Texas A&M to hire Cornelson? Was this meant to be on the Dad Jokes thread? Seriously? Did he greatly improve at wherever he was after VT, because I can't imagine anyone beyond a mid-level high school seriously wanting him.

I saw this reported yesterday and couldn't believe it myself.

To be fair, Fireman did clarify the hire:

That is so strange. Dude has been coaching high school this year and is now getting tapped for an sec job at the school with the biggest athletic budget in the country?

personally, never been a fan of Wiggins. All the best to him but not a fan.

I hope the first play he calls is a jet sweep in honor of Brad.

to the boundary

Brad: I am going to call a key sweep here
Team: Gotcha coach
Brad: But wait they'll expect a jet sweep to the wide side so we will run it to the boundary
Team: ::nods:::
Brad: But they will expect that i know that they know that I will run it to the wide side so they will expect a run to the boundary so wide side
Team: :::confused look:::
Brad: But they know that they know that I know that we won't have the blockers so boundary
Brad: But if they know that I know that they know that I know we dont have blockers they'll expect it so wide side
Kill: Running the fucking play before I deck you
Brad: Boundary it is!

Criminally underrated movie. Came out a decade and a half too early.

I know ya'll are making fun of Corny, but lets not forget how Stiney would REGULARLY run a jet sweep or WR screen to the boundary... And always with the guy who just returned the kick the play before. SMH....

Is coronavirus over yet?

I think a lot of the people on this site were not old enough or were not VT fans back then to truly appreciate how aggravating it was to have to watch a Stinespring-led offense at VT.

The biggest aggravation was that in most years Bud was churning out defenses that would've held their weight for national title teams, and Stinespring was churning out offense that would've suited most 8-4 teams just fine, and they were combining to go 10-2 in an era where 10-2 meant you had no shot at a national championship.

Would love to know Bud's true honest feelings on Stinespring, Loeffler, Cornleson...
You can count on one hand the number of times we had a better offense than defense (tbh i can only think of one time - 2010). Bud was more than pulling his weight, and those guys often were not

Unfortunately, I don't think Frank ever wanted a high flying offense. It seemed he liked ball control/TOP games. I'd be interested to see what type of offense he runs at Roanoke College.

Say what you will about Stiney (most of us here have) but at least he's doing way better at Roanoke than Corn did at the high school level.

I suspect you are right about what Beamer wanted. But you do not need an exciting or high flying offense to be good. You can play ball control smash mouth football mixing in play action passes and be very good, It's just that Stinespring's offenses so often were awful, especially relative to some of the RBs and QBs we had. And, as was mentioned above by another, if we had a good offense - not great, just above average - we could have been so good paired up with Foster's units. Boring offense that is good is fine. Boring offense that is bad is, well, just boring and bad.

That's a lot of what excited us about Fuente, the potential to mix an exciting, productive offense (like he oversaw at TCU and Memphis) with Bud Foster's defense. God, we were salivating over that!

Oh well. =^/

Every week during the football season I get a Facebook memory of me complaining about the offense.

Wet stuff on the red stuff.

Did a quick google search of Corny and it looks like he just stepped down as Head Whistle Enid High School in Enid, Oklahoma last week. Link to the Article

From the article,

Cornelsen spent one season as the Plainsmen's head coach, and they went 0-10 in the 2025 season.

During the 2025 season, Enid averaged only 4.9 points per game, and it gave up 62.9 points per game. Out of 10 games this season, Enid gave up more than 60 points in six games, and more than 70 points in three games this year.

Oh my god hahahahaha have all sorts of fun with that aTm

I imagine Wiggins is throwing him a bone. He'll likely be some inconsequential analyst or something. Kinda like the guy who you ask what they would do so you know what not to do

Onward and upward

Okay, I have never played any high school or college football and I think I could do a better job than that.

Also, Wiki lists his HC record at Sam Houston as 1-0? What happened there???? LOL

Yep, looked it up... Brad Cornelsen was named interim head coach for Sam Houston at the 2024 New Orleans Bowl, after K. C. Keeler departed in early December for Temple.
