Vick said Norfolk State officials reached out to him and that he is intrigued by the potential opportunity of giving back to the Hampton Roads community that has long supported him.
Vick lacks formal coaching experience but said, "I know how to lead and I know what it takes."
He said he would hire a seasoned staff that would assist him in transitioning to the position.

Huh, imagine that. (Ducks)
Does he want to do this? Coaching is not an easy job... long hours. Also, can Norfolk State afford a seasoned staff?
Seasoned != good
I know of a DC that's looking for a job...
/s
I love it, good chance to get former Hokies into coaching and gain some experience. Even in our down turn, NSU would be a solid feeder school.
Brilliant. Let Vick learn the ropes for 3-5 years and he'll be in prime position to take over for Pry
Idk with all that QB experience I bet Vick is already a better timeout caller than Pry will ever be 😂
can't be worse
"Alright kid, here's what you do. You get the snap and then look downfield. If nobody is immediately open, you use your superhuman speed and agility to break through with a 40 yard gain. Got that? Good, now go get em!"
Spring camp is just having the QBs ride the Experience over and over again
This might now be my favorite thing that I've ever seen...
That's hilarious.
How has that not been posted here before now?
Yes, how have I never seen this before...ever?
Probably because it's 20+ years old?
^^This^^
Keep thinking that wasn't very long ago but the face looking back in the mirror reminds me it has been almost a quarter century since that commercial ran.
With one sentence you have ruined my day.
And here I was trying to see if it was a Super Bowl commercial (it wasn't, just a regular one that Nike ran for a season.... ad quality has fallen so far) and there you go with this bomb. Not cool!
I just saw Sacramento State wants to hire Vick. To quote Walter Sobchak: "Has the whole world gone crazy?!"
Apparently everyone in the Tri-State area forgot what an airplane looks like, so I'm leaning toward "yes"
$50MIL IN NIL?!? WTF?
Apparently it's contingent on Sacramento State joining the Pac 12.
Wow. If he pans out there, VT may not have the resources to bring him home...
Unsure he'd want to come ack to VT
Yeah, I'm sure the guy who currently hosts this podcast wouldn't want to come back to VT if he ends up being successful at coaching.
100% He is VT. Hell, we wouldn't be on the map without Vick.
Dwight Vick, who hosts the show, is not the same as Michael Vick
I haven't listened to it for a bit, but when I did it was always Dwight and Mike co-hosting
Spotify Description: Introducing The Vick757 Show "talking all things tech" featuring
former All-Conference Virginia Tech Offensive Lineman Dwight Vick and Virginia Tech Sports Hall of Fame Quarterback Michael Vick
fair enough. I stand corrected
In college football, anything is possible.
More money than you can shake a stick at, with few enforceable rules.
That $50m number is being poorly reported. Like, it has to be over multiple years, and includes house money, or something like that. That's about 2.5x what Oregon is allegedly spending on this roster.
I heard Sacramento State just became Google's wife so the number is legit
Good on him. While I get that #7 is a highly controversial figure IMO the man did his time and if he wants to get into coaching I'm glad there are schools that'll talk to him about it.
Rich Rod was totally overmatched and incompetent at Michigan- unlimited resources. Total failure in every aspect. Then he gets the Arizona job and fosters a toxic sexual harassment environment and is fired in disgrace. If he can coach at a P4 program after that, then Vick can coach wherever the fuck he wants. Morals went out the window long long ago in major college football.
Did more time for his crime than almost anyone else. I remember after the trial they discussed normal sentencing for the same crime and it was an average of 8 months at a low level correctional facility.. Vick got over 2 years at a Maximum security prison. They made an example of him.
...because he lied. He lied to the feds multiple times. That's why they threw the book at him. If he was honest with them they would have offered him a better deal.
They also reversed every precedent in the book and took back his signing bonus sending him into bankruptcy. Even murderers families got to keep their signing bonuses.
I was involved in that investigation tangentially and this is an accurate statement.
Edit: That being said, I wish nothing but the best for Mike and hope he succeeds wherever he goes.
Congrats, Mike
Congrats to Michael Vick, and good luck!
