Cal scored 3 TDs against a UNC team that had allowed 34, 38, and 48 to the three P4 teams they had faced. If UNC just held on to the ball they come out with a win. Cal was forced to punt on 8 of 12 possessions. That also was the 3rd highest amount of points UNC has scored this year. They put up 41 against Richmond and 20 against Charlotte.
As bad as we have been, we still have managed 20 or more points in all but one game.

I'm happy for him. Wish he was playing for us, but from his freshman year I never expected him to be on the team in 2025, so I'm not upset he's not on the team.
But shout out to all the Delane sucks actually truthers last off-season calling me crazy for thinking he's good

Agreed, after watching the last gasps of Pry, I don't blame anyone for looking for a different landing spot.
Also, with Delane playing well at LSU and Mose Philips barely cracking the field at Missou (1 GP, 1 Tackle) I think there is more clarity at this point as to where some of our issues in the Secondary were stemming from.

If FSU were to fire Norvell, I would expect them to make a major play for Franklin as well.
That would be about ~$110 mil in buyouts between the two....insane.
Clark Lea (without Kill and Beck) is Fool's Gold to me. While he deserves enough credit for getting them and his 9th year Sr. QB to Vandy, I don't think he is successful without them. He may know that well enough to stay there.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
He built a team that dominates in the trenches. Kill/Beck came up with a great scheme and 'found' a great qb, but running a team is so much more than that.
We'll see what happens when pavia leaves

True, but pretty much all the dominating in the trenches occurred after Beck and Kill arrived.
Watching Vandy games, Kill is the guy on the sidelines wearing the headset, working the referees, ect.

From the people I know (living in UF territory) there is some level of cold feet just due to the Coaching Market this year, but there seems to be a strong belief that a loss to Miss St would likely be the end.
The other thing to consider is Napier's buyout is relatively cheap in comparison to many others that have been paid.
Edit: there is also a fringe element to the fanbase that thinks Kiffin is in their pocket the second the H.C. job opens.

Seeing Pavia strike the pose and I got a bit irritated that he might actually be in the Heisman discussion after getting what feels like an eighth year of eligibility

He'll have a couple mediocre years runway. Dabo won a couple national championships which helps his relationship with the fanbase. PSU was always bigger than Franklin, but Dabo is the Clemson program.

Dabo won a couple national championships which helps his relationship with the fanbase.
Dabo is also very much a 'Clemson guy' in a way that Franklin was never a 'Penn State guy'. He has a very similar world view to the typical Clemson fan, and I think that's given him the opportunity to be significantly active in the community, in turn endearing the community to him.
Obviously, winning matters most, but it certainly doesn't hope if your fans see you as one of them.

None of that would have been necessary if the penalty wasnt picked up. They would have been able to just run right up the middle until clock was at 3 seconds to kick FG.

Stanford doinks a kick but is bailed out by an FSU offsides call. 3-3 in the 2nd. If the Cardinal can pull this one out it would definitely go down as one of the funniest outcomes possible (and maybe be the nail in Norvell's coffin?)

UCLA wins again with the FG with 30 seconds left. Never hurts to see the Terps lost again to boot.
Bruins now 3-4. Unfortunately they face 4 ranked teams in final five games so unlikely the interim coach gets them to a bowl. Kind of Murderers Row. Indiana, Ohio State, Nebraska and USC left.

This feels like a somewhat awkwardly officiated game (no shocker being the ACC), but something just seems weird. Stanford also is now up 10 and Norvell really has to be staring down the barrel the way this thing is going. Boosters are going to be wanting his head on the end of that flaming spear real soon

Stanford being allowed to manhandle the FSU WR's. Hurting themselves too but hard to get much going when almost every pass has heavy contact before ball gets there.

Beat me by 18 seconds
Lol Miami
Ha!
I looked everywhere thinking I had seen one already.
Week 8
Weak 8
Really not digging the "bike shorts" trend in CFB this season. Players must be getting that Nair NIL with these short shorts
Now we find out if Miami has a backbone. Down 11 with most of 4th quarter
Woof that's soft for Roughing especially called after the interception
Commissioner make that call?
Yep...no flag even thrown on the play
Wow what a sequence...back to back turnovers to a TD for Miami
The media claims Miami is back every single year. And every year, they implode on themselves. This is the first year that I actually bought into the hype. But it turns out they might just be the usual "bak"
Yeah remind me not to bet on Miami again.
Beck really telegraphs his passes
And has eaten too many that he could have thrown away.
That is the most Mario Cristobal play this year.
I mean, let's not underestimate the skill to catch and secure the INT after the deflection tbf
It was a nice pick on a pass that never should've been made.
Comedy...amazing INT but damn...

