Watching ECU standing tough with Tulane tonight. Bad look for Sumrall if they lose this game. Currently Tulane up 19-16 but ECU with the ball.
Update: ECU tied at 19 but Tulane drove 75 yards to win on a TD with 35 seconds remaining.
USF goes to undefeated North Texas.
#1 OSU at #17 Illinois...kind of expect this to be a blowout. Seems bettors do too. That Indiana game just looms over Illini.
#8 Bama at #14 Mizzou. Hoping Tigers pull the upset.
ACC wise, we get Pitt with their freshman QB that looked outstanding last week goung to FSU. Both teams are 3-2. Gauls me to cheer for Eat S Pitt and Nardouche but I want Tallahassee to be a dumpster fire again...although for VT coach search we definitely don't want FSU looking for a coach.
Clemson goes to the dreaded Boston College, would be comical if Tigers lose there.
Wolfpack at Irish...meh
Back to other games...maybe game of the week is #7 Indiana at #3 Oregon. Huge impact to Big10 race. Winner likely faces OSU at the end.
At season beginning who would have thought Oklahoma would be #6 and Texas would be out of the rankings.
Late night will have a couple good games.
#18 BYU is at 4-1 Arizona and then you have two 4-1 teams facing off with #21 Arizona State at Utah.
What else are you watching?

Comments
I'll be intrigued to see how people view Cignetti if he doesn't beat one of the top B1G teams this season. Is he going to be tagged as the next James Franklin?
I would hope not. It's not as if he has the same talent level that Franklin has or that he's had so many years of not being able to win them. I'd need to see Indiana as a top 10-15 team for several years with a similar winning percentage against top teams before I'd think of Cignetti that way.
um, Indiana would love to have James Franklin
EDiT: I mean not right now but two years ago
As of right now it would be a very harsh comparison. Penn State has much more talent, and Cignetti has an offense that "goes for it," while Franklin's tenure has been largely defined by more conservative, win with defense in a rock fight type games, especially the last few years.
Well that comment aged like milk lol
Honestly, couldn't be happier about it. Seeing a school like Indiana have this type of resurrection means there is hope for us. I also immediately knew when I saw the final score that my comment aged like milk haha
You sweet summer child... Maybe if we get into the SEC. As long as Virginia Tech is in the ACC, we are a couple notches below, Indiana, Vanderbilt, etc..
Hey even G5 teams surprise sometimes. With cash injection (not just some of the hopes and dreams of cash injection) and the right coach we can get back to at least being in the conversation every year and not just a "remember them" conversation
We need a big cash injection though. Our total football operating budget in fiscal year 2024 was about $40 million. Penn State just paid James Franklin $49 million to never coach another game for them.
They spent more than our entire football budget to fire their coach...
I'm getting off topic here, but I think there's a belief that the $30 million per year donation increase is going to close the funding gap between us and a lot of other schools.
It does not.
Whoa, wait, they actually fired him? holy cow, I had not see that until reading your post. God that is mind-boggling that they have that kind of money. Wish the people who were attacked by Sandusky had gotten that much.
TV money gives them $30M a year more than us. Helps greatly on these kind of calls
Only until the actual big boys implement an uneven distribution.
True as well
Final score Tulane 26-19 over ECU
edit- drinking-didn't see the edit to OP( it's 2am and I was just finishing up some work -cut me some slack lol)
Interested if this was an autocorrect or speech to text- as it's usually 'It galls me'...then again with Gaul being France, they often gall me so maybe it fits...
No Gauls unfortunately was my own faux pas ...typing faster than my brain
Thankful Penn State would owe Franklin an ungodly amount if they fired him. I think I saw a number north of $80 million. Otherwise I think we may well have been fighting with them for candidates
Buyout is $56M from what I've seen. Still pretty ungodly
Ungodly buyout it his. Holy moly
Tonight is #24 USF at 5-0 North Texas. North Texas is actually favored by home field spread. This is one of those games that defines the "sometimes easier path to playoffs at G5" in terms of coaching jobs
Still 3 undefeated teams in the American Conference with Navy, North Texas and Memphis.
Looking forward to this game. The winner of this game gets a big boost towards the playoffs. USF and Memphis appear to be the best two for that one auto spot with Boise already having multiple losses.