One of my favorite things I found out on here is that Michael Vick's daughter is the QB for her college flag football team.
"Oh sweet, their QB is a girl, this should be easy, bro."
I honestly don't know what kind of athlete she is, but c'mon, it's probably safe to assume she humiliated some frat bros on the football field.
Really? I'm thinking there has to be some highlight video out there. Can somebody who isn't so busy at work get their sleuth on and dig some up?
Sounds like Dwight will have some kind of role
They couldn't do a better photoshop for my man? lol
Good for Mike, but I'm already annoyed at the inevitable calls for him to come to Tech.
Let's see him actually coach first.
If he's good, then the chatter should start.
I'm just hoping Whit doesn't decide to schedule a home and home.
He's probably already got a 30 year home and home agreement drafted.
No. He coaches NSU for 3-5 years. Then comes to VT
I think everyone agrees that Pry's seat is hot. If things don't turn around significantly, he could find himself out of a job within two years—a new DC, OL Coach, and S&C coach may buy him some time, but it's not looking great.
Vick could go undefeated in his first couple of seasons, and it'd still seem like an incredibly thin resume to hire as our next Head Coach.
He has a lot of VT bona fides, plenty of college & pro experience, and is a significant figure in our most important recruiting ground...but all of that wouldn't overcome the major concerns I would have about hiring a coach from a low-level MAC program who has a hot start.
Much higher likelihood that someone in that situation is simply a flash in the pan vs. the next Deion Sanders.
Look at Deion. Great where he started, it has not 100% converted to the P4 level. Colorado isn't even playing for the lead in their conference let alone nationally.
Agreed, but he's still recruiting well and (were he to stick around, which is unlikely) seems he may have the formula to be successful.
It's already started.
Deion Sanders had the cache- NFL HOF, media personality, 2 sport star, dynamic personality- to lure Travis Hunter- a 5 star recruit and now heisman winner to Jackson Fucking State. Yes. So stop there. Anyone that thinks a 5 star recruit will come to blacksburg because Mike Vick is the football coach only is kidding themselves. I know this is loser talk/hater talk- but let's see how good a coach Prime is when his son- a first round draft pick QB, and the best player in college leave after this year. His last 2 classes are 37th and 46th... I honestly see no correlation to Prime.. and lighting won't strike twice. If he can coach and proves that- great, but he will have to do it without a generational 2 way player and a first round QB.
and he still lost games with that talent!
Didnt even make the watered down Big XII championship
He won't have to worry about it because we will be coaching for the Dallas Cowboys, which is a hilarious scenario but also you can see something Jerry doing and something I am actively rooting for just because.
I will laugh and laugh and laugh if Jerry hires Deion.
Jerry fired Jimmy Johnson in his prime. A great football coach and talent scout (this is the part that has been missing) because he thinks coaching is overrated. To defend Jerry a bit, today's guys calling off x jet 2 right base cross echo jam high cross on 2 from the waffle house menu aren't fucking leaders or head coaches- the dufus in Miami, the guy losing 10 games with Burrow, the Jay fucking grudens, etc- they are play callers, nothing more. So jerry is onto something there, IMO. But he still thinks coaching is overrated and he is the brains behind the operation. 1996 was a long time ago Jerrah...
Colorado just took Kaidon Salter from Liberty out of the portal to be their starting QB next year.
Vick is bringing in another Hokie to his staff. Andre Kendrick will be the Running Back coach at Norfolk State.
And in other Hokie alumni news, former Vick teammate and quarterback Bryan Randall was just announced to join William and Mary as their new quarterback coach!
When were they team mates? Or is anyone that played with Dwight, Mike, or Marcus a Vick teammate?
Teammates on the Falcons at least for a cup of coffee. Randall was signed by Atlanta as a UDFA in 2005.
Randall seems like the kind of former player that can be a good coach. Had talent, but couldn't win on just that, had to play within the system and understand the offense. It seems like the ultra-talented types can't make the transition to coaching. Vick as head coach is probably a better fit than Vick as QB coach. I think his time away from the game changed his perspective and his time with the Eagles at an older age made him understand what it means to study the game to get an advantage. No matter how things go, I am glad alumni are getting a shot, it could pay off for us in the long run.
