LOLUVA MBB team bounced in first round by Furman

Not remotely paying attention to the Big Dance this year, but schadenfreude in the direction of that school up in Charlottesville never gets old.

So, without further ado: Bahahahahahahahahaha.

Apparently the Hoos haven't won a single NCAA Tournament game since their natty back in 2019. May it ever be so.

Anyone else who would care to forget our own recent basketball troubles to point and laugh at UVA, feel free to join in below.

Didn't Furman already do this once like 3 or 4 years ago? I remember going to my kid's school function the evening after it happened and wearing my FU Furman hat to the function.

Oh jeez, you're right. I saw a highlight of it today on my feed and assumed it was current. They've just barely started this year's tourney.

My bad, guys. Anyone who still wants to point and laugh at UVA for whatever they want to, feel free.

Bro. It's Tuesday. This is way too drunk for Tuesday.

Old sigline: I've been cutting back on the drinking.

New Sigline: lol it's football season.

Is it, though?

But it's St. Patty's Day, so I think this Tuesday gets an exception to too drunk for a Tuesday.

Plan for the worst and hope for the best, not the other way around.

this is why I don't start threads, guys. Something always goes wrong, haha.

At least this time no one's done what Leonard did last time I posted one and told me no one cares...never liked that guy after that.

I needed that shot of schaden-hope, though. I would love for these kinds of performances to become their legacy.

A decade on TKP and it's been time well spent.

BLUF: You're not alone!

I feel this in my soul, Beard. I've had one too many threads be incorrect or outside of CGs even after agonizing over if I should post or not. I just avoid it altogether now 😅

In all the years I have been commenting, I think I can count on one hand how many new threads I have started.

I cannot recall ever starting a thread. Not going to take the chance of running afoul of the CGs and risking the wrath of fellow TKPers

I mean honestly, I'd take "one natty and a bunch of first round embarassments".

Absolutely! That would mean we are making the tournament most years, which is an improvement over where we are now.

Not quite as good as when they got beaten by #16 UMBC when they were #1, but I'd take it. If only it were this year.

I guess this was the first clue:

Someone had an absolutely fantastic St. Patty's day

LEGEND....DARRY.

Also, not the big dance, but very much worth mentioning and relevant, the #1 ranked uva team that lost to the mid-level NAIA Chaminade College in 1982.

Per Wiki:

The 1982 Virginia vs. Chaminade men's basketball game was a college basketball game between the Virginia Cavaliers of the University of Virginia and the Chaminade Silverswords of Chaminade University of Honolulu. The contest was held on December 23, 1982, at the Honolulu International Center in Honolulu, Hawaii. The Silverswords, then a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) member, defeated the Cavaliers, who were the National Collegiate Athletic Association's (NCAA) top-ranked team, 77–72. Chaminade's victory over a Virginia team that included three-time national player of the year Ralph Sampson was called college basketball's "biggest upset" of all time by multiple publications.

Callused perineum is a symptom of being a uva fan

I remember one of the EA NCAA Basketball games in the mid-2000s had moments from classic games you could play. The UVA-Chaminade game got a loooot of run for me.

I think even UVA fans will even admit that they must have sold their souls for that ridiculous 2019 tournament run (which had so many lucky breaks it is hard to keep track although the big one is they didnt have to play a single 1 or 2 seed along the way)

So i can only hope they keep paying for it. I do find it funny that they havent won a game since then but that is not likely to continue this year.
Also still crazy to think that a tony Bennett team missed the dance entirely in 2022

I admit, I was thrown as I thought it hadn't started yet. Glad to know I haven't lost all my marbles.

I was in the midst of texting my UVA grad cousins and then double checked.... glad I didn't hit send.

You will see this game, this upset and this sign next on ESPN Sportscenter. Virginia Tech 31 Miami 7

His decision was made after a phone call with longtime Virginia Tech assistant coach Bud Foster. All Foster told him was, "We win. They don't."

LOLUVA MBB Team Bounced in SECOND Round by TENNESSEE

Not quite as fun, but still always good to see.

Part of me wanted them to win and get absolutely boat raced by Iowa St. _ wow do they look legit.

The enemy of my enemy is my friend. But it still feels gross.

Agreed. I generally root for UVA against UT. I know that sounds horrible, but my journey has been long and arduous.

When I saw the final score....

I feel your pain, but I'm the opposite. I generally root for UT against UVA. My grandfather was a big UT fan, but he was realistic about it. He did not have orange colored glasses at all. He always said Tennessee could grasp defeat from the jaws of victory like nobody else.

UT fans can be real jerks and cocky asshats to other fans sometimes, but they aren't stuck up, pretentious douche canoes. They don't pretend to go to a "public" Ivy. They have the history and the championships to back it up. UVA just pretends they matter in the state of Virginia.

Just remember that Tech is now ranked higher than LOLUVA in several academic polls and rankings.

We were always ranked higher in eng

Danny is always open

You should look at UT's rankings if you really want to feel better about yourself.

But you shouldn't have to.

- Your grandfather must not have watched WVU football or basketball in the 80s and 90s 🤣

Is it just my kids leaving me sleep deprived or have we never talked about you live where I grew up? Its not that big if a town.

I think we discussed it a couple years ago when we figured out we both knew Liam. I grew up in Ronceverte, lived in Blacksburg and Roanoke with no plans of coming back to WV but ended up having to come back here for a job. Lived in Fairmont for about 8 years and moved to Bridgeport when my oldest started school. October will make 14 years we've lived in Bridgeport.

Yeah moving for the schools was probably a solid move, I dont think Fairmont is what it once was

It is. Ugh
