Leal is going to need all the help he can get. Stanford, Knowles, Cline, Malleck, Hodges, Byrn. Got some intriguing offensive option to catch passes. Hoping they got something special planned for anOSU.

I would actually be ok if we went true freshman at QB this year. And thats nothing against Leal, but it would not be bad at all to have Ford or Durkin with a year under their belts starting for VT when the 2015 season rolls around. With the weapons we have, getting that extra year of experience at QB could be the difference between 'pretty good' and 'great' in 2015 and beyond.

Exactly. Coaches are paid to win now. While I would hate to have to break in another QB again next season, if Leal is far and above the best QB to win games in 14 he has to be the guy. That said, if any of the other QB's are equal or near the level of Leal in August, IMO you have to go with the youth with the expectation that they will have the higher ceiling and actually surpass Leal's ability with reps during the season.

I'd be fine with it too, but rolling the dice at the QB position has never been Frank's style. Remember when VT lost two early games because he was trying to "redshirt" Tyrod?
Maybe Scott has been given free range to make the gutsy calls like starting a freshman or a transfer who comes in late, but that is the fun of the current situation, no one knows.

I distinctly remember a ball bouncing off of Boykin's facemask in that ECU game. That was my first VT game and I knew nothing about the program going in so my memory isn't reliable, but I seem to remember sympathizing with Glennon that game.
I mean, after I got over how miserably hot it was.

That was one of two times in my 4 years that we were allowed to remove our jackets in the MVs. And yeah we had a couple members still go down from dehydration and heat related complications, whatever they may have been.

I think I drank 3 of those $6 gatorades baking a couple rows from the top. It didn't matter if you were a gold, silver, or bronze hokie. We all got crap seats.

We never should have been in a position that game where a blocked kick would lose it for us.
Its like when someone tries to blame the defense for giving up a late score in a close game where the offense could barely get past midfield. A little help from the offensive side at any other point during the game, and that late scoring play doesn't matter.

Careful, I think you're mixing seasons. 2007 opened with ECU (ugly win, 17-7) and then a loss to LSU. In 2008, we opened with that horrible loss to ECU.

I still wonder at Frank's decision on that one. Glennon was 14-23 with 2 picks in a game where the ball bounced off WR's (sound familiar to Bama?) He was sacked twice but still had positive rushing yards for the game.
ECU was 19-23 passing and outgained us on the ground and in the air. Again Glennon wasn't playing defense either.

He also returned later that you to be the ACC Championship MVP IIRC. Once those receivers clicked (they were all Freshmen/r-Freshmen that year) I think it was easier for everyone.

The sky is the limit for Carlis Parker and his story seems reminiscent of recent WRs that were converted from other positions such as QB and RB. Hoping that Moorehead does a great job of teaching the nuances of WR to Carlis Parker and it seems as Parker is putting in the extra work. It's the situation that you definitely have to respect what Bryn does and he's a good player but you try to get a kid with more talent to try to force his way on the field over Bryn.
I'm excited that VT is starting to recruit more WRs that have played the position in HS, a guy like Cam Phillips seems really refined in his route running already coming from HS. The WR production was lacking last year and the more competition the better, there's a reason why so many WRs were recruited.

Am I the only one who thinks its crazy that both Bucky and Carlis are catching passes and not throwing them? Bucky was the heir apparent and Carlis was an intriguing prospect that everyone thought could push Bucky at QB. The only QB recruit that is still behind center is a lightly recruited prospect out of little ole Christiansburg VA. Interesting how things develop. By the way, I am ALL for how everything has played out and hoping that Parker and Hodges can rise to their potential!

I hope Loeffler is able to utilize him like he did against UCLA, and he can really fly across the field.
We could be sneaky deep at WR this fall.
Thanks Andy!

Don't like that mentality...in other words why do you play? You don't play to get experience, you...

don't sleep on Brewer eitheroops..didn't see the post below when I posted this...already been stated
Don't count out Brewer....he has two years of eligibility left.
He could be the starter for the next two years.
sorry..I replied before seeing your post...oops

No offense to TT, but I really don't think he would have been able to win those games for us at that stage in his development.
lsu? no.
ecu? I think he could've figured something out.

I think my Glennon sympathy for that particular game went away when his first attempt was picked off. . .just like the year before that.
And yes, it was hot, like so hot. We were in the upper deck just baking in those plastic seats.
I was probably sitting next to you. That upper deck was brutal!
Wife probably had heat stroke.

That game was not Glennon's fault entirely. I seem to remember a blocked kick being the reason we lost the game. Glennon didn't play on special teams.

Yeah that's the one. But it still spurred us to burn Tyrod's redshirt again.

Brynn Renner? I don't respect him...sorry, I don't like UNC.
Willie Byrn? Now i have much respect for him.
Saw this in that article:
Respect for Byrn!! The guy is a defense's nightmare.

elite athlete coming into his own? check.
hard worker who's willing to learn? check
from my hometown? check.
oh yeah, i'm gonna be rooting hard for 16 the next three years.
Statesboro Blues?
Sorry, I guess its StatesVILLE. My bad.
it's a common mistake ;)
This article really makes me wonder why the hell wasn't this guy redshirted?
Extreme lack of talent on the offensive side of the ball. I'm sure they were hoping he would learn quickly, it just never panned out that way.
