It just so happens that today is that day!

Leg for Cousin Baby Billy GIF
Uncle Baby Billy, who might be the greatest character in recent television
I'm 2 episodes in and it's the best show I've seen since Shoresy.
You're in for one hell of a ride
Senate ain't played nobody PAWWWWWL
It was a bye week for them this past weekend...
The Alabama football -> Senate pipeline is so strange.
Finebaum 2026: Somehow Dumber than Tuberville
I think Finebaum is a pretty smart/savvy person. He plays a character, and he knows it.
Tuberville is a fucking idiot. I've heard so many stories about how dumb he is. I think it was Spencer Hall who said something to the effect of "if you ever have imposter syndrome, just remember that Tommy Tuberville is a senator."
That's to say nothing about either person's politics - just a judgement on their intelligence.
And guess who hired him at Cincinnati. Lol
I had the exact same thought scrolling through this thread for the first time (right now). So glad it didn't take long for someone to say it
We need a new AD, right now. In fact its already too late.
Finebaum is certainly one person I would not mind leaving the broadcast booth. I'm sure he'd argue a 4 loss Alabama team deserves in the playoffs.
Gotta pander to the only audience you have.
how's he plan on getting the Auburn fanbase vote
How old is he? I'm so fucking tired of old men that look like turtles, great grandpas and corpses running the country.
He looks like a fucking turtle.
70
Thanks. That's way too old.
Curious, at what age do you feel is too old? The blatant agism out there is pretty amazing. Try getting a job if you are laid off and over 50. I'm in good shape, but know some people trying to get another job when they are >50 and the blatant bigotry of people who say things like too experienced or over-qualified (translation: too old) is impressive.
I only think about age when it comes to the political offices. I want someone who has to consider living with the consequences of their actions for more than 5-10 years haha.
that's a really good point
60. There shouldn't be anyone elected into Congress or a major federal government position over 60.
Point made below by HomeBrew. These assholes are making decisions for which they will not be around to feel the effects of. I too am only referring to politics. My father at 70 is as sharp and in shape as he has ever been and could continue working if he wanted to, but he doesn't need to. I think experience for business acumen is a really great thing and it is dumb if companies won't hire for being too experienced or over qualified.
kudos to your dad!
When I retired from the full time thing, I LLC'd myself so I could stay as attached as I wanted...wound up working about 30% of the time over the course of several years.
Thanks! I can only hope to be in the same condition he is when I'm at his age. He looks 55.
His best friend is 71 and "retired," and is now a sub contractor working for the same company he retired from. Still seems he is working 40-50 hours a week but the guy will tell you he can never have enough money. It sounds like the way you did it is the way to go! Fishing is way more important anyways.
Okay, no one over 60 can hold major political office because they won't have to live with the long-term consequences is the logic.
So, I'll counter with no one who does not pay net taxes into the system should not be allowed to vote because they do not live with the consequences of what they want government priorities to be. Seems only fair. And yes, old people and young people both want to spend other people's money, that is true. But if they do not have a net payment of taxes paid over benefits, they don't live with the consequences, so no voting for them, right?
yikes this thread is off the rails
If there would be an age limit, I think whatever the mandatory IRA withdrawal age is might be a good number for being eligible to run or to be appointed.
Some independently conducted annual cognitive fitness test would be nice as well...for anyone involved in deciding national policy in any of the 3 branches.
Hard disagree. If you are a citizen subject to the decisions of the gubmint, you get to vote on the decision makers.
And people over 60 are subject to them too. Many people live to 70 or 80. So why should they not be elected?
We probably should just drop the subthread, but my point is that it is amazing (well, actually, it doesn't amaze me at all) that we have so many people who are so bigoted against old people and think that is a good thing.
There is plenty of precident about mandatory retirement ages. The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) set the retirement age at 60 for single pilot roles, and 65 for multi-pilot roles. The FAA mandates that ATC retire at 56. In the military, for most enlisted personnel and officers in grades below Flag Officer, age 62 is a common mandatory retirement age. Flag offices can stay until 64.
I would welcome a mandatory retirement age for politicians, as well.
I would rather any serving member of congress becomes ineligible for re-election unless they pass an actual balanced budget.
1Million Legs
I'm bigoted against old politicians who clearly have lost cognitive ability making decisions that affect every citizen in the country. I'm not bigoted against old people.
This is a very weird hill for you to die on. Amazing.
Once you get to a certain age, you kind of have to choose one.
Audible laugh out loud here, thank you for that.
Leg.
Agree. People usually winding down and retiring at 60 and I feel politicians just getting going at that age. Most are out of touch.
good friend kept making it to the final interview..."you are just what we are looking for"...and when they find out he is in his 50's, it's "oh...well we'll let you know"
I think the impact of aging on ability to lead/manage is an individual thing. I'm 70 and could easily direct a federal or state conservation agency....probably better now than when I was 50. But I also know 60 year olds that should have already packed it in
For me, no matter what I'm mentally/intellectually capable of doing, there is no denying I'm very much on the clock and there are too many other things that are way more important to me than being in public service full time.
I think for most folks in my bracket that stick with it, it's an ego/control thing. Or they view their job as who they are
I've never understood how that guy had a show on cable television.
He's never been at all interesting.
ESPN seems to be denying pulling him from programming.
It's never good to cross the mouse when the mouse is in charge of your cheese.
Imagine having a sitting Alabama senator with a sports call in show though.
Yeah, something fishy absolutely went on at ESPN yesterday.
Weird how the audio from the call just cut out... must have been in a cell dead zone.
The producer immediately cut the audio as soon as the caller mentioned the rumors, and Pawl moved on pretending the call never happened.
Very odd behavior for that show
Odd that someone with several college degrees (assumed) called in to discuss things with Pawlllll.
While I'm not sure what he did there was wrong, I'm sure the Mouse wasn't pleased with ANYTHING political coming up in ANY of the Disney/ESPN/ABC programs. That said, I'm not going to miss him for whatever length of time he's off the air. His love affair with the SEC is on Beano Cook/ND levels of obsessive and I can't stand anything he's a part of on the air. He's already a divisive character and if he said what he said he just made things much worse for himself, and the Mouse (who already has enough heat to deal with at the moment) has ratings to worry about.
He is just like 90% of the other ESPN personalities, screaming at each other, talking over each other, etc. They literally have a show where 4 people yell over eachother until an announcement mutes 3 of them. In the 90s the personalities screamed because it was exciting, but then it just become like those political talk shows where people just talk over eachother instead of actually saying something worthwhile. If you turned off the sound and hid the network symbol I dont think I could tell the difference between fo news and espn shows its just people yelling over each other.
I dont know anyone that watches either of those networks, so I dont know what the demographics numbers say but I used to watch ESPN all the time and now I dont watch it unless VT is playing. It's terrible and maybe they start getting new announcers that have some basic social decency in the future.
I definitely dont. I gave up on ESPN right around the same time they cancelled Mike & Mike. Around the Horn had it's place, and it was a good one, because it didn't rely on any one person - it wasn't TV personalities, it was local sports writers, and the Mouse went and cancelled that one presumably because (to your point) there wasn't enough yelling.
Man, this thread.