3 TD's and 4 turnovers during the 1st quarter, this game is already drunk.
6 TDs and 5 Turnovers by halftime
Announcers keep saying this game is a sellout but ton of empty seats for a really small stadium.
Yeah, it's based on tickets sold and has nothing to do with the number of people in the seats. I never liked that definition of sold out, but it is what it is. Or maybe they are just lying. Who knows?
I mean it's a term about selling so .... I guess we could call a full stadium a fire marshall warning or something else
Also most leagues/stadiums define a sell out as above a certain percentage that's well below 100%. When I worked for an AHL team a few years back I think anything over 84% of tickets sold counted as a sell out.
So youre saying that the term sell out has sold out to propaganda?
7 TDs and now 6 turnovers but interception may be overturned by targeting
Ruled no foul so USF has ball around North Texas 10 yard line already up a TD
8 TDs and 6 Turnovers. USF beginning to separate
9 TDs and 7 Turnovers although the South Florida defender should have been hit with an unsportsmanlike before the TD but instead assessed after
Game about over the way North Texas keeps giving the ball away
USF with 4 TDs in 3 minutes and 28 seconds of clock between end of 1st half and beginning of 2nd. Turned a 21-14 deficit into a 42-21 lead.
#7 for USF is a real jerk
Agreed, honestly wish the offensive guy coming from the end zone had cleaned his clock and caused him to fumble.
Holy sh*t...#1 for North Texas just broke a 60 yard screen....that kid is FAST...like David Wilson fast
10 TDs now
Yea, USF #7 may have just opened Pandoras Box.
I generally don't care about USF at all, but this means I root against USF for the remainder of the season. Fuck #7. Wish he'd had his clock cleaned.
11 TDs...USF with another explosive play. You would not think there had been so many turnovers with how bad these Defenses have gotten burned by big plays
Fat Man TD...let the O lineman play fullback and fall into the end zone. Game Over.... 56-28 now.
Rutgers beating Washington at Halftime 13-10
Wrong thread.
But Will Love (kicker, VT commit, younger brother of current VT kicker) nailed a 52 harder for the win tonight.
Spartanburg HS 33, Dorman HS 30.
Is that longer than four hours?
Insert GIF of UVA guy squeezing water bottle doing hard things together
Trying out YouTube TV Quad View for first time. Its pretty good.
Got Bama/Mizzou, Stanford/SMU, Ohio State/Illinois, and Pitt/FSU all at same time
Sounds dangerous.
Kind of....making me want a bigger screen.
Also got to figure out if I can change which games audio is coming through.
You should be able to scroll thru them..leave it on the window of the game you want audio from.
On some devices, there will be a little EQ symbol in upper left corner showing which game has active audio
If you want to just watch one game for a while can click the "ok/enter" button.
It is a pretty nice feature, one of the few things that keeps me paying more and more every month for YouTube tv.
The only thing I wish is you could actually pick the four games you want...
You can build your own multiview in YouTube TV now. Not every game will be available but it's better than previous years.
Most games are available, I haven't had a problem yet not being able to put a game I want in the quad box.
The solution for wanting a bigger screen is having a second TV where you put the main game you want to watch on. Then you monitor the scores on the quad box.
My issue is when wanting to see a specific set of four games and it limits me to three I want plus a random news broadcast.
I had our game on the big TV today and then multiview on the small TV. I wanted the Indiana/Oregon game and it only allowed me to select two other CFB games with the 4th box being news. This has happened before and to make it worse, when I tried it on my phone this afternoon I could get Indiana/Oregon plus three CFB games. It shouldn't vary by device. I know it's a minor thing and hopefully they will continue to improve it.
This has never happened to me. Really weird.
Stanford is having a player taken out on ambulance. Not replays of what happened to him so far.
Bama also has a man down that forced a commercial.
Ohio State has already gotten away with three blatant PIs in the 1st Quarter...no wonder no one scores on them.
Finally got them for one.
Welp they let Ohio State get away with another PI in the end zone so Illini forced to kick a FG. Corner ran right through the WR with back to the ball in the end zone.
Pitt up 14-7 and looking good against FSU
FSU just tackled the wide receiver with no PI call leading to them getting an interception in the red zone
Leads to a 10-14 point swing as FSU goes down and gets a TD with 6 seconds left in the half
End of half was crazy. Three straight plays with zero on the clock due to penalties. Almost got Pitt in FG range.
