I'm of the opinion if we can make it work out lets do so. I agree that we are generally good in the RB room and need to focus on other areas of need. But he could certainly work that Debo Samuels sort of role in our offense (should we have one) as he's just a gamer. He reminds me of one of those old school Beamer recruits... He simply got them home (to VT) and found a place for them.
Yeah, RB room is pretty set with Hawkins, Overton, Mickens and Mason/Coney are able to come in as needed. Time is limited and it should be focused on QB, a sure-fire starter OL, probably a receiver, and everything on defense.

They were firing his coach and the OC is extremely pass happy and Manning is back next year. Running backs got less than 24 carries per game in the Texas offense this year. Texas is losing two big backs as Jerrick Gibson is also hitting the portal. Gibson was a 96 rated 4 🌟 coming in.

Can't really fault running backs wanting to run the ball and Texas was 101st in rushing and with Manning back that doesn't appear to be changing.

No. Portal doesn't officially open until January so these are a lot of early entries that are really premature. The flood hasn't happened yet and I would think some players need to finish finals.
Which makes the fact they are already tracking over 500 names just crazy and indicative of how screwed up the game is these days. Seen estimates they expect as high as 3500 in the portal this year.
On the bright side, that does mean it should be possible for us to replace our entire defense.
It'll be interesting to see how many of Franklin's players will transfer to Tech, especially on D since there may be a few that may have played for Pry before he left, but most would have played for a different DC and likely different position coaches. Let's see how big the Franklin draw is...
Not sure any are still eligible from Pry's days there. It's been 4 years. May be some guys who got recruited by him but never played for him.
Yeah, I was thinking they'd have to be redshirt seniors or someone who also had a medical year. I was originally guessing one or two, but maybe a few more. Feeling too lazy to go do the research, even though I imagine it would just be going to the roster and looking for redshirt seniors on D.

What makes the portal distasteful is the NIL money moves that go with it.
Are those numbers just FBS?
If so, that's 25 players per team.
If that includes FCS, that's 13 per team.
If that's all levels of NCAA, that's about 5.25 per team.
On3 only tracks D1 and D2 they anticipate moving up I believe. For many schools, this is the first time adjusting to the 105 person rosters as it technically wasnt official this season. Still may not effect the number as much as coaching turnovers and accounting for playing time opportunities.
and D2 guys do move up. Hawkins was VT's best offensive player, and a form Emory and Henry WR was in the two deep at OKST
playing at OK ST wasnt quite moving up this past season they were really bad, and thats compared to VT.

QB Raiola in the portal out of Nebraska. Had season ending broken fibula in November so curious what his market ends up being. Nine games 2000 yards but 72% completion percentage. Never watched Nebraska so no idea if it was just check down central or what. I guess his brother decommitting was a sign.
Their OL was almost as bad as ours so it's tough to get a good feel for his ceiling. He was also good for a really dumb throw at least once a game.

He started at a P4 school straight out of high school and was immediately a competent P5 QB. He has a ton of upside, but he was not in the best situation in regards to OL and pass catchers at Nebraska.

I'm hoping not. He was a backup at PSU for a reason and at Mizzou he threw 11 touchdowns and 7 interceptions before he got hurt. NIL these days he'll probably make money at a G5 program instead of being a backup again.
He probably does. It's not the most exciting option, but it probably isn't too high a cost so lets us spend on other positions. I'm fine with it for one year, it's an upgrade over the previous 3 years, but there are definitely better options in the portal. I would love to see Minchey or Van Buren (not in the portal).

We closely follow this kid because he is from my wife's hometown/HS and we know the basketball coach he played for at York Central.
This kid reminds me of Michael Brewer, and he would be a blast to watch. However, I don't think Franklin is looking for a dual threat quarterback.
The other thing that comes into play is Penn State was his dream school from the crib.
With his PSU passion his transfer to Missouri was likely *only* due to Franklin telling him he didn't "fit" in his offense.
As much as I would love him to come to VT.... Don't see it.
Word from York sources say that Beau isn't going back to Penn State. The two front runners for him appear to be VT and Louisville.
My understanding is that Howle and Franklin will be building a pro style offense that will rely heavily on quick hitting plays. Fundamentals (blocking) and formations that create a mismatch for the defense (such as 12 personnel w/2 TE's) does not scream "mobile RPO quarterback" to me.
Don't get me wrong, Beau has a lot of potential in the right system and is fun to watch. We will root for him wherever he goes.... But IMO if Franklin goes after him it is as a bit player. Or they don't think they will have the pieces in place for the offense they want the first year.
I'm okay with not him. As a backup plan to Grunkmeyer? Sure. But not as 1A.

It's all gossip, no one knows the actual number. From my Auburn friends, Hugh Freeze was giving out money like candy and the top players for Auburn last year (Coleman, Simmons, Faulk, etc.) were a lot. I would not be surprised if some of them were making 500k -1M
