, and Whit aren't playing around.

I would hope he would be able to recognize who can and can't manage a team and a game. Might not be much help in assessing recruiting chops, but I think there are enough stats around that to tell who can land big time players.

Plan for the worst and hope for the best, not the other way around.

Iirc this was suggested for one of our previous hires.
I wholeheartedly support using these guys as resources.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

Im glad for all of this.
1. The BOV action (finally)
2. Arians involvement (finally involving VT grads whom REALLY know this business)
3. The pitch from Whit that made these gears all start to turn.

Why? Why did it take so long. The evidence was there. These people get paid to do this. Why did disaster have to happen before they acted?

In my profession, you get fired for waiting this long when the answer was visible in front of you.

Pain is Temporary, Chicks Dig Scars
Glory is Forever, Let's Go Hokies!!

My theory is that it didn't take this long to understand the problem and identify the solution. It took this long to get the proper people on board and find the money. I'd like to believe what we're seeing is a bit of a dog and pony show for something that's been going on behind the scenes for a year or so.

Why now?

We've had a pretty good run over the past 30 years of being able to make chicken salad out of chicken shit and our leadership thought that we could just recapture that magic. With the program bottoming out, we couldn't ignore reality anymore.

I also just read yesterday that we supposedly were one of the very few schools who turned a profit in football during/after COVID. And while that sounds good on paper, the realization there is that everyone else took that time to invest heavily to prepare for the new world of college sports and we stayed the course. Mind you, this also aligns with the timing of when Fuente should have been fired and the debacle over the presser where many suspected he was going to fire Fuente and was overruled.

Wouldn't at all be shocked to find out later that Whit has been beating this drum internally for a while and it falling on deaf ears. And now he's essentially taking a victory lap with the retreat having a resounding "I fucking told you this would happen" theme. Go back and look at that presser from 2020 and some of the responses he gives makes a heck of a lot of sense if you think about it this way

So Whit ain't all bad!

"Take care of the little things and the big things will come."

Whit isnt all bad even though he has failed and keep football competitive. If he manages to see this resurgence through it would help his legacy a lot.

To be fair he was in a thankless position replacing a legendary hall of fame coach that every day we learn won in spite of everything around him.

To be fair on the other hand it doesn't seem like whit did too much to help himself until like last month. But we aren't privy to any behind the scenes stuff.

As a seat owner during Covid, we were given several options. Donate the money to tech instead of tickets for double the hokie points, let them hold the money, and use the money for the next years tickets (my option), or get a refund. I think Tech was amazed by how many did options 1 and 2.

Tech also slashed salaries across the board at the athletic department that were apparently not matched by the other departments.

I had the same options to me for the Carolina Hurricanes at the time. Decided to keep my money with them to act as a down payment for when we could go back. Glad I did, had a great few years of awesome seats before they priced me out last year.

Yeah, and Whit called them out on it during the retreat. I think I even called it out on the thread last month about that being a bit of a red flag about what had been going on.

Bruce Arians was in studio for the Pat Mcafee Show today. VT and his role came up.

Stressed the financial commitment from the university and how they need to get a GM in first before hiring a coach. Wants the coach to be "charismatic" and "know how to coach". Not sure how plugged in Arians was, but seems like an ever so slight dig at Pry.

Yes,that's the Hokie Bird riding a camel. Why'd you ask?

This is the most logical move VT athletics has made in a while