One of my favorite VT QBs. He was a winner, team player, got better as his career progressed.
"One of my favorite VT QBs ... got better as his career progressed."
Once again, maybe my biggest pet peeve with VT coaches is the total inability to get QBs to actually grow and develop. Hasn't happened since Tyrod. Had another chance with Drones last year and ... nope. Have 2 chances next year with Pop and Drones. Let's see if the staff can do anything positive with either one of them. I've got very low expectations and, until I actually see otherwise, will assume no. Hopefully the staff can prove me wrong. I mean Georgia did eventually learn to beat Alabama, so it can happen.
I'd wager at least one of Pop or Drones won't be around after the next portal window. Unfortuneatly
I would say those wagering odds depend greatly on who is actually hired as the OC (and who his support staff is). If that ever happens...
I would love to see what the two of them could do in Taylors 2 quarterback sets (if he is hired)
Drones felt a bit like late stage logan.... Excelled early with some unsustainable battering ram play, then spent an off season trying to become a different kind of passer and lost the original benefits / couldn't make the passing part of the game replace the battering ram side of things fast enough
I wonder if the money we saved on coordinators would be well spent hiring the best proven QB developer we can afford.
I think the change in coordinators may help Pry become a better head whistle. No sauces, but I believe he was putting too much time and attention in trying to drag especially Marve to a decent job that he was not paying enough attention to his primary responsibilities like time management, etc. Having competent coordinators who can do their own job could help Pry a lot.
Agreed. The best coaches can identify their own strength and weakness and build their program accordingly.
Siefkes and Taylor, in theory, should be the right fit for Pry. Two X's and O's nerds who can focus entirely on gameplan and strategy. Frees up Pry to be a CEO-style HC which plays to his strengths.
Totally slipped my mind that Hokie football great Bryan Randall is under ex-UVA coach Mike London at William and Mary? I also found it interesting that ex-UVA defensive specialist Ras-I Dowling was the Co-Defensive Coordinator/Secondary Coach. I Saw a Facebook post of him visiting Coach Pry on campus in his W&M gear.
The clips of their spring game look dope. Iverson and Tyrod in attendance, along with plenty more I'm sure.
I hope Vick is successful there and finds his way to VT at some point in the future
Hopefully the plan is to turn Norfolk St. into an FCS juggernaut and feeder school for VT
Has reportedly fired his defensive coordinator and two defensive position coaches after 1-6 start where defense was allowing almost 35 points per game.
He's just distracted since he's in negotiations to become VT's head coach. /s
He is demonstrating willingness to make changes to staff based on sub optimal performance.
Assume he needs no permission to do so, either. Also not afraid to buck the norm and chuck 'em quick.
Am I the only one who saw this post pop up and thought it was about VT's head coach search, and had a mild freak-out for a moment?
100%, read "Michael Vick in discussions" and thought, you've got to be kidding me!
Nope. Got me also.
Rob knew what he was doing bumping that thread.
Live look at Itrepeter2000
/s
While I may sometimes be a bit nefarious...in this case though I overlooked the environment and simply didnt think a 1-6 Vick bit of news warranted a new thread. My math wasnt mathing...
2+2=5 for medium values of 2.
There are lies, damn lies, and statistics.
I just hear the video of:
They say that all men are created equal. But you look at me and you look at Samoa Joe, and you can see that just isn't true ... (or something along those lines).
I dont want to hear mv7 to vt for at least 5 years, 8 years optimally
Nah, 8 years from now Franklin will be celebrating his 2nd Natty at VT
In eight years Franklin will be celebrating his 7th consecutive 10 win season and 7th consecutive ACCCG loss
At this point, I'd gladly take it
Same. Would probably include at least one playoff appearance.
I always thought Tyrod might be good coach, if he ever wants to pursue it after he's retired from the NFL, but at this point he might play till he's 40
Vick -> Davis.... TD!
1999 was an amazing year and Michael Vick was the magician leading the way. Fun times. And now becoming distant memories.
