OT: Portal Question

On this Portalsmas Eve, I have a question for anyone who might know.

Is there an actual time of day that the portal officially opens or is it just midnight EST?

12:01am. To 12:00am on January 16th so yes its possible for people to enter tonight after midnight. Only hangup is technically I think the school has to submit them to the portal for it to be official. Doubt many schools will be dropping it until sometime tomorrow morning.

ESPN article said don't be surprised when people are announcing at 12:01am. Almost more excited to stay up for this than New Year's Eve

The Portal doesn't recognize time of day. The Portal is eternal. It was, is, and always will be.

All hail portal.

Like with eligibility, their rules often supercede natural laws like time.

Come on portal! Start portalling already!

Nick Saban is sending out a warning signal to all.

With the college football transfer portal opening Friday, people can only expect "chaos" to ensue.

"OK, so chaos in college football starts tomorrow, the portal," Saban said Thursday on ESPN's "College GameDay" broadcast before the three College Football Playoff quarterfinals.

"There's all already been 120 starters say they're getting in the portal from big Power 4 schools."

.

Sounds like the hold up is the schools officially entering the kids in the portal. I am sure that's not stopping conversation or visits but schools can't "officially" offer until that step is done.

Do you think schools intentionally drag their feet to try to convince players to stay, or is it just more of a painful administrative burden that they drag on because they'd rather not have to do it in the first place?

Combination of those two plus its Winter Break so employees take leave so less people available to execute the task. I wouldnt be surprised if some schools dont get around to it until Monday. Honestly think players should have the ability to enter themselves.

I wonder if it's so the schools can validate how much eligibility the player/student has, where the player may intentionally or otherwise list their eligibility incorrectly (assuming that's something that's entered, possibly also academic eligibility stuff?).

What's academic eligibility? I've never heard such a thing related to the portal.

Go Hokies!!

Academic eligibility is when you're close to failing out. I can't remember who it was, but I want to say we had someone who wasn't going to be able to come back for his last year because he was going to be academically suspended, so he opted for the draft instead. Some players may qualify at certain universities and not others based on their grades.

The NCAA has their own rules (2.3 gpa for D1, 2.2 for D2, and anything goes at D3, which may be why some players transfer to lower tier schools), but my understanding is that universities will have their own rules about what grades they require students to maintain. So maybe GPA is included, or at least something saying they meet the NcAA academic requirements?

Adonis went to the supplemental draft due to grades issues

That's who I was thinking of, thanks!

It's interesting to watch Finebaum cry about the chaos of the portal and Alabama getting exposed in the playoffs, as you know some big money is going to be spent this week.

Alabama and Ohio State are probably writing some big checks as they choke back the tears.

Someone must have cheated to only have 1 sec team in the semis

Danny is always open

Yup, Bama, UGA, LSU, OU, Texas all probably cheated, add in ESPN too.
