It's crazy to even have recruiting be exciting again... been a while
I missed all the news today as it happened because I was driving across the prairie listening to this man plus the Lonely Island
That podcast is so goddamn delightful. I didn't see probably 90% of those digital shorts live but I make sure to watch everything they have in the show notes before listening and it's just so fun to listen to 4 great friends talk and reminisce.
And I also lowkey love when Akiva gets really technical because that stuff fascinates me
Righteous kill
Ah, damn, my first chance for a Quaid Army in the wild and I blew it.
Righteous kill, though!
It's ok, Quaid. Next time.
Can't remember the last time we genuinely needed a recruiting thread... and one that we were either anxious about or excited about.
I can tell you this site is much more enjoyable when we have good recruiting battles to follow and end up on the winning end of some of them and the last time that was the case, I was a much much younger man.
I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now....
Huhn making announcement now
We got down to business
To recruit
Troy Huhn
BE A MAN!
It came down to my relationship with Coach Franklin!
Boom!
Is this considered an upgrade over the commit we lost earlier today? Seems that 247 was much higher on Bergeron.
He was higher in the composite, which is what we should be using across all services.
Also- because we like the Hokies, I want whatever service that has our players graded higher...
247 had recently bumped Bergeron to a 90 (low-4star) and #20 QB. They have Huhn at 89 (high-3star) and #21 QB. Basically a wash.
Huhn is rated better in the composite (4-star vs 3-star)
Don't touch that dial hokies fans. Should be getting some more good news soon
(psst...I need someone to make a gif from this, wherever it's from, so I can save it to imgur, I'm putting together a KMK gif repository there)
(You can use hyperlink: https://gifdb.com/images/high/michael-keegan-in-prison-hell-yeah-brother...)
I get to drink!

Wait, these are all .webp files. Converted it to .gif.
Now, how do I make these public? I only have two public gifs, was uploading them all as hidden before, but that option is no longer there. Is there a way to convert them to public without re-uploading?
They don't have to be public on imgur to link to them. That's only if you want people to be able to browse/search for the posting
Go into the post in question. Click the 3 Dots in upper right hand corner. There should be a "Make Public" option.

Let's bring in the rest!
You can strike Lamah now.
Lamah lamah, maroon pajamas!
Updated.
Isn't he already committed to VT?
I think he decommitted at the time of Pry's firing. Franklin has been working to pull him back into the boat
He's back!
If all of these sign on ESD plus a couple others, the next PSU coach is going to have a hell of a job on the recruiting trail. It warms my heart!
The fact that ESD is in 25.5 hours and they still don't have their coach named is insane.
Lamah in the boat!
Bring all the LBs!!!
From a free article over on 247
From the 247Sports scouting staff:
"Lamah is extremely physical between the tackles with thump at the point of attack and impressive downhill pursuit to the ball. He can really fill holes in the run game and has the size and length to cover ground. Lamah is a tempo starter and flies around to set the tone on defense.
"He won't have a problem fitting into the Big 10 as a line of scrimmage league. He takes on blocks and sheds them with leverage to get to his gap. Lamah makes some plays rushing the passer and can get sideline to sideline but his strength is on early downs.
"He can make an impact early in his career with college ready size, especially on special teams where his effort and attitude combined with his physicality can shine."
or conversely

Current PSU recruiting ranking on 247 - #122
Hokies - #67
Those numbers are directly related to the number of recruits, while certainly relevant to the type of recruit. The average composite has us behind PSU by a pretty good margin...
PSU has an average composite (only 6 players) of 90.78
VT has an average composite (14 players) of 87.71.
Just for context.
Several of those VT commits are from the previous regime, and we don't know if they are truly takes at this point. If you take just commits from post-JMFF signing, then what's our average composite looking like?
Great question!
I'll see if I can run those numbers this evening.
I'm just going by who is in the boat at this point. That will certainly shift quite a bit over the next couple of weeks. The trend is a really good one though!
You know what would make today even better. A third
Is that based on sauces, hope, or the fact that Wiltfong is listing 3 more flips on his CBs? (I don't pay for On3, so not sure who they were)
On the information I have
Look at Saucy Jack over here!
According to Kolby's Korner, retaining Cleveland was a major emphasis from the new staff
He was on campus this weekend on an official. Is from Hopewell. Didn't commit to us yet, but definitely positive timing based on the recent official visit
Oh that would be a nice get if true.
Not one not two not three ....
I've lost count today
Any chance for Matt Sieg? He's PSU's highest ranked recruit, and it looks like he visited the Burg recently and opened his commitment.
Wednesday on cbs sports
I think we're getting a few CBs for him right now. We will know Wednesday.
