WBB at Syracuse Jan 8 at 6 PM

The 11-5, 1-3 Ladies travel to Syracuse today to play the 13-2, 3-1 Orange. This will be an ACCN extra game. ESPN matchup predictor says 58.6% Syracuse. The Orange two losses are to #9 Michigan and RV Duke. Wins in ACC at SMU and WF and home to FSU. Not much write up for this one; packing to start the winter migration to Florida tomorrow.

We will have a height disadvantage again tonight. Syracuse starts 6'0", 5'10", 6'3", 6'2" and 6'3". First two off the bench are 6'2" and 6'1". One freshman, one junior, two seniors and a grad student.

Three players score in double digits at 12.5, 12.6, and 13.7 ppg. Another starter at 9.2. They score 74.8 ppg and allow 56.9. Outrebound opponents by 12 per game. Shoot 43.4% overall and 27.7% from three; 67.5% on free throws. Best three point shooter shoots 39.6%; everyone else is under 30%. They make less than 5 threes per game.

This game will be a challenge. Unless we play and shoot better than we have recently, I don't have much hope. Another 0 for night from three and this will be a blow out. And we have to find a way to keep Syracuse off the offensive boards; Louisville got 19 second chances on missed shots in the last game.

In our common ACC opponent FSU, we won 79-54 in Tallahassee. Syracuse beat FSU 82-72 at home. Maybe an indication we could have a chance. But we have to cut down on the turnovers and find a way to be competitive on the boards.

LET'S GO HOKIES!

Things went from rosy to less than in a heartbeat this season. Between the men and the women, I really don't think we have much to show at this point. I'll still watch, still root hard, but it's just getting harder and harder after the bright early season wins.
The Hokies have to shoot, Carleigh has to score, but I still have little hope for this game tonight.

I agree. The WBB loss to Miami and last night's MBB loss to Standford...woof. Those are going to be hard to make up for as any wins going forward are going to feel like a fluke until it's a sustained string of wins.

But, like you, I'll never stop rooting for them! GO HOKIES!

Really surprised ESPN Analytics has it that close. Was expecting 70+% since its up there and they will kill us inside. Unless we Reverse Uno our 3% from last game and shoot like 60% I am not expecting a win here.

Guess they decided they could Reverse UNO. 66.7% from 3.

One thing jumping out at me: what does the home crowd look like if this was at Cassell? πŸ˜†

0 turnovers is a big deal. They've had a really good 1 qtr. However, to be picky, I've seen about 4 missed layups and one air-balled three. Make half of those and we have another about 6 points.

I seldom speak to loluva grads, but when I do, I tell them I want large fries.

Two lazy passes... two turnovers!

Somebody must have lit a fire under Peterson. She's been much more aggressive tonight than I've seen all year. Now if she can just finish.

And then an injury...

Did not expect only 3 attempts from outside at this point. Good to see them take it inside with success

Bad last two minutes...

Feel like this could just be saved to the template at this point.

Plan for the worst and hope for the best, not the other way around.

Got to figure out how to get Wentzel more efficient.

Glad we didn't have a letdown coming out of halftime.

Just run clock and trade baskets now in the fourth.

Yeah I'm not up for a repeat of what the men did last night. I want them to go for the jugular and that's what they are apparently doing.

The men didnt run clock unfortunately. Went back last night and looked at second half possessions. Last five minutes we had six possessions of 15 seconds or less.

Big road win. Hopefully 3 pt shooting moves closer to the 35% mark

Was cool to see the Nelson sisters playing against each other.

Was a surprising outcome, for sure! Only got to see bits and pieces while I was making dinner, but it definitely seemed like a better controlled game from the Lady Hokies. Of course, where we were at in the previous games leaves a lot of room for improvement, but this game was in the right direction!

Good to see shots going in consistently.

25% of shots from 3 in 25 point loss to Louisville.

Only 14% shots from 3 in a 20 point win

7 of 9 Hokies shot 50% or greater from floor tonight too.

Bonus: Kenny and the former Hokies laid an egg against unranked Alabama. Strack went 1 for 13 on the night.

Kenny coaches finesse; his teams can't deal with a physical opponent.

Doesn't matter if it's cake or pie as long as it's chocolate.

Kenny also despises using his bench. I love Duffy's team ball.

Looks like I need to wait until the game is over to watch. Last two times I have watched live we blew late leads with sloppy play, once for the ladies and once for the men. Could not watch for this or LOL and we get upsets. At lease I can enjoy watching this one later today. FAM!

Sometimes we live no particular way but our own

I didn't watch the first half at all, just decided to check in later. Glad I did, as the second half was worth the wait.