FSU showing what a clutch quarterback can do.
Six second left in the half, under pressure, hits his man in the end zone to go up by 7.
Never should have had the ball. Pitt got screwed hard there.
Who'd of thought fsu would be 0-3 in the ACC after beating 'Bama?
That might suck for VT when fsu fires Norvell
Um anyone that watched BC last year
Mizzou Bama honestly has been the best game so far. A 17-17 slugfest
Mizzou QB just broke an Alabama LB's ankles bigtime on his way to the end zone with the tying TD
UCLA blowing the doors off Michigan State after last weeks upset of Pedo St. Clear the new OC is effectively getting these guys going
Ohio State gets away with blatant Facemask of the QB making it 4th and Goal at goal line
Like the 5th or 6th blown call inside the ten yard line
At least this time Illini got the TD
AnOSU is the defending champs, doesn't that mean they get at least 7 free penalties a game?
Disgusting pro-Bama bias from Tessitore &Co here on this review. Dude had the first down by half a yard.
Garbage call upholding that. Should be first down Mizzou
Yeah no idea what they were looking at
Dammit. TD Bama. Mizz D gave up 2 4th downs on the drive
Time for a 6 minute Pitt Drive
Will take the TD....FSU has some time but hopefully it goes quickly
Pitt up 10 with 2 and a half mins left.
FSU might not be as back as initially thought
I think Norvell's likely out by the end of the season, another open coaching seat we'll have to contend with
TD Pitt! FSU stands emptying like UNC's during a hurricane
More like UNCs stands every game at halftime
Alabama escapes Mizzou
Last gasp here from Florida State.
Do you think Malzahn is the interim HC if they lose this one?
Unfortunately something has to happen
Pitt gives up 60 yard TD but escapes onside kick
Announcer just said if FSU loses it's EIGHT STRAIGHT ACC LOSSES. Love it
I think FSU has been a bit unlucky, but I also think that opening win over Bama was a bit of a perfect storm: Gusbus with a whole offseason to scheme it up against his old nemesis, and Ty Simpson making his first career start on the road.
Of course Wake Forest starting QB is sitting out THIS week
FSU just did one of the most cheaply faked injuries I've ever seen
But with no timeouts it's a ten second run off and then a 40 second running clock
FSU defensive meltdown...GAME OVER by stupidity
Shoving the center over while he still has the ball in his hands is a new one. Though our game still has too much time left in it, we might do something dumber before it's over
Soooooo fucking tired of targeting.
Get the fuck rid of the rule.
Oops...wrong thread but point stands
Bahahahaha 8 ACC Ls in a row for Free Shoes U
Texas choked against Florida but is on track to beat Oklahoma at the moment
Oregon and Indiana deadlocked at 20 with 10 minutes left
Indiana now up a TD and driving in Oregon territory
Not sure what Franklin's buyout is but man, if he loses to Northwestern, I'm sure it will be accounted for in quick oder.
Woof hadn't even looked at it. PEDO loses three in a row
Wake Forest up 39-7 against Oregon State with their backup QB. Oregon State on its way to 0-7
Wrong read. And possibly concussed.
Edit: Wrong thread
PEDO THREE IN A ROW...UNREAL
Boom 😁😁
Pedo State loses once again.
Holy shit...we fire Pry and all of a sudden PSU falls apart.
Franklin might actually be done there
I don't think they want to deal with his buyout. I spent an hour last week on one of their fan boards. There is a lot of discontent however they recognize they are likely stuck with him due to that buyout.
Indiana in the red zone up 7 with 3 minutes left
The James Franklin buyout is $48.6 million. Sheesh.
Indiana up 10 with 2:06 to go
Texas wins 23-6 over #6 Oklahoma.
Indiana may be top 4 after this week as they just intercepted the ball and can kneel out the win now
Colorado takes down #24 Iowa State, upsets all over today
This is why coaching is so important for us Everyone sucks. Everyone might have a very questionable loss on their resume. No one has backups any more. its just getting crazy and VT needs to get in that mix
Yeah I think there are going to be a few playoff teams with multiple losses with some bad losses mixed in. Not in the top 4 but the last 8 in will probably include some 3 loss teams. It's good that Bama, Georgia, and the other blue bloods cannot hoard all of the 5 Stars on their three deep anymore.
