Week 10 - Other Games

Lots of midweek Fun Belt and Conference USA games to get us started. Next week we get back to midweek MACtion.

JMU took Texas State to the woodshed on Tuesday 52-20. Watched a bit of Jacksonville State last night.

Tonight brings Marshall at Coastal Carolina and Tulane at UT San Antonio. I will probably watch Tulane to see Sumrall in action.

Friday brings the Cellar to ACC Friday Night with Beli-suck going to the whatever the Carrier Dome is called now (Hokies House of Horrors on Halloween). You also have the option of catching Memphis to see what a Ryan Silverfield team looks like.

Saturday our clear focus will be on visiting #16 Loserville but other options are Penn State losing its 5th in a row to Ohio State, #9 Vandy at #20 Texas (Arch Manning Questionable after Concussion), a Duke Clemson matchup where one has a winning record ...and it isn't Klempson.

Other fun ones
Navy 7-0 at North Texas 7-1
#15 UVA at Cal to get some comparison
#18 Oklahoma at #14 Tennessee
#17 Cincinnati at #24 Utah for the night owls

What else are you watching?

Michael Vick coaching against DeSean Jackson tonight is kind of surreal. Things going way better for Jackson at 5-3 than Vicks 1-7.

After this season Vick may need to legally change his name to Ron Mexico if he ever wants to get another HC job

We got a full quad box on a Thursday night. What a time to be alive.

When you are watching the quad and officials throw flags on three of the four games at exactly the same time.

Tulane is really struggling tonight. Just went down two scores to UTSA.

Nothing going right for Tulane. Dropped an easy touchdown on 3rd down and then FG kicker who was 14 for 14 misses a 22 yarder by fifteen yards to the side.

Terrible end to the half

Terrible targeting call in Tulane vs UTSA. UTSA QB essentially dove helmet first into defender. QB helmet pops off, targeting on a defender falling backwards as he is speared by QB

Fortunately overturned by review

Is it just coincidence or is it the Mouse's schedule manipulation that is giving us the lamest pre-Saturday football schedule this sport has ever seen? I can't recall a single game so far this season that would remotely qualify as must-see.

I was really surprised at how few key SEC games there were looking at schedule. Not sure if that's Disney or the SECs fault.

There are a couple games that preseason looked like they would be good matchups.

UGA at FLA and SCar at Ole Miss but FLA and SCar both fell on their face.yet both got prime TV spots. ABC at 330pm and ESPN at 7pm.

The other leagues don't offer much this weekend. Even the Cincy AT Utah game just took a big hit as Cincy leading rusher will miss the game.

FLA and SCar both fell on their face.yet both got prime TV spots.

That's why when I saw something about SEC and B1G having the best ratings like last week, my thought was "No shit." You put them in the best time slots on the best/easiest to access channels and of course they're going to do better than Syracuse/GT and whatever other ACC or Big 12 games are on. Good ol' self fulfilling prophecy, just the same way that the SEC got to be called the best football in the country when anyone beyond the top 4 struggled to have a pulse.

All I know is that the old Big East frickin' rocked the hell out of the Thursday night deals, namely featuring us. Even now, throw the records out, a VT/Miami kind of matchup (hell, VT/BC, Pitt/WV) that shit sells. And we're not getting anything remotely close that these days.

While true, you know how to beat this?

Win your games. Eventually you'll get some good time slots and ratings.

Not really sure this is true. SEC has six games this weekend. Four of them are on ABC/ESPN (it's essentially an SEC infomercial on ABC from 1100am-1030pm) Two of the four games have at least one team with a losing record.

The only game we got on ESPN that is purely ACC is Miami at SMU. Magically Boston College got an ESPN timeslot at 1-7 .... playing Notre Dame.

At this point the Mouse doesn't care if it's a bad SEC matchup. If all the had playing on a Saturday were the bottom 8 SEC teams, they would still get 4 prime spots if foitball is on.

They have to keep supporting the narrative that the SEC is the best conference with the best numbers. Even if they have to make sure they are literally the only games on.

Don't get me wrong. The SEC definitely has the advantage.

As do ACC teams with good records.

You gotta make the most of what you've got. Isn't the Boston College game the Notre Dame contractual game with the ACC? So for all intents and purposes, that's an ACC game, and is interesting because of Notre Dame's record and following.

Tulane may lose by 50 tonight at this rate

Vicks Special Teams are on par with Skippy. Just cost them about 45 yards on a kickoff return with a hold.

Since ESPN/Disney/Hulu continues to extort their customers and other services, I won't be watching this weekend. Absolutely wild they can get away with this. My price for Hulu nearly tripled in less than 10 years. Finally switch to YouTubeTV and it looks like they're trying to get YT to pay some ridiculous rate as well.

(add if applicable) /s

the Hokies are available OTA this weekend if you have access to an antenna (assuming you don't have issues getting the CW)

I do art stuff.

I don't readily have access to one and have no plans to go out and buy one. I will be looking at VPN/pirating services in depth this weekend. Remember when streaming services and cutting the cord was marketed as the cheaper more flexible alternative?

(add if applicable) /s

YTTV cant be innocent in all this with how many disputes they've had

This is a slap fight between two multi-billion dollar companies over who gets a bigger share of the money they pick from our pockets. Whoever wins, the consumer loses.

I do art stuff.

Its literally all of the million/billion $ providers and services vs each other squeezing every cent out of each other and then turning to the consumer to squeeze more out of them. I don't care who's at fault its been a pattern forever that's gotten substantially worse since streaming services started. They provide no additional value and raise rates once a year - the consumers always lose.

(add if applicable) /s

If anyone is interested, here is a link to the discussion section of the Disney-YouTube fight. Thankfully, I'm not invested in sports that much, so refuse to pay for any of these. If I can't pick up a VT game on cable we have, I'm just not watching that week. Would rather listen to the VT radio broadcast online than pay these people even more.

...and now apparently I can't watch the rest of the game after getting home from my parents because of the pissing contest between YTTV and Disney and then that led to the realization that ESPN+ no longer gives you access to all the ESPN content because two months ago they dropped ESPN Unlimited which of course has a monthly price tag double of what we were paying for the Disney+,Hulu, ESPN+ Bundle.

Not sure what to think of those.

They're not particularly attractive. Does the school get a lot of money for that?

No idea. Most comments I saw were worried about the opposite...that the school was paying to use them.

I honestly think Duke and VT will beat them. They are so incredibly lucky the last several weeks.

Their luck is likely to run out at some point. Seems like it's happening to GT right now, despite a good effort from King.

GT just let the Wolfpack put up 48 points. 24 in each half. Prior to tonight the most they had allowed was 29 with five wins allowing 20 or less.

For NC State, the only game they scored more in was against Campbell. Against P4 the 35 to beat UVA was the most.