Didn't realize Michigan poached VA so well...
247sports 2026-football/Recruit Rankings State=VA
I was just looking at the same thing - 3 of the top 10 in state, ouch! Would be nice if Darius Gray decided to take a look since USC east has had a bit of a disappointing season. Would hate it for Shane, but...
Quite a few guys in the top 20 who are committed to programs that had disappointing seasons...
Gobble gobble! "The best in VA stay in VA" Let's GO!
Yeah, Michigan, Tennessee, and Penn State have poached pretty consistently for a while (well PSU probably about to end..) but the ones that really hurt are Syracuse and Rutgers--Purdue too...where the hell does that come from?
Those are the types of Programs that shouldn't be pulling out top-20 VA guys. My bet is we see much less of either now that Franklin and Co. are running a real Recruiting operation.
It's nothing to worry about. If you haven't heard, there's no good talent in VA. /s
I mean, it has dropped off significantly from what it used to be. Things change I suppose.
Yet there are three five-stars in the state this year. Go figure.
What a day for me to be driving cross country and not able to check TKP. Did I miss anything?
Not a thing that's exciting at all.
Edit: Huhn and Lamah on new commits, Wilder and Cleveland as recommit or affirmation

No advanced stats this time. It's been a busy week.
Wiltfong on On3 put in CBs for the good guys to land Sieg and Wiggins.
Really like Wiggins. Hope we get him. Also really like Seig. But really really like Wiggins.
Davion Brown reportedly down to Maryland and Virginia Tech.
AKA "FatRat". Would go very nicely with all name team of Messiah and Purgatory that Franklin's building out.
I'm sick or I would do the research - who are the highest graded players that have come to Tech over the last 5 years?
From 247 rankings:
2019 Doug Nester (94 rating), Bryan Hudson (93 rating), JR Walker (92 rating) and Jaden Payoute (95 rating).
2020-2025 includes Keylen Adams (89), Gunner Givens(92), Gabe Williams (92), Shamarius Peterkin (90), Benji Gosnell (90), DJ Harvey (90)
Thanks for the research, appreciate it! Looks like it's been awhile since we got any recruits over 94. And neither Nester or Hudson lasted more than a year.
Both were here for 2 years: 2019 and 2020
Ah, I misunderstood the timelines, it said they transferred in 2020. Regardless, 2020 was a throwaway year. My main point is they didn't stick around.
Micah Matthews should have been on the list. 247 unfairly dropped him. Based on a single game in his high school senior season. Where he was coming back from a month injury. Especially when next game he had 250+ all purpose yards and 4 total touchdowns against even tougher competition.
I know gabe williams had that horrible injury and then awful death of his dad, but was surprised we didnt see anything from him this year
Also, both of them are from PA. What a turn of events if we start poaching PSU desired recruits from PA and not the other way around...
Benjamin Eziuka with the Big Man Pick Six in his State Title Game
Wiltfong predicts he will commit to Hokies
Polydor down to Hokies, Penn State and Colorado currently.
I hear he has good potions.
This has been unreal. We'll never see anything like it again in our lives I'd bet. Mainly because the steady stream of recruits starts with this initial rush!
Depends on the results Franklin sees, continued commitment to NIL, and Franklin and staff's abilities as salespeople/recruiters.
Is this a celebration of todays success or bat signal for impending commitment this evening?
Could be a combo. Witherington just flipped to us
And that's because we have a kicker committed (the number 1 kicker in the country)
I understand how 247 does their star system, but I still think it's stupid that the #1 kicker in the country is a low 3-star prospect and getting their commitment weighs your team average down.
I think if the kicker is number one in the country. They should be a 85 at least
Considering the all time leading scorer for the NFL is Adam Vinatieri, you'd think a really good kicker would be worth more (to your point).
Edit: apparently the top 25 all time scorers were all kickers.
They should take out outlier positions in their prospect average. Or perhaps better yet, compute a a more informative ranking that takes into account position and the prospect's ranking within the position.
Thank you, Joe!!
It's a little nauseating seeing the posts about where we rank with no regard to what you just posted.
Wanna make your head spin
By the end of this week we could or should have a Top 25 class. After being 122 when Franklin was hired
Does anybody know the last time we cracked the top 25 in recruiting class?
2018
Don't look now. But look who is 49th in the country in the team rankings π
Post a link, tweet, or source plz
https://247sports.com/college/virginia-tech/season/2026-football/commits/
Now has us 50th
Updated to reflect 2026.
9 Commits in 7 days.
247's #49 overall class, 13th in the ACC
On3's #46 overall class, 10th in the ACC
This. Is. Nuts!...
But I Like It!!!!!
