Just as a PSA, if you see the VTCC C/O 2017 be sure to congratulate them! Today they are completing the second 13 miles of the Caldwell march which will see them march back to the Upper Quad and concludes their Freshmen training.
Its a major milestone and I remember my turn day very fondly. They are expected back between 1:30 and 2:15 so right around the time the scrimmage should wrap up, so please express your support for this newest class of the VTCC!

Big day for me. Ran the 3.2 and figured I'd walk around the Merryman center. Ran into the legend himself- Bud Foster. He introduced himself and showed me mercy by not breaking my hand on the shake. I can die happy

It was there last year. Well at least the play where Logan destroyed Myles Jack and carried the entire UCLA defense for another 10 yards was a speed option.

My take away: Ford is going to be a really good quarterback for us one day. Maybe not this year, but some of his throws were absolutely perfect. Marshawn looked really good as well.

If we are running a more mobile style (Wild Turkey, Speed Option) of offense, why would Motley not be ahead of the game, having played in a mobile style of offense in high school?

After today it looks like he might be. He looked better than his stats showed even and looks to be emerging as a more vocal leader on the field. He definitely looks the part.

Just a few things I saw from the scrimmage today:
-corey marshall is going to cause problems for a lot of teams. He's really disruptive and gets from sideline to sideline in a hurry.
-Motley started off sharp, hitting receivers in the numbers, but throws started to sail on him later on. Bucky got behind the entire defense and had his man beat by a few steps, but the pass was overthrown.
-They ran the wildcat with bucky, and I think it will have some success this season. He hits the gap hard and had a few good runs today.
-Everybody knows it, but marshawn williams is a man-child. Im actually a huge fan of edmunds but from the admittedly extremely small sample size Ive seen of williams, he seems to be the most natural and instinctive running back weve had since ryan williams. He makes great cuts and hits the gap in no time. Had a few positive runs today where it looked like there was nothing there.
-The 2nd team O-line couldn't hold its own today against the 1st team d-line in passing situations, which is not surprising. They were getting pressure on Ford almost immediately after the snap. I'm not sure who was at center for the 2nd team, but at least 5+ snaps were on the ground.
-Ford started off the day probably trying to do too much that resulted in some ill-advised throws. I'm guessing it was a combination of that and frustration from having no time to throw. I came into this scrimmage pretty skeptical of Ford because of his lack of arm strength but he made some beautiful passes that have me excited about his future. He had a damn good pass where it looked like he threw deon newsome open on a post route (a la logan thomas to danny coale against GT 2011) that hit him in the numbers and would have been a touchdown but was dropped. He also threw a couple great balls on the run and had a really nice touch pass that went for a td.
-Other than his drop on ford's nicest pass of the day, deon had a good scrimmage, and I think he'll factor into the rotation this year. He's a really quick player and hopefully he'll have some exciting plays for us this year.
-Knowles also had a good day beating the defense deep once on a semi diving/falling catch that went for 40+ from Motley. He also took a short pass the distance (50+ yards) just by being faster than everybody else on the field.
-Overall, pretty decent scrimmage, and I think marshawn's running was definitely the most impressive/exciting thing about today. There's a lot of bodies at the rb position so they won't just hand out carries, but I think marshawn is going to demand them.

I believe Adam Taraschke was working at center for the second team offense. After Ford fumbled a couple snaps under center and several shotgun snaps ended up on the ground, Taraschke got pulled to the sideline where he practiced snapping the ball with Motley and David Wang. He looked alright when he did it on the sideline; maybe he just freaks out when he has Luther Maddy and Corey Marshall breathing down his neck.

Looks like Williams is going to get a lot of carries this fall & if he can avoid injury will be a monster at RB , something we have not seen In a while.

