I know it is early..like really early and all but... I am planning a trip from FL with my significant other for the Thursday Night game and wanted some opinions on: where to fly in to, where to stay, eat and of course best/easiest(like that will happen) way to get tickets.. Any information would be great!!!
Would love to get to meet some other TKP'ers and have a great Thursday night/weekend in Blacksburg.
Go Hokies

I always fly in and out of Roanoke. Tickets might be cheaper to fly in and out of Charlotte, but then you are facing a 2 1/2 hour drive before/after a long flight.
You could also fly into Raleigh, likely a bit cheaper, and have a drive only 30 mins or so longer
Nice!!! already 1/4th of the price than Roanoke and only a 3 hr drive. That's nothing for a young chap like me!
Try DCA or IAD to fly into, if you are willing to drive up from NC, might as well consider driving down 81 from NoVa.
I will be tailgating my heart out in what may be my last Thursday night game as a student and you will be more than welcome to join us....that goes for all of you just please bring a lil something (buns drinks whatever) from what I've heard talking to people raleigh is the cheapest if that's what you're looking for
Definitely Raleigh is cheapest and the company I work for has status with Delta nonstop flight! Also rental car discounts with National so I should be good to go. Thinking of flying in the 22nd a day before walking around the school, then tailgating all day thursday, and hungover flight back home Friday!
Thanks Guy! Just need (2) tickets and a hotel..!
JC, you live anywhere near Orlando/Sanford/Tampa/Daytona/Melbourne? Allegiant Airlines flights from Orlando Sanford International into Roanoke are really cheap if you buy them at least 2 weeks ahead of time. They only fly certain days each week, but great prices!! We've used them a number of times.
Yes Yes, I do. Its Winter Park for me. !
I'm not sure when flight to Roanoke is these days, but it may be Thursday AM and return on Sunday. Check their site. That airport is great to get in and out of. Allegiant charges for bags, but its still very cheap. I've never had any real issues flying with them. Very convenient. I live just south of Melbourne on the Indian River.
yes that is correct in Thursday AM out Sunday. Definitely an option especially since its into Roanoke wouldn't have to drive.. Ohhh the possibilities!
Didn't even think about Allegiant. Direct flights from Orlando-sanford to Roanoke.
If not offered early to the general public through Hokiesports.com use Stubhub for tickets or, if you want to risk late availability, again try HokieSports.com. They sometimes/usually have tickets turned in from opposing teams that didn't sell. They don't last long. Check the web site regularly a few weeks out from every game. Hokiesports.com sells them at face value. The alumni association also has limited availability tickets for special events like reunions.
How many do you need? If all else fails, I buy four season tickets a year and generally sell 2 unless family/friends don't want the extra 2 beyond what the wife and I need.
I would need 2 just myself and the lady
If you can't find any tickets elsewhere message me closer to the day.
sounds good to me.. don't feel the need to hold them either. I know its going to be a crazy game. Family first for sure.
Same here, us students can usually scrounge something together too pretty quick, although recently students have begun scalping each other over the Facebook sites (seriously someone tried to sell a ticket for 100$+ that I got for free) but typically if you bug people enough you'll find one
See... that right there, THAT is why the lottery sucks so much. Students who have absolutely no intention of going use it to collect tickets and try to turn around and sell them to those that actually want to go to the events, and it makes it appear as if the students aren't filling up the place. Its MUCH worse in basketball than in football.
We really need to go back to camping out for tickets. Its a fun process and it encourages those that truly do want to go have the ability to do so.
I'm all for curtailing scalping lottery tickets, but making those who want them camp isn't really the answer. If that was the case I wouldn't have gotten any tickets to any home games because I just didn't have the time to camp out between classes, homework, clubs, and other obligations. Maybe have a certain number of tickets be allocated to the hardcore camping fans and the rest in the lottery. That way if you really, really want to go to a certain game you have a chance to hold out but you're not punished if you don't have time to camp on a Tuesday.
I agree. I don't know if I should make this public information or not, but last year I had my sister, brother, and a friend coming in for the Maryland game. Didn't want to buy tickets for them, found out during that lottery that kids in the Corp can still enter the lottery and win tickets.
Hell yes we can, and do. And then we can ensure those tickets go to people that will appreciate them, rather than them inevitably being wasted on some sorostitute that just wants to take selfies the whole damn time. Same goes for the MVs.
Depending where you are coming from in FL ... check out AllegiantAir.com . Incredibly cheap <$100 tickets, though flight timing and selection is not the greatest. They have tons of routes in and out of Greenville, SC Asheville, NC, Greensboro,NC and Roanoke. Its like southwest though and fares will only show on their site. The main hubs are Orlando, Ft Lauderdale, Ft Myers and Tampa.
Any thoughts on flying into Lynchburg? Delta goes there and its only 1-2 hours away? Also looking to stay around christiansburg/ radford area. I know blacksburg hotels will be packed but those are close!
