WBB at Wake Forest Jan 24 at 5 PM NOTE DATE CHANGE

NOTE!! That date is correct. The game has been moved back to Saturday evening from Sunday. Still an ACCNx game. Scott Pryzwanski PxP, Stan Lewter Analyst.

Wake is 12-8, 2-6 in the ACC. The Hokies are now 15-5, 5-3 in the ACC. ESPN Matchup Predictor give the Hokies 83.8% chance to win. Wake is on a five game losing streak. The best two teams they have played in the ACC were losses to Syracuse and NC State; both teams received 4 votes in the last rankings. Their two wins were against Ga Tech and Pitt, who are not very good. Against common opponents, we both lost to Miami, we both beat Radford, we beat Syracuse and Clemson and they lost to both. In general we looked better than Wake against all the common opponents.

Wake is a relative young team; they start 2 freshmen, 2 sophomores and a junior. The next four are a freshman, a sophomore, a junior and a redshirt junior. The last three are a grad student and 2 freshman. No seniors on the team. They will have a slight height advantage in the front court most of the time with 6' 3" junior #14 Mary Carter, 6' 3" freshman #9 Opal Bird, and 6' 1" soph #13 Grace Oliver. Their back court will probably be 5' 8" freshman #0 Milan Brown and 5' 9" soph #2 Aurora Sorbye. The first two off the bench in their last game were 5' 8" freshman #5 Caitlyn Jones and 6' 1" grad #44 Emily Johns. Also playing a few minutes (8 and 3) were 6' 2" soph #15 Kennedy Moore and 6' 1" junior #22 Madisyn Jordan.

Wake shoots 45% overall, 32.8 from three and 65.8 from the line. Only Sorbye shoots over 40% at 40.7 from beyond the arc. The Demon Deacons do make about 6.5 threes per game on 20 attempts. Oliver, (13.6) and Carter (11.8) lead the scoring. No one else is in double digits. They only score 66.3 ppg and allow 59.8; the Hokies score 74.4 and allow 58.3 ppg. On the season they are being outrebounded by 1 rebound per game, which is a little surprising given their front line height; not great for the ACC but should have been a big advantage in the non-con schedule. Only the freshman Bird approaches foul problems with 2.5 per game.

Let's hope the Hokies are not too disorganized because of the schedule change. Wake is a team the Ladies should beat, especially if the rejuvenated Carleigh shows up. Our experience should trump their slight height advantage underneath and our back court should do well against theirs.

LET'S GO HOKIES!

Wake has a lot of size on the perimeter. So far, a lot of cutting and screening like the old flex offense. Their low zone is really causing us some trouble on offense.

Not the start we needed. Facing a team down bad, let them put up 15.

That should have been a foul on Wake not on Carleigh.

Bad foul by Suffren

Playing great defense for like 25 seconds of shot clock but then let them get it to a post player in a 1v1 situation

We are playing great defense. Live officiating has looked okay. We are throwing too many inside shots at the basket and watching them bounce out, but have looked better by more than the score shows. Wake shot better in the first half than they did in warm up. Need one of those two to correct in the second.

Sometimes we live no particular way but our own

We are playing really great defense outside of giving up isolation plays in the paint. Carleigh shouldnt be guarding a forward in the paint ever though.

If it is on TV I am the one with a gray beard in a VT hoodie. Looks like there are six Hokie guys in Hoodies. More Hokies than Deaks, by at least a dozen. That empty....

I resemble that remark!

Great meeting you tonight. Sorry we had to rush. Hope you got home safely. We need to meet up to watch one!

No worries. Great meeting you too. TKP in real life!!

Hokies took 10 more shots than Wake in first half but only led by 1 at halftime. Woof

What are we doing? Finally stretch a lead and now we are fouling on both ends of the floor

Yeah that was a bunny of all bunnies

To be fair, Wenzel was a second late. Petersen had been without anyone else in paint.

How many back door screens to layups have we allowed today? Looks like Rutgers using the Tight End screen against us.

Man, if we can get Swanson going from deep, that would be a huge addition to this team's offensive capabilities

yup.

she can't guard anything so when you need a 3 to get you going, that's great. but she can't be out there more than a couple of minutes at a time.

Girls shot lights out in the second half. FAM

Nice win FAM!

SCHokie

Pretty impressive second half. Turn a one point halftime score into a 28 point win

A Syracuse loss to UNC will move the Hokies into a tie for 4th in the ACC.