The good: Marshawn Williams (he was a man among boys out there), Brendon Motley (much more impressive than Leal was last week playing with the 1's), Demitri Knowles (sigh of relief), Deon Newsome (one bad drop, but he gets open), Andrew Ford was REALLY impressive once he wasn't getting mauled by 1st team DL, also Deon Clarke is gonna make some plays.
The bad: Words cannot describe how ineffective the 2nd team OL was at blocking the 1st team DL (they may as well of not even been there), snapping the damn ball, JCC was pretty stagnate in the running game.
Other highlights: Loeffler's anger induced paper tornado was truly a spectacle, Stacy Searels threw a hat, Beamer likes to practice kicking
I may have forgotten something, but any questions you have may jog my memory

That Loefler paper toss was hilarious. He threw them further than 90% of the paper airplanes. He also had a funny moment when the offensive line didnt run to celebrate a TD. He yelled "get your asses down into that endzone and celebrate with your teammates." I like his energy but Id never want to piss him off
There was a point where the woman next to me couldnt find Foster. I told her to wait until another play happened for the offense and listen. Sure enough, the next play he was yelling and flailing around. She never lost him again

Before we got Brewer everyone was talking about "Leal or Ford" and I tried to remind people not to forget about Motley. But Brewer definitely adds to the mix. At this point in time, I think Leal is still ahead of Motley, but Motley definitely tried to make the most of his opportunity. If Leal still can't go next week I think that will open the door nice and wide for Motley to walk through. If Brewer can come in and learn quickly in the summer and leapfrog Motley and Leal I think he'll start. Otherwise, unless Leal shows us something that he didn't show in the first scrimmage I predict Motley to win the starting Job. Ford and Durkin should (and if I had to guess, will) redshirt.
But I'm not Mason or French...soo I could be way way wrong

I appreciate when people give their analysis and then acknowledge that they may not know what they are talking about. Too many people throw observations out and then act like they are Jon Gruden watching film.

I would agree here as well. Motley stepped up and had a good day. yes i'm sure he missed some things but overall it looked very clean and he threw the ball well. the deep on to knowles was on the money! This battle will be something to watch for the next 2 weeks until the Spring Game. Then it will vamp up in the Summer for sure, if Motley can continue to improve I think he might be starting day 1. However we don't know whats going on in the film room/practices.

It was hilarious. One of his tackles didn't get out quickly enough on a screen that resulted in lost yardage. Searels threw his hat in there before the whistle was even blown.

That is not how I remember my turn day at all. Kids these days. :D
I mean there was yelling and PT and all, but thats part of the fun isnt it? At least thats what they tell us...
Big day for me. Ran the 3.2 and figured I'd walk around the Merryman center. Ran into the legend himself- Bud Foster. He introduced himself and showed me mercy by not breaking my hand on the shake. I can die happy
Did he Mad dog you until you started crying and submitted?...
I did the run as well, lots of credit to the corps as well, a squad did the run carrying part of a telephone pole.
That was AFSOPT Armed Forces Special Ops Prep Team. The only Cadet killed, Matt La Porte was both a member of AFSOPT and the Highty Tighties.
The speed option is looking like its making its way back into our offense and I like it
It was there last year. Well at least the play where Logan destroyed Myles Jack and carried the entire UCLA defense for another 10 yards was a speed option.
Thanks for the input y'all provide for those of us who can't be there
Marshawn Williams has looked REAL good today. Motley as well. Ford not so much
Ford's been heating up. Threw a dime to #20 for what would have been a touchdown except for a drop
#20 is Deon Newsome - he needs to catch those if he's going to make some noise this year.
Wild Turkey has made an appearance. Bucky fakes handoff to Marshawn. Gains 10
I was 7 seconds late on that lol
2 plays this drive
Wild turkey is back
First person to congratulate Ford on a TD pass: Mark Leal. Ran out there to give him a high five
Marshawn in for 1 versus 1s
My take away: Ford is going to be a really good quarterback for us one day. Maybe not this year, but some of his throws were absolutely perfect. Marshawn looked really good as well.
I am looking forward to being down there the next two weekends.

I counted 3 low or bobbled snaps to Ford just in these highlights.

Something, I hope, many opposing centers will have issues with

We really do need to practice that kicking...

Do you think Motley did enough to pass Leal on the depth chart? and if not, what major point or two is keeping him from doing so?
Based off of just this scrimmage? Yes, but I have no clue whats going on behind the scenes everyday at practice
Before we got Brewer everyone was talking about "Leal or Ford" and I tried to remind people not to forget about Motley. But Brewer definitely adds to the mix. so you're saying that I don't know what I'm talking about!?!?!?
haha..I kid, I kid. I really don't know what I'm talking about so I don't take any offense to being called out
I would agree here as well. I need a picture/video of this next time. Lets get on this.

You forgot the ugly!