Cards win the Coach Howard Schnellenberger Bronze Cowboy Boots Trophy
Wonder how PSU fans are feeling now...?
With Cignetti functionally off the table and Rhule losing decisively to a thoroughly average Minn team??
This is why I wouldn't have fired Franklin, especially this year. I'm not sure there's an upgrade willing to come there and you'll likely be competing with FSU, Florida, and Auburn.
Mrs MattBoard is a Penn State fan and she was initially glad he was gone, but as time passes, I think she is seeing that maybe the grass isn't always greener
Yep...you know what's worse than being a perennial Top-10 team that can never quite break through?
Not being a Top 10 team anymore and paying $50 mil to do that to yourself.
UNC fumbles on their first play from scrimmage.
Their Futurama coaching strategy appears to be going real stupid for them.
UNC fumbling you say!?! Sure would suck if they did it again, at an even worse time...
The three fumbles that cost UNC the game were not the fault of the coach. UNC should have won that game.
I mean the Patriots are having fumbling issues so maybe it is a coaching thing.
True, I guess I didn't mean I thought A caused B but I sure typed it out that way!
Until I see a boxing glove on a stick, it's a coaching problem!
I do enjoy a good upset of Miami... Unfortunately for the ACC that is not what we needed last night.
The sooner the ACC implodes the better imo.
we need all of college football to implode and start over
As a VT fan, I'm not sure it is.
Seconded, if we get into the P2 it'll be hard to win games. We're more likely to be Arkansas or Nebraska than Texas or Oregon.
If we're the ones imploding it, it's probably good.
#bringbackthebigeast

Carson Beck just simply 4INT it
In his defense, it was actually 5 except for a questionable RTP call
"Carson Beck just simply I5NT it" doesnt work as well tho

Jesse Palmer: Mansoor Delane is the best CB I've seen on film this year

GT isn't flashy but they just probably put the nail in a Duke team that played them very tough.
Here's a name that hasn't been floated in the potential Coaching Carousel: Brent Key.....
I know he's a GT guy, but with Wisc, FL, FSU, and UNC all possibly opening up, you'd have to imagine someone kicks the tires on that one...
I think Franklin ends up at Wisconsin. I don't see Key leaving. Same with Lea.

He built a team that dominates in the trenches. Kill/Beck came up with a great scheme and 'found' a great qb, but running a team is so much more than that.

Of course I'd take 2, but why not 3: lea + beck + kill
There have been rumors about Key to Florida. He had to address it in a presser recently.
But it would pretty
shockingif he left. Edit: Not shocking, but.... A sign of the times?I'd be shocked.
My bold prediction, that may be freezing cold by Monday morning is that Napier is still at Florida next season
That's basically what the Florida alum I work with has said. He can't stand Billy boy but feels pretty certain he'll still be in Gainesville next year.
From the people I know (living in UF territory) there is some level of cold feet just due to the Coaching Market this year, but there seems to be a strong belief that a loss to Miss St would likely be the end.

