WBB host Pitt Jan 29 at 6 PM

The 15-6, 6-3 Ladies host 8-14, 1-8 Pitt Panthers today at 6 PM. This is an ACCNx broadcast with Jason Patterson PxP and Liz Kitley color. ESPN Matchup Predictor says Hokies 98.7%.

Pitt is obviously not a good team with an overall losing record and only 1 win in ACC play at lowly BC by 3 points. They even lost to in town rival Duquesne by 15 points.

Pitt does have some height in RJr F 6'5" #21 Fatima Diakhate. They also have 6'5" Freshman #10 Angela Le Faou who has only played in 19 games and averages 6.1 min per game. The rest of the probable starting line up includes 6' 1" RJr G #23 Mikayla Johnson, 6' 0" RSoph #13 Lauren Rust, 5' 9" Frehsman G #1 Theresa Hagans Jr, 5' 9" Jr G #8 Carla Viegas.

Only Johnson (12.4) and Hagans (10.5) score in double digits. The team shoots 37.8% overall, 27.6% from three and 74.1% from the line. Only Viegas (37.2%) and Hagans (31.1%) shoot better than 30% from beyond the arc. As a team they average only 12.6 assists to 16.9 turnovers per game.

Should be an easy win for the Ladies and a chance for everyone to play before the schedule gets really tough for the next three games.

LET'S GO HOKIES!

Hokies!

Unfortunately, I have to miss the game in person to attend an HOA meeting.

You have my sympathy, but not just for missing the game.

I got roped into being the HOA Vice President a year or so ago. It is about as lax an HOA as exists. There are only 80 or so properties in the HOA. Our yearly fees are $150 a year and that pays for mowing the common areas, an annual picnic for all HOA members, and some minor maintenance on the horse/walking trails through the neighborhood. We have an architectural board to just make sure houses sizes meet the minimum requirements and the animal barns aren't constructed too near the neighbors.

Having never lived the urban or even suburban life, I can't imagine HOAs as being a thing to consider. Yes, I get it in dense subdivisions to have some minimum standards and people shouldn't buy there if not prepared to follow the rules. I'd chafe as a younger person, but see it coming in my retirement community to come.

The minimum size lots in my HOA are 5 acres. So not really urban or suburban. The number of cows, horses, sheep, goats, chickens, etc. actually outnumber the number of actual residents in our HOA.

Same thing in my mind. Got nothing to do with the pets and livestock, again, in my mind. I live on 1/3 acre now, after living on 15+ for years, but I don't have to ask for permission to build a fence or fly a flag, or plant a tree or paint my house maroon and orange on that little parcel. I'm no libertarian, but some stuff I personally wouldn't abide.

The only restriction on those things in our HOA is no chain link fences within 50' of the property line for "looks". Any of those other things are no permission, no faults. It isn't bad.

Yeah, I understand. I have restrictions coming up in my next move that are far more restrictive than yours, but we'll not own the property per se and the move is about age and future needs. While there will be less freedom, there will be a lot of benefits, no maintenance or homeowners insurance, etc. Luckily we're still in decent shape and we will have family and friends nearby, and frankly, we look forward to not owning and taking care of a home and appliances, etc. Not giving up, just moving on and facing the realities of aging. Independent living in a retirement community that will offer progressive care if needed, and keep you if you run out of money and revert to Medicaid. Should it come to that, though, I'd prefer a bottle of whiskey and a snowbank.

That is part of the reason why I built mom a house next door and arranged her lower floor that could serve as a apartment for live in help if/when that time comes. She is 85 and still doing pretty good physically though her memory is just starting to slip.

We are a childless couple so that option isn't there for us. Glad to hear your mom's doing well, memory notwithstanding. We just figured that we had no kids to leave our money to, and employing home health care can be a dodgy thing in an industry depending on lower paid and immigrant workers when it all goes to hell. Kids can be such a blessing, but I recall how several of my mom's friends moved all over the country, some several times, to be near their kids and grandkids. Mom said none of them were happy with their worlds shrunk down to just family. My mom always said she hated to be around sick people and wouldn't inflict her elder care on we kids, so she got into the Old Soldiers Home in DC for her last years and we never worried about her care.

One of my former co-workers went to the Old Soldiers Home in DC for the last 6 years or so of his life. RIP Paul.

Everybody needs to have a plan and most peoples will be different.

Yep. Nice talking with you.

If Wenzel could finish just a third of her layup attempts she would be a 20 point a game scorer

Letting a bad team hang around is asking for trouble. Need to start making some shots and put this thing out of reach

Nelson sought out that 5th foul on Johnson. That was smart basketball

I feel like the Pitt coach is going to take a tire iron to the refs' vehicles after the game.

Very much Sopranos vibes

UVA at home on Sunday is a must-win if we want to make the NCAA tournament, especially with ND, NC State and the California road trip on the horizon.