Remember to leave Zyn packs and energy drinks out for the coaches on Crootsmas Eve.
Who's ready for the second day of Cruitsgivingπ€
Third? Thanksgiving Day, yesterday, and today?
True. And another day tomorrow
I love the number 3
Every time I refresh twitter I can't tell if it's another recruit signal or an old there are just so many!
Bat signal up a third time today
Up to number 35 on 247
32 now. 31 in the composite
Now #30 on On3. #7 in the ACC.
Ok, who's keeping the Flipping Spreadsheet? I can't keep track.
It's not so much a spreadsheet as it is Dan Aykroyd and Eddie Murphy when they started buying orange juice futures
It's going crazy my fellow giles county compatriot
Feels great to be on the good side of crazy for once!
We are 40 points ahead of UVA.
They are further from us than we are to FSU
They are going to mess around and find out that you can't hored a bunch of super seniors and keep winning on a consistent basis
For anyone keeping track of the Average Composite Rankings, we are #6 in the ACC. Very close to SMU & UNC and not terribly far from FSU. We should finish this cycle in the top 4-5 in the conference.
Sieg would put us at 26, less than point from top 25
Can somebody pull together how many recruit commitments we got on (a) Thanksgiving Day, (b) yesterday, and (c) today so far? I'm getting them all mixed up, my head is spinning, and I really should get some work done.
At least I think these numbers are correct
The math checks out
I think we're at 12 or 13
We have 8 commitment threads on the front page.
I went ahead and looked at the announcement posts here.
Thanksgiving Week: (5) Messiah Mickens*, Maddox Cochrane*, Pierce Petersohn*, Roseby Lubintus, Marlen Bright*
1 December: (5) Troy Huhn*, Mathieu Lamah, Garrett Witherington, Thomas Wilder*, Zaevion Cleveland
2 December: (3) T-Ron Richardson, Davion Brown*, Benjamin Eziuka
* for 4 star prospects
Let me know if I missed any.
That's not including Cleveland's re-affirmation yesterday either
Adding Sieg and Wiggins would boost the class rating to 229.65 on 247. Good for 22nd over Shane and probably 21st when the fallout of Kiffin settles and 5th best in conference.
I think my only shock is that there are 4 teams in the Top 20 from the ACC with how putrid the conference has looked.
Miami and FSU will always recruit well.
Clemson has been for the better part of two decades now.
UNC has 39 commits. So it's just a volume thing.
Every team above Clemson has at least 27 commits.
We have 19.
I could get used to this P4 level recruiting thing
4* S - Matt Sieg
4* LB - Terry Wiggins
4* RB - Messiah Mickens4* WR - Davion Brown4* QB - Troy Huhn4* TE - Pierce Petersohn4* OT - Thomas Wilder4* OT - Marlen Bright3* LB - Mathieu Lamah3* IOL - Benjamin Eziuka3* CB - Amauri Polydor
3* OT - Roseby Lubintus3* OT - Maddox CochraneA mere 77% so far. Let's see if we can pump these numbers.
Landing the other three would leave penn state with just two commits
And we just landed a 4* that wasn't even on your list, lol
Interesting that the ODU QB, Colton Joseph, is going to enter the portal. Think we'll be in on him?
Just proving that VT absolutely can swing big nuts like the big dogs in recruiting with the right guys and resources in place
In the span of 2 weeks, Franklin is proving the potential to be even greater than even I thought it could be, and I've long been bullish on our potential
The sleeping giant has awoken
I am sure Franklin made it very clear what VT needs to do with resources, facilities, staffing, NIL, you name it, and he emphasized to "get ready" as he knew he was going to blow the barn doors off with recruiting. He said, "don't you worry about the recruits. I got those, but if you want them to keep coming Y/Y VT must do A,B,&C.
I can see him telling VT, "I'm meeting my end, now best get busy meeting yours".
From what he said immediately after the hiring, it looks like VT was already making those moves before they spoke to him and it went a long way is his deciding to come here.
I was pleasantly surprised at that comment. Also read it as shade towards another school(s) that didn't come prepared to their conversation with a plan (Arkansas?).
I would imagine if Franklin came in following Fuente who did some damage to the local area in reputation results might not be the way they are after all the work Pry did to repair what Fuente did. I have absolutely zero sauces to back this up its just my own gut feel that while Pry didnt get us where we wanted to go, in the end he still was a necessary bridge to help us along the way.
Back when Kirby Smart wanted to come to VT, we were playing the long game, holding out for Franklin
Kirby is lucky he didn't come here then. We were in no shape to have an elite coach here, it would have been completely wasted with an admin who didn't care to compete
Adrian Hamilton announcing something at 3PM today. Likely a flip to Michigan
Flipped to Michigan
Looks likely - also he is one of the lowest rated OL we have now which is crazy... Curious to hear which ones french likew the best
IIRC, French really liked Hamilton.
