The 7-3 Ladies host the 2-8 Presbyterian Blue Hose today at 6 PM. The game will be broadcast on the ACC Network extra platform. ESPN predictor says 99% Hokies. I assume Evan Hughes and Mac McCarthy; but the Hokies have not posted a program for this game. This is another warmup game for the Hokies. They play the Blue Hose today and ETSU Sunday before starting into the main part of the ACC schedule at Florida State on Dec 18.
Presbyterian's two wins were in the season opener at home against Warren Wilson 112-45 and at home against Erskine 86-50. In the one common opponent, the Hokies beat Coastal Carolina 82-59 and Presbyterian lost to them 87-38. The Blue Hose are on a five game losing streak.

The Blue Hose are a short team. They have two players over 6' tall; but neither played in their last game. Only #4 5' 9" soph guard Morgan Boyd has started every game. # 21 5' 5" soph guard Daniella Velez has started 7 games and started the last game. #23 5' 10" soph guard Krystal Haddock has also started 7 games and started the last game. The other two starters in the last game were #1 5' 5" junior guard Ore Ogumwolere, who has started 5 games and #8 5'10" freshman guard Aretha Linger, who has started 3 games. #0 5' 8" senior guard Animata Tal has played in every game and started 6 games. Ten different players have started 3 or more games. Five players have played in all ten games.

Everyone in orange and maroon should play today and the Ladies may score 100. I really don't know what to say about Presbyterian. They are not a good team. They have a 2:1 turnover to assist ratio. Only their leading scorer #0 Tal scores in double digits. They shoot 35.3% overall and 27.5% from three.

Maybe Carleigh can work on her shooting in this game and get her stroke back. We can't afford for her to continue to play the way she has been when we get to the ACC part of the schedule. She has this game and ETSU to figure it out. i would not be surprised to see the whole starting lineup score in double digits today.
LET'S GO HOKIES!

Let's Go!
Hokies!
This game should be ugly and over just after tip off.
Presbyterian is dead last in NET Ranking.
As much as getting Wenzel going is a priority, my top priority here is to get Petersen back to where she was.
I am not sure there really is a getting going for Wenzel. Her numbers year over year are not very different although down a little.
Last year she shot 34.7% overall. 33.6% outside. 35.4% inside. Rebounds 3.3, Assists 3.7 and scored 14 ppg with 3.5 turnovers.
This year she shot 33.3% overall. 30.8% outside. 35.8% inside. Rebounds 3, Assists 3.8 and scored 15 ppg with 3.5 turnovers.
The piece that kills me with her is inside shooting is still so bad. Most players shoot 30-40% on perimeter but then shoot 45-55% inside. She is almost as bad inside and out.
That said, the really unfortunate part is how much this team has to rely on her scoring to be competitive because no one else is doing it consistently. There is a bit of catch 22 there though since its tough for other players to step up when Carleigh is taking all the shots.
The team as a whole does shoot better as they are shooting 40.1% overall so makes we wonder if Wenzel took less shots what improvement we might see in scoring. Wenzel and Baker take 25.3 of the teams 65.3 shots per game so tough to judge if they shot less what we might see.
Carleigh is the worst overall in our starting five. Nelson shoots 37%, Baker 42%, Daley 48% and Freelon 53%.
I have yet to be really impressed by Freelon. It seems like she is constantly in trouble with fouls.
Carleigh is Carleigh and is good for at least 3 WTF moments per game unfortunately.
I am looking forward to a lot of bench players getting time today.
Part of the problem for Freelon is that Duffy has no one else in the paint to defend. She goes w-2-w on defense and they give up a ton of slashing actions that leave Freelon on an island. Offensively they dont run plays to get her the ball down low which is her strength instead relying on Wenzel and Baker taking jump shots.
Kitley is the analyst tonight. She may have a future in that roll.
26-8 already woof
Blue Hose. What a stupid name lol. Every time I hear it on the broadcast, all I can hear is "Blue Hoes"
At the half, the Hokies have a 32 point lead.
Presbyterian has more fouls and turnovers than points.
The Hokies have 7 more rebounds than Presbyterian has shots.
Still not on pace for 100. Need to pick it up. Hokies still only shot 43% overall and 17% from three against a clearly overmatched opponent. Only reason its not uglier is a bunch of bunny baskets in transition after steals.
The FTs are killing me
9-21?!?!?!? That's about 7 more, free, points left on the table
42.9%? I would think I could have done better in college.
Yeah easily should have 60 points already, possibly 65.
Really strange to see a Hokie BB team that does not shoot the three well. We are 1 for 6 in the first half.
Unfortunately they didnt shoot well inside either. This kind of game they should be shooting 60% overall but are at 43% instead. Taking out threes they are 17/36 (47%) inside and had 6 baskets off turnovers in transition. Means they were 11/30 from inside when running their half court offense.
Spela Sighting
And she scores immediately
THIRD QUARTER BISCUITS
And they have a starter foul out.
Swanson, Wells, you better work on those FTs. 1-4 is awful.
Through 3 quarters, Hokies up by 53, shooting 52.6% from the field.
Still have more rebounds than Presbyterian has shots.
Presbyterian hasn't hit a basket in over 8 minutes.
Every Hokie has scored. Wells with a career night at 11.
BATMAN!!
This is a ridiculous statline.
Five Hokies with career highs in scoring.
We had more steals than they had baskets.
We had more assists than they had baskets.
We had more 13 more rebounds than they had points and as many rebounds as they had shots.
They had fewer baskets than we had fouls.
We won by 56, yet only shot 50% from the FT line and 25% from beyond the arc.
In a game where we had 92 points, 46 rebounds, 17 assists, and 13 steals, nobody had a double double.
I am good with the last one. All twelve players played at least 10 minutes and scored 4 or more
The only really glaring number on the box score though is unfortunately Carleigh shooting the ball.
Four other starters: 16 for 27
Carleigh: 2 for 11 in only 18 minutes. 1 for 7 inside the perimeter.
Only two players on our bench shot less than 50%. Unfortunately one of those was Petersen. 1 for 3 in 14 minutes. Swanson shot 2 for 8.
Swanson/Petersen/Wenzel: 5 for 22
Rest of the Team:
16 for 27 Starters
17 for 24 Bench
Three players missed 17 shots
Nine players missed 18 shots
FAM for the W... next!
It was the team we needed after the last game.