It's so cold over here
JMU muffs the opening kickoff. TD ODU
More points than seconds in the game so far.
How well has that nearly ubiquitous Modelo Recruiter commercial with the lady in the "Carolina National Champs 2025" aged??
I get a little chuckle every time I see that.
ODU-JMU:
1 special teams head scratcher, 1 amazing punt, 3 explosive plays.
14-14
Let's not miss the chance to turn the screw on Bill O'Brien and the Iggles. Lost by two TDs to UConn in football.
No defense at all in Harrisonburg today. 27-21 with time left in the first half
2 hours later and it's 63-27
Boise/UNLV is also wild 56-31
An afternoon for overs
Seeing Pavia strike the pose and I got a bit irritated that he might actually be in the Heisman discussion after getting what feels like an eighth year of eligibility
I think he played with and for John Heisman at this point
Amazingly, he wouldn't be the oldest to ever win a Heisman. That honor belongs I think to Chris Weinke who was something around 28 when he won.
Here's the even better part.
He was in JUCO for 2 years...so his "JUCO doesn't really count" argument could (and almost certainly will) be made again this offseason.
So he might have a Heisman campaign again next year too
Having any eligibility limits at all is clearly restraint of trade, so he could be there for another decade.
In more Harrisburg weirdness, ODU put their backup QB in the game to field a punt and he promptly muffed it.
4 top 25 upsets with 2 more almost complete. We could see up to 10 upsets today
Go Wazzu
Is there a point at which Dabo's seat officially gets hot??
If PSU felt they were stagnating..what do Clemson donors feel right now??
He'll have a couple mediocre years runway. Dabo won a couple national championships which helps his relationship with the fanbase. PSU was always bigger than Franklin, but Dabo is the Clemson program.
To many people at Clemson remember the Bowden years, PSU has really known only 2 coaches
Wow....DL interception just probably saved Billy Napier's job.
Edit: 350lb Nose Tackle dropping into zone...no way the QB could have expected it
UVA is down 10 at the half if anyone is looking for something fun to watch.
Holy crap those are some butt ugly hoo uniforms
I'm just happy Wisconsin scored zero points
LOL UT... about to make this a one-score game and they throw a pick-6 at the goal line
Washington State just let UVA tie the game and on the kickoff, another guy waved for a fair catch causing them to take the ball from their own 1
Brutal mistake
One more example of why it's better to be lucky than good.
WSU is imploding.
Yeah..they're toast at this point.
Another note: French I think has brought this up before but UVA's LB Robinson is a stout run defender...exactly the kind of player you would expect your former LB Coach turned H.C. to have found...rather than continuing to trot out guys who can't fill gaps and then signing a UNC retread who couldn't tackle.
God Pry sucked
We were final two for Robinson. I remember us going after him hard.
I knew to not be fooled after turning on the BYU/Arizona game last week when I just wanted to watch BYU lose. Not watching WSU give the game over saved me some disappointment.
If PSU loses to Iowa...wowser
Why did Iowa call timeout on a running clock?
BOOM....Pedo loses FOUR in a row
So it wasn't Franklin's fault?
Happy Valley will come up with 49 million reasons it is
Don't count your chickens just yet.
Their next two games are at Ohio State and home against Indiana
So there may be more chickens in a row
Neither QB broke 100 yards passing, top receiver is 21 yards. Big 10 football at its best.
Kentucky and Texas headed to OT after a nice drive from Kentucky to tie it
Go Big Blue! (only because I don't want another coaching vacancy this year)
Going for it on 4th down in OT (when you go first) is questionable at best
The whole last series was malpractice.
The first play was great. Then they shit the bed 🤷
Auburn and Mizzou duking it out to the end. 17 up and just under 5 left.
Notre Dame working on closing out USC
Notre Dame just got away with brutal PI and were almost awarded an INT
Should have also been hit with a facemask
Forcing USC best receiver off the field because defender ripped his facemask off his head with no flag
...USC tight end with zero field awareness running out two yards short of first down
Notre Dame gets the INT on a Drones like throw from USC QB with two receivers wide open and about 15 yards of open field in front of him to run.
Irish headed to top ten ranking
Auburn just got away with a blatant unsportsmanlike penalty that was flagged and picked up.
Cornerback after tackling WR lifts the WR back up and slams him to the ground.
Completely changed game. Would have been a 35 yard FG...now they have been moved completely out of FG range.
Wasn't as bad from the other angle. Foot got caught on the defenders leg when he popped up
Defender still had both arms around him and threw him to the ground. No matter where his foot was.
I have literally no clue how they wiped that out. If Auburn wins this game, you can solidly point to that right there as a big reason.
mansoor needs some good ice skates
Missouri and Auburn both doing their best to not win this game before OT
Missouri should have been in easy FG range and have been able to run clock down to 3 seconds but that picked up flag was ridiculous.
They also threw a backwards pass out of bounds
None of that would have been necessary if the penalty wasnt picked up. They would have been able to just run right up the middle until clock was at 3 seconds to kick FG.
Seriously though, does either team want this one?
Stanford doinks a kick but is bailed out by an FSU offsides call. 3-3 in the 2nd. If the Cardinal can pull this one out it would definitely go down as one of the funniest outcomes possible (and maybe be the nail in Norvell's coffin?)
Honestly we are probably better off with FSU winning out so they keep Norvell another year
Most likely, but FSU getting stomped out by a bad team is always hilarious. It's 10-3 now
Ugh trading missed FGs in OT...
Man the video clip they just showed on thr FSU/Stanford broadcast of the "tailgating action" at Stanford earlier today. Lmao. It was like three dudes standing under a tent eating some steak in a mostly empty parking lot. 😂
Two minute walk, no line, able to move down about 50 rows because it's empty
That brisket got me hungry as hell though. I haven't eaten dinner yet and I think the closest thing I have to meat in the house is canned soup.
To be fair you're right, it did look good. At least there was plenty to go around for all three of them there.
Injured Auburn defender looks like he is wearing bike shorts. Bad look on a 300 lb Defensive Lineman
Auburn defender was definitely offsides on the 2pt conversion try
Comical end there with the O lineman catching the 4th down pass
Does Hugh Freeze get fired tonight?
What a way to end that game in Auburn. Comedy
Stanford about to go up two scores but may have just lost their QB. He went down hard.
13-3 now. Unreal how bad FSU is
Stanford is doing their best to keep FSU in this one. I don't know what happened after the first 3 games for FSU, but it has really fallen apart for them.
Stanford is terrible so it's more just an indictment of FSU. Losses to other P4 teams are by 24, 28, and 24 but they did beat BC.
Castellanos outside of the Bama game has looked every bit the terrible QB he was at BC
That last play was perfect example. Had two receivers wide open early but he double pumped instead of throwing it.
Pry freelancing for them?
UCLA wins again with the FG with 30 seconds left. Never hurts to see the Terps lost again to boot.
Bruins now 3-4. Unfortunately they face 4 ranked teams in final five games so unlikely the interim coach gets them to a bowl. Kind of Murderers Row. Indiana, Ohio State, Nebraska and USC left.