Who all that is currently committed is expected to sign tomorrow? Do we expect any last-minute additions that can move us up further up the rankings?
Though we've added a bunch of recruits recently, we still have a relatively small class given the likely number of individuals that will portal out. How many of these spots do we think will be filled from the portal vs recruits? It would be amazing to put together a competitive team in year one. Other teams have shown this is viable in the current landscape.
Sieg and Wiggins are flip targets from PSU. There's also Harley and Polydor. One other PSU commit remains after that, but it sounds like he's the least likely. Iwould imagine with how recent the commitments are that most or all sign.
Polydor visited VT last weekend and declared it a great visit.
I don't know what the Roster numbers look like but I am quite confident we will be bringing in quite a number from the Portal...there was no way this was going to be a big H.S. class---Franklin is damn near a miracle worker with what he has done already.
But we need some guys with experience who can play immediately if we really intend on competing next year.
Defensively, we almost have a complete rebuild--the entire secondary will be new starters (hopefully), all the LB other than Chambers, and numerous DL are all needs there.
Offensively, I expect a Portal QB, OL depends upon how many of Moore's guys stay, skill positions are about the only area that we have some proven production that could return.
This is a really good point, and I'm sure people smarter than me could hash out the depth and experience piece.
Once the dust settles I'd love for someone, user or staff doesn't matter, to deep-dive HS recruits and portal transfers in/out to get a better idea of 2-deep etc. But for now I'm enjoying the ride!
It has been like ten whole minutes since the last 4 star recruit committed to us. What gives?!
Time to fire franklin, hes washed
"He's lost the recruiting room."
Now I understand why PSU fans wanted him gone
My only concern on Franklin will be the portal work. He wasnt stellar in the portal but hopefully clears that mindset going forward to be able to pursue needs, especially these first two seasons to give his draft classes time to develop.
He didn't have a potential goldmine that is PSU to pull from before, now, did he?
I think he'll do just fine, at least for this year. π€£
Signal is UP!
Here's the thing that I think is lost in all of this excitement. Justin Fuente had a couple of really good classes. However, they weren't terribly well put together. The pieces didn't complement each other and he wasn't working to fill gaps in the roster.
I know the entire roster is a gap right now, but we do seem to be hitting on a couple significant positions of need.
From PSU's recruiting class (includes decommits):
4* RB - Messiah Mickens4* WR - Davion Brown4* LB - Tyson Harley4* QB - Troy Huhn4* TE - Pierce Petersohn4* OT - Marlen Bright3* LB - Mathieu Lamah3* IOL - Benjamin Eziuka3* OT - Roseby LubintusFrom other school's recruiting classes
4* OT - Thomas Wilder(decommitted from VT then came back)3* DL - T-Ron Richardson(Oklahoma decommit)3* DE - Garrett Witherington(Kentucky flip)3* OT - Maddox Cochrane(Wisconsin decommit)Numbers are indeed being pumped. ABC.
Again from /r/cfb
DL Kamren Johnson confirms he's staying with the Hokies
24/7 composite 3 star .8511
Also, Will Love, brother of John, confirmed earlier that he will also be a Hokie. The 24/7 list is current with all commits at the moment
I guess that makes Blacksburg the city of brotherly Love
I am ready to fall in love with this recruiting class and follow their progress towards championships.
Welcome to Upside Down VT Signing Day 2026
I think West Virginia must of dropped hella bags for Sieg last night. Because on On3 he got 3 predictions to WVU
Yep that's the only explanation. They weren't in his top 5
Purgatory will sign at 215pm
The signal is up for another one!
JP Oats
When does wiggins decide?
edit to time for Wiggins: Noon thirty. Found the post that mentioned the times
Tavian Branch at 2ish
Branch chose Auburn.
Working on a different flip
And Wiggins is inπ€
Good news for Penn State. Their lone recruit left confirmed he signed. A high star Edge Jackson Ford
Damn, I think of all of them, a high 4 star EDGE is the one I would want the most.
Up #22 nationally, #5 in the ACC after passing SMU
Per Michigan On3, we're pushing hard for WR Travis Johnson
He's currently a Michigan commit .9516 composite 4 Star out of Oscar Smith
Moar Johnson (π) pls
A few interviews Franklin has done today he's told the story of Pierce asking him "who's my TE coach gonna be", "what's the TE room look like" "whos the OC going to be" and Franklin just having to say "you're going to have to trust me" says a lot about his ability to sell and his relationships. Incredible he's been able to do this so far.
