Wow that really puts a damper on the festivities! Most of the lots near the stadium were cleared out 7 or so years ago and we'd normally snag a couple spots in Lots 1 or 2 starting at 8-9 am.

I'll be there with my family and our son's best friend's family. In-laws just moved to the Burg so we'll be staying/parking there and walking to the game. Looking forward to showing our friends around our old stomping grounds
I expect the game to be pretty vanilla (as they always are) and I don't think anyone will take much away from it
I haven't thought about VT football in a couple months - I think we have a tougher schedule this year than years past but I'm hopeful that JMFF will be able to eke out 7+ wins in year 1. I doubt very seriously if we'll see any indicators of whether or not we're on pace for that target during the spring game. We shall see.

Question for the folks more familiar with 81 these days....Is Google Maps messing with me?
Coming from Richmond, I usually have the option of the interstate route (west on 64, south on 81), or the "back roads" route (360 and 460).
Normally Google defaults to the interstate route, but right now, it's defaulting to the "back roads" route. And the interstate route has a detour built in adding at least an extra half hour -- SB 81 to Lexington, get on WB 64 to Rt. 220 and take that back to 81, getting back on at exit 150.
When I reverse the directions to come home, it doesn't even recommend the interstate route.
I know they're running a bunch of work zones to widen the interstate, but I didn't think that part of 81 was fubar.

I just drove that not long ago and it was fine. My only guess is maybe there was an accident when you tested it and it built in the detour to avoid accident traffic. Other than that, I don't have any other info.
I just ran Google maps from my dad's house in Mechanicsville to my house in Roanoke and it defaulted to the back road, but when I selected the 64/81 route, I saw no stoppages or detours and the total time was right at 3 hours like it should be.

I also thought maybe it was an accident tripping it up, but when I changed the depart times, it still gave the detour. When I checked it this morning before leaving, it still added that detour, so I don't know what the Google gremlin was smoking.
I ended up going down via the interstate route with no detours, and I didn't have any problems in that stretch -- other than the usual folks who don't know how to drive around the trucks.

That must've been like 20 minutes up there. He's gonna have to get checked out at the hospital for blood clots I'm guessing unless he had a strap or something on the screen to step on/in and prevent circulation cut off from the harness. I've never skydived, but if it's like a fall protection harness the rule of thumb is to rescue in 10 minutes to prevent damage.

Long post, but as someone who's lived in Blacksburg since graduating in the early 2000s, been to all sorts of games, and loves VT Athletics, the TL:DR version is that anyone associated with the athletics department needs to be on a PiP and fired if they cannot be better.
Franklin may own on field production, but every customer experience aspects between football, basketball or major sports is beyond bad. The experiences at basketball games, concessions, etc are all so bad even UVa fans made fun of us
Today, gates were closed, there was zero consideration for the crowd, kids, etc. The line for ice cream was over an hour long.
I can't say where where to start, but a culture that holds every leadership employee accountable for the customer experience and fan happiness, regardless of on field or on court performance would be a hell of a start.
I cannot justify a penny going to a for-profit business that continues to put a product out that is this bad. Not a reflect on on field results at all, just the product that we are all being sold.
In a private company without the safety of a state institution, the purge would be swift.

I think most fans want a better on the field product first and foremost. And I think that given the unpredictable future of sport and the change landscape, focusing on the field/talent acquisition is most important
Related to above... to pay for talent (coaching, players, etc) leadership is forced to pursue whale donors. Those whales ain't waiting in line for ice cream
I just don't think any of what you experienced is due to the public nature of the enterprise. I think it's due to limited funds and other priorities.

Any kind of recap (other than the sky diver) from anyone that saw the game? I just went over the stats and the drive summaries and its really hard for me to take away much other than our kicking game should be fine.

Luke Reynolds went off, and the tight ends overall had a very productive day, 16 catches for 190 yards I believe. Javion Hilson is incredibly explosive off the edge, and honestly the overall talent has increased so much, I'm really excited about the James Franklin era.

Won't be able to make it. I assume this will be a radio broadcast only with nothing being televised?
Headed to the burg. How does parking work these days at spring game?

In my experience, people start tailgating in those lots before noon as they are pretty much empty already.
Thanks
Here's an update via VT

It is going to be interesting, I am supposed to be at a wedding in the Hahn Gardens at 3...
"supposed to be"
LETS GO!!!
HOKIES!!!
Sadly won't be able to make it - kids soccer games and birthday parties
I'll be there with my family and our son's best friend's family. In-laws just moved to the Burg so we'll be staying/parking there and walking to the game. Looking forward to showing our friends around our old stomping grounds

Are we favored to win?
My money is on the team with the helmets and pads
Will be there. My first Spring Game ever. Very excited.
Of course the one spring time wedding I have to attend is this weekend......
#banfallweddings #banspringweddings
There are now two narrow nuptial windows after bowl season and before week 0
Just do #weddingwednesday
Hopefully you aren't having to deal with the chaos of my spring wedding is in the garden next to the game at 3:30.
Yeah, Lot 5. My daughter is bringing about 10 friends at VT for hot dogs at a tailgate.
Nicely done, raising your daughter to not expect bougie food at a tailgate. ;^)
https://maps.apple/p/JrCiE_1tAxRBIf
At the top of Chicken Hill in the grass. Still some parking spots.
Bringing the entire fam and my new daughter in law, married my son in June this year. Everyone is excited!
the best thing about a new daughter in law is that you can tell your dad jokes to some of that hasn't heard you tell them all before!
And she has to listen to your jokes all the way through and then smile and chuckle politely, too.
nope, shes not a keeper with put the groans and telling me it was bad, it had higher standards for my family
to be fair, they are bad jokes to fit the category though, right?
They a great jokes that fit unto the catagory
Hoping to get there early enough to park on Chicken Hill. Fingers crossed.
Catching our flight tomorrow. Gonna be hotter in Blacksburg than at home in FL.
I think we're meeting friends in Lot 8.

Any word on the paratrooper stuck on the scoreboard?
Pulled him down a few minutes ago. Maybe a good omen for the season?

So that's how we pay for the new video board!
Couldn't listen. Who won?
Seasonal Alcoholism
Seasonal?
Summer, fall, winter, spring, they make beers for all 4 seasons
Yeah, they do, but I don't care at all. I'm pretty much an any beer, any season kinda guy, myself.

I'd estimate attendance at 40,000+
Meanwhile at Wahoowa after their best season in decades....
Soft
We had more people hang from our scoreboard than they had in the stands.
The attendance was the family of players who couldn't find a good excuse to cut.
Mid-season form?
