Haven't needed it in years, but it seemed a good day to haul it out of reclusion for a spark. It has been to many games at Lane North through the decades, but it'll have to sit here and send its serious juice by proxy.
I say run the ball 50+ times. Just keep trying to shove it down their throats until they break. Don't attempt more than 10 passes.

While I've made no secret of my hatred of UVA, I'd be a real jerk not to give a tip of my Hokie hat to a handful of really good folks in Charlottesville I met when I lived nearby. They were incredibly generous and my association with them and their friends was one of the greater pleasures of my life. Smart as whips, amazingly funny and yeah, lawyers. I was the proverbial fart in church at their games, but we had a deal for several years, they hosted my there and I got them tickets here. One worked at a prestigious firm there in 'hooville and the tickets were always on the 50 yard line and the best I've ever had for a football game, mine for them could be anywhere, including the end zone one year, but no complaints from them. They put up with my loudness, my crudeness and profanity as I showed my drunken Hokie ass more than once there in their hallowed home, but it wasn't until their coach told 'em to stop letting us in the house that they finally terminated the agreement, but by then, it wasn't a rivalry any more.
No bow ties, no zima, down to earth folks I totally respect. And of course, totally want to whip their asses into a two box of kleenex fit. And they know it.

I grew up in Charlottesville. Despite that, I had no affiliation to Uva. My family were transplants from England. My dad doesn't give two shits about football (he played rugby growing up) so I never cared about Uva. I probably went to a grand total of 3 games growing up. I chose VT for engineering. I didn't even apply to Uva (tho, to be completely honest, I'm not sure I'd have gotten in... Then again, I didn't think I'd get into Tech either 🤷)
Being that I grew up there, though, I knew a lot of people from my high school who went there. It's kind of amazing to me the personalities that are attracted to that institution. Granted, there are a select few down to earth folks who end up there (and I have one good friend who works for uva) but a majority of the people I know who went to Uva are just insufferable picks. Fake wannabes who care more about appearances than anything else.
I hate uva. I love beating them. I hope we run the damn ball down their throats all night long. Remind them that they have been, are, and will always be little brother.

The best part about this kind of game is that it's a strong message that Franklin can take to the administration and boosters to why you have to take him seriously going forward.
They got their guy in Pry and it led to this pile of shit. They don't know their ass from a hole in a ground about football and they need to listen to the proven winner in the room going forward
One slight problem. Pry was hired under the same theory as Franklin: try to do Penn State at Virginia Tech. And lack of investment is not the problem with this team, it's coaching.
Pry was hired because he was the only person in Balleins rolodex that answered the phone. He absolutely was no the james franklin experience. He hadn't been a head coach at any level before much less P5/P4. Franklin has been a Head whistle for 15 years.
I heard Ballein persuaded Whit to hire Pry instead of Elko. Can't verify it but that's the rumor going around

Except Pry didn't have the credibility or experience that Franklin has. Pry couldn't (or wouldn't) take known commodities from his former employer and ended up hiring inexperience coordinators. He also kept some of the previous coaches around, too. I don't think that Franklin is going to do that.
And you say it's coaching not $'s, but is this UVA QB better than Drones, because he was bought. Most of UVAs team was bought. We really didn't buy much this year.
How is Franklin better coaching wise than Pry? He can hire a slightly better staff? Talent wasn't the issue with Pry, especially last year. We had a 10 win roster and the staff got 6 out of them. This year Franklin had a national title roster and staff and would've got 8 tops with some terrible losses if he coached the whole year.
Personally I want a guy who will maximize the talent he gets. Just saying
First things first; we need a guy like Franklin to bring in the talent. That's the first step. Fuente couldn't recruit or manage a roster, Pry recruited better but couldn't develop the players he had. From all accounts, Franklin can bring in elite talent and surround himself with coaches that can develop players and scheme to his personnel's strengths.
I think you just answered your own question. Pry couldn't get 8 wins out of a 10 win roster (as you called it). Franklin had 3 bad games this year ,but multiple seasons of 10 wins or more, made in the CFB playoff semifinals (nearly the NC game) last year and can recruit the shit out this region.
I don't know who else you think would be better, but everyone on PSUs list to replace Franklin got extended and wasn't available. And anybody at the G5 level is a bigger gamble.
Who would maximize the talent more than Franklin? Even including people that are unrealistic to hire. Frank Beamer isn't going to be coaching on the sideline. Franklin has his warts too. But right now we haven't played in an actual big game since 2016. That's 9 entire years of consistent mediocrity.
Is it better to maximize the talent of a low 3 star or get the average output of a mid or high 4 star? If you apply this question across the entire roster, the 4 star team is going to win 9 out of 10 times. Maximizing anything is incredibly hard. Doing it week in and week out is damn near impossible.

At least on Wiggins the coaching staff at the beginning of season indicated his was a longer term issue. They never actually disclosed what it was. Adams missed all of Spring Ball as well and in July said he was still a few months from being ready.

I just realized something. Brent Pry, who I believe is a good man but an unmitigated disaster of a head coach and arguably the worst head coach we have had, will forever remain undefeated vs UVA. I'm really looking forward to the Franklin era.

Monty's "gameplan" was trash but Pry left him with an untalented, undisciplined disaster of a team.

I work with one of those. I've lost count of how many times I've almost punched him. One of the mouthiest "men" I've ever met. Suddenly I'm very glad I broke my foot at work recently and won't be there to hear him crow.
Not just the worst VT team I've had the displeasure of watching since I started at VT in 1997, but the dumbest. May we never speak of them again.

I disagree. Monty was a good interim HC (he held the team together and they played hard). He got 3 wins out of a 0 (1-maybe) roster after Pry was fired (remember we had 19 opt-outs/injuries). He is also a "good" OC. When he has the players to run his system. The problem was Pry hired him too late (thanks Bowen for the F on the way out) to get roster for where he needed.
I tend to agree with this take on Monty. While I never wanted Monty to be seriously considered for the head coaching job, I do appreciate his efforts in holding the team together through a very difficult situation. I know if I ever run into Monty around Blacksburg his drinks are covered.
