WBB at Louisville Jan 4 at 4 PM

The 11-4, 1-2 Ladies travel to Louisville today to face the 13-3, 3-0 Cardinals at 4 PM. The game is on the ACC Network. Not much time today; so mostly just the tables. Since I did not have much time, the pastor went long today; and I have an appointment at 1 o'clock. Louisville is currently ranked #13 and is given 91.7% chance to win in the ESPN matchup predictor. Their three losses are to #1 UConn, #12 Kentucky and #3 South Carolina. They have beaten #15 UNC and #22 Tennessee. The Hokies are going to have to play very well to be competitive in this one.

They will probably start senior, a junior and 3 sophomores. The back line will be only one guard #22 5' 10" Soph Roberts. The rest of the players will be 6'0, 6' 2'', 6' 3" and 6'3". We will really have to battle on the boards.

Loiusville is pretty good. We will have to play our best basketball to stay with them.

Maybe the Lieutenant or someone can add some wisdom in the comments.

LET'S GO HOKIES!

ESPN can eat a giant male member. lolUVA vs F$U game is in 2OT, but they say the VT game should be on ACC Network Xtra...but it is nowhere to be found in the ESPN app.

Missed nearly the entirety of the first quarter thanks to their ineptitude.

This same thing happened to Duke -Georgia Tech on men's side with our 3OT game. That game was two minutes from Halftime when ours finally ended.

Louisville just a better passing team than us. Fraction of seconds faster difference between gimme buckets/wide open shots and them closing out defense on ours

They also appear to be individually more talented and/or technically proficient than the Hokies, which just exacerbates our turnover tendencies. It's tough to watch.

Not getting the shot off to end the half epitomizes Wenzel's season.

0-10 from 3. Baker is 0-4 but 4-9 overall.

Starting 5 scored 21 points in 20 minutes.
Suffren only scorer off bench.

Start second half by allowing them a 43 second first possession that had two fouls on Hokies, three out of bounds plays, two offensive rebounds and finally the bucket.

So out of position for defensive rebounding. Lazy passing on offense.

They do have moments of bright spots...but they are fleeting moments. This has been tough to watch.

OK had to turn it off. Just getting blown out because we cant score and giving them second and third chances on almost every miss by them.

Does the TV money count in any way for WBB like it does for football? If so, keep your TV tuned in to keep our #s up, haha!

From people inside the department the only year WBB broke even was when we went to the final four. It is a loss leader every year.

Hokies will be historical footnote for Louisville coach getting his 500th win.

That's wild because we also allowed the Miami coach to get her 500th before this one.

Looked completely non-competitive today.

Go Hokies!!

0 for 16 from 3. Wenzel and Baker 0-9.

Wenzel 1-10 overall.

Suffren and Baker combine for 30. Rest of the team combine for 30.

18 turnovers
Did force 15 turnovers and only outscored 18/17 on turnovers.

85-60 loss.

Nelson also with just 1 assist.
Everyone with just an uninspired game. Like you said earlier... just a half a second late, one step late, etc., etc., etc.
Suffern did play pretty decent, however.

I seldom speak to loluva grads, but when I do, I tell them I want large fries.

Yeah it was just crystal clear watching the difference of these two teams moving the ball.

I missed the game, came here and read the first line of this comment, and that was all I needed to read. =^/

"Yes I am going to have favorites. My favorites are high production and low maintenance players, coaches, and staff." - JMFF

Yep summed it up although even if they shot their normal 32% its still a double digit loss. Second half we couldn't pull a rebound and were giving Louisville three or four chances to score. We let them shoot 58% (11/19) from three and much of that was second chance rebound kicked out to wide open shooter.

What's the status of the program in year two of Duffy? Are we seeing improvements? Think she's going to be able to rebuild the program?

First time I've had a chance to pay attention to a WBB game this year and...we looked terrible.

Hokies United l Ut Prosim

I agree with you, we looked terrible. Our team just doesn't have any consistency on offense, and unable to produce defensive stops when crunch time comes. I like our players, they're trying their best for sure, but it just seems like we need better players in general. When they're all hitting, we can win with them. When they're all hitting.

Reel men fish on Wednesdays

Two big problems is lack of discipline defensively. Lots of lost assignments in the W2W game Duffy wants. Same problem in second half against Miami where they blew a 19 point lead in the last 13 minutes. The second is just lazy passing offensively. Two games in a row opponents have had 18 points off turnovers. Hokies had 16 turnovers against Miami and 18 against Louisville. Those numbers represent about 25% of total possessions. Then the team shoots 42%/41% in those two games. Means they are scoring on roughly 30% of possessions. Not going to win many games that way. They clearly dont have enough size and yet some of the size they do have (Baker) plays the majority of the game on the perimeter on both ends of the floor.

To me the biggest issue by far is lack of post players.
on defense there's no backstop when our guards are beaten, nobody to haul in defensive rebounds, nobody to slow down a good post on the other team
on offense, it puts extra pressure on the guards who are probably pretty good when part of an inside-out offense but no true post threat on the floor for us means the D can lock out in on perimeter shooters.

And our 3-pt shooting as noted during the telecast is way down. Last season second in ACC (38%), this year 14th in ACC (28%) before yesterday's debacle. Baker is best and she is below our average from last year. Just can't score anywhere consistently.

Go Hokies!!

This was first time since Dec 21st 2015 the Hokies failed to make a three.

It wasn't for lack of trying.

Doesn't matter if it's cake or pie as long as it's chocolate.