This is why I think paying players has been better for the sport. The talent is significantly more evenly distributed.
As if PEDO losing wasnt bad enough for PSU fans, apparently Drew Allar had to be carted to the locker room right near the end
Out for the season per Franklin
And now so is Franklin !
Drew Allar is the Tony Morelli of Christian Hackenburgs
Indiana may be the only team that can slow down the OSU steamroll of the BIG10.
Michigan will beat them
Well, Virginia Tech and Iowa State and Yale all appear to be in total freefall. At least the Penn State loss is something for me to celebrate.
Is Yale really that bad? I know they blew a big lead today and Harvard is looking really good. I usually don't check into Yale until the Harvard game.
Just that they've lost 2 in a row. All 3 of them have now. Those 3 were a combined 9-3 with VT having all the losses. Now 9-9 @ 5-2, 2-2 and 2-5. Things were really looking good for me overall in late September.
Someone on USCe with the last name Fuller just ran for a 72 yd TD against LSU
Wisconsin is losing to Iowa 20-0 coming up on halftime lol
I'm shocked Wisconsin/Fickel has gone so poorly. Really thought that was a fantastic hire years ago.
he couldn't be a worse fit for Wisconsin if he were lactose intolerant
Fit is overrated. He's just nor winning games.
USC looking like they will take down Michigan
USC finished the job 31-13.
Did someone light off a smoke bomb at the Texas Tech game?
Fireworks at halftime of their Homecoming game. No air movement to blow it away and it was overcast which held it low to the ground.
Kind of eerie how both Pry and now Franklin's seasons and now both careers just unraveled in a short span this season. Close loss to ranked team, boat raced next game, then the wheels came off in the third.
Would also go on the record saying I want nothing to do with Franklin as an HC candidate should he become available. Snake oil salesman.
I think Pry has soured that tree.
I'd say Pry's has been in motion for a while now.
But it does seem like both lost the locker room
Yeah Pry probably had the locker room hanging on by a thread this offseason. No way they just quit like they did that quickly if things weren't already iffy. Pry's comment that this is the best roster he's had at VT in the offseason..wow talk about coach speak.
I mean, from a composite perspective it was. The high end wasn't as high as last year, but the floor was definitely the highest it's been.
But I'm picking nits... toxic positivity seems to be a trend in the last 2 years of the pry era.
I don't think Pry's career ever raveled
Utah boat raced #21 Arizona State 42-10. ASU just never looked like they came to play. It wasnt even as close as the score. ASU's lone touchdown came after Utah had all their backups in. Utah effectively stopped running their offense mid way through 3rd quarter and just ran the ball from then on. I think the backup QB threw one pass and comically it went for like 30 yards with run after catch.
ASU also was starting Jeff Sims...yeah, the same guy who started at Georgia Tech in 2020---wasn't good there, then went to Nebraska and was even worse there.
Now has somehow found his way to ASU and a 6th year of eligibility.
This is why the current system is broken---these "professional college athletes"---Sims has zero professional prospects, zero actual NIL, yet he's getting a paycheck and a scholarship just because.
In other news ODU got it handed to them by Marshall 48-24 yesterday. Guess we would lose to Marshall by 100
Arizona choked choked down the stretch to lose to BYU last night. I tuned in thinking I would get to see a BYU loss as Arizona was up like 10 with 7 or 8 minutes left. I was mistaken. Also a QB wearing 47 is criminal. Someone get Bear Bachmeier a better number.
He picked 47 as he was a FB/MLB in high school and says it reminds him to play with a "Fullback Mentality"
It doesn't make him look any less like a kicker or punter out there haha
Hot Take:
Indiana has the best resume in CFB and should be ranked #1 right now. A dozen other logos on the side of that helmet and they are #1
That's a cold take. They have 3 number 1 votes in the AP, and are #3 overall.
Miami has 3 ranked wins including beating Notre Dame. Notre Dame got hosed in the rankings after losing against two ranked opponents by a combined 4 points, dropping from #8 to #24. They flattened their next four opponents. Notre Dame has another ranked opponent this weekend and a win there probably puts them back in the top 10.
Outside of beating Oregon, Indiana's only other ranked wins was Illinois and if wasnt for a couple lucky bounces late against Iowa they would have lost that game.