Stanford being allowed to manhandle the FSU WR's. Hurting themselves too but hard to get much going when almost every pass has heavy contact before ball gets there.
I think this is what I'm noticing for my previous comment about officiating. It definitely seems like Stanford is allowed A LOT of leeway on grabbing, hand fighting, and not even turning their head to find the ball with FSU's receivers
Yeah the one announcer that is former NFL defensive guy, you can hear him almost giggling when he tries to compliment the coverage on some of the throws.
LMAO they earned that offsides that gives the first though
Christ what a bonehead move by their defensive lineman to convert 4th down by penalty
11 minute TOP Difference
WOOF WOOF
FSU Special Teams made Stanford think the kick was on the other side of the field. What a bad mistake by the Stanford gunners
Castellanos just holds the ball longer than Drones
Stanford doing too much trying to throw. Clock has been on their side and they're managing it pretty poorly.
Looked like a really shitty spot but knowing ACC, they won't have a good enough angle to overturn. Should be FSU 1st and Goal.
If I didn't know better I'd think that the ACC is rigging this for Stanford, but everyone knows they're not competent enough to do that. Also why would they do it for Stanford over FSU...unless it's to punish FSU for all of their big stink/lawsuit and now just not being that good again.
FSU hasn't won an ACC game in 392 days, what's 7 more?
Castellanos has as much touch as an Easter Island statue. Good lord, just missed that throw that would've tied the game on 2nd down
Watch them overturn this catch with no evidence either?
Shocked with the way things have been going that it was upheld
That one I actually thought should be overturned based on where the hands and ball landed, though admittedly I didn't watch too closely, so I was super shocked that it was upheld.
Castellanos definitely just got concussed. OUCH. Probably a hold and a late hit
The ref might've also had a stroke trying to get the call out
Interested to see how they enforce this. Late hit was after the play.
10 back, 15 forward and a 1st I'm pretty sure
Stanford wins though with Castellanos on the bench. Freshman has barely looked down field in his two chances.
Yeah, Castellanos showed what he could do on that play if he didn't let go of the ball. That is not gonna help FSU's chances on this one
That was awful after Castellanos went out
What a gong show ending to this one too lol
How did Stanford let this happen?
That was absolutely pass interference
I think he was in but ACC
ACC makes a mockery of itself again.
Not enough to overturn that one. Looked like the angle straight down the goal line was completely blocked. I think he was in as well, but once they said short on the field, FSU was doomed
This is why every field should have a camera above the goal line. Unbelievable how many times they can't make a call because so many bodies are right there.
I guarantee if FSU was a 0 to 2 loss team it gets overturned by the way. Miami last year being a great example.
Two years ago, North Carolina, Clemson, and Florida State were the three ACC teams to vote against newcomers Cal, Stanford, and SMU joining the conference. This weekend, Cal defeated North Carolina, SMU defeated Clemson, and Stanford defeated Florida State.

That being said, two of the three still really don't belong in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
A Running Back from Curry College ran for 522 yards last night on 20 carries and scored 7 touchdowns.
The touchdowns included runs of 85, 84, 76, 64, 58, 30 and 2 yards.
Surpasses the 427 yards by Samaje Perrine in 2014.
he had 3 runs with more yards than the Iowa QB
Had about half the Hokies TOTAL rushing yards from this season in one game.
522 vs 1,117 (7 games)
