Another solid pickup by James Franklin for a key area of need up front. Morgan has good measurables and a great frame. He isn't nearly as talented, or game ready, as Hilson, who I expect to be a key contributor on day 1.
I did a quick search and watched a few clips (I'll leave the deep dive to French)... At a quick glance you do notice that he has some speed and good angle recognition. He will get "skinny" when he needs to and does use his hands, albeit in a rudimentary kind of way.
He lined up in the 3 & 5 technique primarily on his HS film, likely dependent upon offensive alignment, defensive call and down and distance. On almost every snap he stood straight up before making any other moves. Leaned heavily on his size and speed rather than on technique.
Likely a bit of a project. Maybe the staff plans to use him in an OLB sort of role where he doesn't have his hand in the ground.
I'll do a deeper dive later. But it's great to have another big bodied Edge on the team who can be developed.
The film you looked at may have been from his HS Junior year. Think of the improvement since then? With Hilson, could "Sacksburg" be coming back?

I feel like we've picked up more 4 stars in this recruiting class and transfer class than we've pulled in over the past 6 years combined.
Using the Composite:
2026: 8 from HS, 6 from the portal (so far)
2020-25: 31
So we went from averaging 6+ per to 14+
Wow, I'm surprised we had that many from 2020 to 2025. It felt like we missed on a ton and got maybe one a year. Clearly I'm misremembering things.
It really is crazy how fast things can change. I am sending updates to my non-TKP Hokie friends almost daily it seems, whereas in the prior 15 years we would maybe talk about the offseason once or twice at most.
It's also funny how quickly our expectations can change. I'm starting to get so used to seeing these 4 star and borderline 5 star guys come in, that a high 3 star or low 4 star almost seems disappointing. WTF
Its absolutely nuts. I never thought a turnaround like this would be possible. Granted, we've done nothing on the field, but this is night and day from what we've dealt with for the past decade.
